if they fuck this up funcom will die as a company

I think some folks just get burnt out on some game developers, where one bad experience sometimes scorches the earth. (I am no exception with Turbine/SSG!) but I think it's good to remind folks that growth is possible and it's okay to be slightly optimistic.

Anarchy Online was one of my favorite MMO. I think it may have been the first I ever played. I loved it. I can't get too heavily into it now though, because i've gotten so used to action games that I hate turn-based games now. I only played them growing up because I didn't have a choice. I still think it is fun and I like the story and everything, but i've been really hoping for an action version of it. I haven't played most of their other games (just Conan and Secret World. I like both), but from looking online it seems like Anarchy Online would be the closest to it in regards to theme, so i'm looking forward to it. Though I learned that in Dune they hate AI, so I guess I won't be able to create a character with robot "pets", which sucks, because I like to go the engineer (robotic) route in games since I love robots. But the Dragonfly robot is at least something.

I think it's important to note the wider context around Conan Exiles - Funcom were effectively forced to release CE in Early Access before it was ready, otherwise they would have gone bankrupt. Since then they have stayed with the game to try build it into what they wanted. Also, at that time Discord did not exist as a community platform, so they missed that opportunity to have a solid channel of communication between themselves and their community. From what I've seen, they have made mistakes with CE and honestly there's a very vocal section of the playerbase that hate every single update, but any studio will get that. For D:A the situation is completely different, they are now owned by Tencent (for better or worse) which has not imposed arbritrary external deadlines, but given them plenty of time and resources to make a solid game, and they've built it from the ground up, not just "reskinning" the Conan Engine. As for the lack of gameplay - it's simply not ready yet 😅 There has been a lot of active development they have told us about on the official discord (strongly recommend joining that!), like the melee combat is undergoing major changes apparently. Also fwiw those screenshots looked like some of the very early press material they released from the early alpha over a year ago - there's been a lot more shown in the last few weeks (enough to build an early community wiki)

I’ve been playing Conan exiles since game preview and I can say it’s really come a long way. The biggest issue with Conan I personally have is how bad the monetization is. Not only is it fomo but it’s basically pay to win. you don’t just unlock transmog armor in the battle pass/paid dlc’s. It’s actual gear that has better stats than the early base game armor. So if you just pay a little extra money you will have an advantage over someone who just plays the base game without buying anything. But to be fair it doesn’t really matter in the long run because the only way that would effect you gameplay wise is if you’re playing pvp but even then most people who play pvp know what they’re doing and just wipe noobs before they can build up. It’s the principle of the thing I guess is what I have an issue with. Anyway, to end this rant I’ll just say Conan exiles is my favorite survival game and it has a lot of great and amazing elements as well. Combat feels good and they recently added finishers. You can make some really amazing builds but you have to pay for the best looking sets. However, I believe the best part of conan is the dungeons. I’ve never played another survival game with dungeons like Conan’s. They definitely set the game apart from others.

Conan exiles is a great game. My favorite survival game. Personally never had any bugs that I remember. I also didn’t play it right at launch tho.

it's not just about making money. They have to run the servers which is difficult and not cheap.

They have experience with MMO cause ppl forget about Secret World which was and still is amazing as a dark story telling themed mmo with in depth systems and their crafting was and still is different compared only to something like Minecraft where it has to be placed in specific pattern to make that item .. their puzzle solving is still the top of line to me as you had to use in game PC system to decifer hieroglyphics and russian or morse code unless you already know those things to figure out how to solve your quest. So go play Secret World for like a month then yall can see how if they do dune like they did SW and Conan then it'll be fire

Actually, it is Age of Conan not Conan exiles that is the biggest issue, they put out age of conan and it was buggy and incomplete then rushed out and expansion and said a big crafting and bug fix update was coming and almost done just to find out the crafting update was not even started. They drop the dev team down to 2 people and walked away. This is what Funcom does. They lie straight to the customers trying to get a money grab on the expansion then laugh and leave.

When I saw the title of this video I thought," clearly has not played conan exiles". 40 seconds in can confirm. But if your expecting the game to launch in a barely playable state, lacking structure for the core gameplay and feature updates that offer more ways to buy in game cosmetics than fixes to game breaking bugs? Then no worries, thats what your likely going to get.

What game developers need to stop doing is releasing games in alpha and beta. That’s where the majority of shit talking come from and gets transferred. I understand they do this to come up with funding…. But it’s literally destroying the gaming industry and developers end up getting g discouraged. Way easier for the game industry to release Microsoft xox or PlayStation games as they get funding from the console developers as well

Funcom is notorious for bad launch's, my first MMO ever was Anarchy Online and it was one of the most complex and fun MMO's of all time. But they botched the launch and the game never recovered, but it was an Amazing MMO.

I dont know anything about the developer- but of course you should be worried. MMO's are very hard to make. Most MMO's fail. If you have high expectations for the game you should be worried.

Conan exiles can be played in full without buying the battle pass or any DLC its all just cosmetic stuff

like i said in one of your prior videos , there are videos of youtubers who were invited to an event to see actual gameplay and in their videos they showed some screen shots of actual gameplay and user interface in different instances with explanations of gameplay. I even posted a link to one to correct you on your mis information on the different classes. As for your desire to play conan to get a comparison i think thats a really bad idea as they will be nothing alike. Dont do it.

Hi I play Conan Exiles a few times per week and a couple hours at a time, over 2000 hours into the game. The game is broken fallling through floors into water if base over it, stuck in the foundations you place when building. The new chapter 4 brought some visual enhancements that the servers being 10 years old do not handle well. The new purge system and better visuals cause servers on official to crash when they are done. There are more but this is an idea of Funcom problems. Yes I will not buy Dune Awakening till I see the reviews and comments being left, thanks for the videos.

iv played alot of conan, like alot. Iv seen people meshing into our base at one point, we had multiple people record and submit it and not one person in the clan doing it got banned. this happens over and over and over, people quit because funcom doesnt support their community. They act so late that the damage is done and people lose bases and time , and they just move on. Seen it actually a wild amount of times. Played since launch both on PS and PC. Iv got screenshots from chinese players UI's using literal cheats, speedhacking, people opening locked vaults bypassing the codes, them taking stuff doesnt show in your logs. people hitbox dragging you. its actually insane how no one mentions this in their discord. The chinese ALWAYS cheat, because in their culture cheating isnt bad they do anything to get ahead. and anyway they always come back and blatantly cheat/ruin servers and i promise you Dune will be no different. all these people deluding themselves is hilarious.

I hope they constantly deal with game breaking glitches. Because in conan they didn’t patch under meshing for years, and what’s crazier is that when something got patched the patch itself brought new gamebreaking glitches, many times wannabe alpha clans would abuse many of these said glitches. It was very interesting though because our clan would still win, during covid coincidently I met and became part of an undefeated clan in my first conan server and as I learned from them and went to war all day everyday as a clan with them I learned that they were undefeated for a reason and that reason is that the clan worked as a machine with hierarchy of skill and all the original members were trained in the basics of combat by the leader of the clan who was said to be able to 1 vs 10, we could even raid under mesh bases because two of our members who were the extreme farmers of the group had to learn how to go inside meshes to counter all would be abusers of under meshing, so even if dune awakening has problems with glitches and abusers of glitches my clan is coming back far stronger than ever with all our experience from conan and every other game we played since covid and before that. If anyone has problems against glitch abusers in dune just get yourself a clan who works as a machine with hierarchy of skill and follow the hierarchy of skill or if not your clan will always have infighting about what should be done. And any of you who don’t know how high the stakes are in a funcom survival game I promise the stakes will be around 10 times higher than in conan, if you don’t have a clan or alliance you will never be able to win against alpha clans if you are average joes. Those who are not prepared or go into servers solo will be in for a rude awakening😈💀 lucky for you dune will probably have personal servers where the stakes are extremely low and it’s not fun at all, all you could do there is practice against brain dead npcs and build creatively without resources if you want, but where the true glory will be had is in official pvp servers the cream of the crop experience will be on the pvp servers.

Videogames in capitalist societies will always need to make profit and thus always will be limited to exactly what makes the investers think will make money. it is a shame. you can see that for example in the fact that most of the really cool games come from the ideas of modders that work outside of profit logic. it is a strong argument against those, who believe good ideas only happen in competition. and even competition ist just another way of cooperation. so what am i tying to say? :D abolish capitalism and lets create a democratic, new form of economy, which functions within the limits of planetary and human boundaries while also not producing obscene wealth on the one side and extreme poverty on the other side. In the end this will also get you better video games. Because an economy based on human needs - and not based on the need to make profit - is possible :)

I'm sorry but you didn't do any homework. You are under the strange impression that Age of Conan was only bad at launch. No. It has problems for years. Anarchy Online...was damn near unplayable at launch and again took many years of development to get it to where it is now. Secret World didn't have too bad of a launch but the developers decided to turn it into a free to play model and actually gutted the game so significantly they released a "new" version (SWL) of it under the F2P model and it's nothing like the original game. Funcom doesn't have a clear...direction with their games. Conan Exiles is a good example of this. And yes...when a game is released the developers tend to have a idea for their game going forwards. And yes, that idea can...and does (literally always) change. But that change...is often because the original development team built a game and were assigned to work on another game. And new developers are brought in to "maintain" the previous game. And they have a new idea or new direction for "their" game. And for some reason...every single time this happens (I'm not referencing only funcom here) none of the new developers ever speak to the old developers or whomever to get any level of a idea on what direction the game was originally going toward. The first couple of minutes of this video suggests....simply...the longer a game exists the better it is. Well...duh. But using this logic, which is the foundation of your video, Dune Awakening...will have a terrible launch...but be better in four or more years. Again...duh.
