Frustrated that your drawings keep reverting back to having some sort of cartoon-vibe about them? Wondering why you can't capture more of a sense of realism? If this video is correct for you, it will set you up with the understanding to finally break free from cartoonland and launch into the more realistic style you hope for. Not to be missed.

Dear Stephen, I have been following your videos for about a year now. I probably watched 50 of your videos, perhaps more. This is the first time I'm commenting. You are one of the best explainers of the art craft I've seen. You are basically advocating the same thing in most of your videos: "draw the effect -- not the symbol" but you do it so well, so consistently, in so many angles that anyone who follows you should get the message sooner or later. I'm also grateful to you for encouraging me to kick the pencil-eraser habit to the extent I don't even carry a pencil or eraser with me anymore. It's a great liberating strategy that I owe to you. Keep up the good work. May you live long in peace and good health.

From my point of view it would be extremely helpful if you visualize your main points in form of a short summary and divide your videos into chapters. At the end of your always long explanations I often try to resume what you said at the beginning. This would strengthen the effect of your content.

This is really helpful. But to apply this tips, I need to unlearn many of my practices. It will be a difficult process, but I think that it will make me better. Thanks for such practical tips.

Very interesting, Stephen. Am curious, in your journey from oils to Copics did you ever try a dip pen? With all the the various nibs available they apparently can produce quite a variety of lines. Perhaps you'd find them particularly useful in capturing your "effects?" In any case thanks for the video. Provides much to think about.
