There are so many reasons to adopt a whole food vegan diet before, during, and after pregnancy!
🌱 VEGAN BENEFITS
• pre-eclampsia, breast milk, environmental contaminants www.pcrm.org/health/diets/veg...
• type 1 diabetes www.pcrm.org/health/medNews/m...
• morning sickness nutritionfacts.org/video/morn...
👭 MOMMY SOLIDARITY
Dairy cows are exploited as mothers
• they are forcefully impregnated, and their young are most often stolen from them at birth -- cows can only produce milk after having a baby, and dairy farmers keep them pregnant in order to keep the milk coming.
• of course, the calves are the ones who are supposed to drink the milk, so they have to be separated from their mothers at birth so as to not drink the profit. males often end up in the cruel veal industry, while females suffer the same fate as their mothers.
• Once a female cow is “spent”, or no longer able to produce milk she will most likely end up in a slaughter house. 20% of beef in the US comes from dairy cows www.agweb.com/article/dairy-c... (beef industry website)
speaking of dairy cows….
🐮 DAIRY

I have a 13 year old and when I was pregnant with her, I experienced severe morning sickness. I also was a meat eater. After giving birth I had problems with fibroids and endometriosis. My doctors advised me I may never have kids again. After having fibroid removal surgery in 2011 and doing a lot of research, I decided to go vegan. Years later I never had any fibroids grow back and had my endometriosis under control. Through the grace of God I’m pregnant with my second child and it’s a whole new experience! No morning sickness at all. Feeling blessed. Thanks for sharing ❤️ Loving your videos.

It's not a vegan thing..most women experience severe morning sickness for first pregnancy and absolutely no sickness on the second. Like me. I not a vegan. I had severe morning sickness first child and no morning sickness second child. No diet switch whatsoever. Just did what I always did.

I went vegan when pregnant with my son (that was 6 years ago). I had way more energy once I cut out the animal foods, zero morning sickness, and did tons of walking until our homebirth. In terms of milk supply, I wanted my body to focus on producing milk, not breaking down hard-to-process meat or dairy. I had a magical homebirth, and made enough milk to feed my boy and donate. Thank you for what you do Jenné, and for sharing, because we are all learning.

My vegan pregnancy was wonderful. I have two older children I need to keep up with and I was able to ride my bike until I was 32 weeks,we went swimming all summer and I had energy to walk everywhere else as we don't own a car. I lost so much weight as I was not vegan prior to but vegetarian. The baby was very adamant about no dairy. I never vomited with my other children this baby wouldn't allow me to keep anything but a vegan diet down. I am grateful as it renewed my love of cooking. During my healing journey to get pregnant before my 35 birthday I learned a lot about nutrition because I didn't want anymore synthetic products in my body.

I have been vegan for over 20 years and had a vegan pregnancy about 19 years ago. My baby thrived! She has barely ever needed to go to the doctor and still thrives today. When I was pregnant a pediatric practice told me they didn’t want me as one of their customers - my offense was asking them how they would feel if I opted not to feed my baby cow’s milk! At the time I had not yet decided, but just the mere fact I asked was enough for them to kick me out! Raising my daughter vegan has been great and I hope she will do the same when she becomes a mother one day ;)

I ate loads of cheese growing up and one of my favorite snacks was chocolate milk. My breasts started coming in the fourth grade and I also started my period that year! Talk about EARLY! Come to find out, I have severe endometriosis as well as other reproductive issues. I went plant based just shy of three years ago and have noticed quite a change.

@@yayan281 Nutrition has a bearing on your health but it's not going to make you hit puberty 5 years earlier than you would have otherwise or anything that dramatic and instantaneous. Also, the original comment insinuates that it's weird to start puberty in 4th grade. It's not. I started when I was 9. And while my breasts developed early, they only grew minimally. The hormones in dairy were strong enough to start my puberty early but not enough to grow my breasts above half an A cup? I doubt that. Some people start puberty younger, some start older. None of it is weird, and drinking milk to expedite puberty or the growth of associated secondary sex characteristics is a myth. I'm sure that OP did see an improvement in her overall health after cutting processed animal products, but it wouldn't have prevented her from hitting puberty at the time her body was meant to.

I was a complete wreck 3 years ago when I was going vegetarian, found out we were expecting, and started craving meat. From week 6 to 16 I had awful morning sickness. All I could keep down was crackers, water and the broth boiled off from beef that I half cooked 😷 Later on I craved spinach, green smoothies and fruit, broccoli, ice cream, pizza and meat, usually all at once and in that order lol....thankfully my daughter has been plant based since birth, and I got hubby to go vegan too. I'm retraining myself again. I just keep falling off, mainly due to laziness. Much love and well wishes from Grenada ❤💚💛

Congrats on your pregnancy. You look amazing and you're glowing. You brought up a lot of good points about hormones in meat and dairy which is why I'm converting from the standard American diet to plant based. As a mother myself I'm appalled by what I learned about the dairy industry. Dairy wasn't hard for me to give up first. I've always felt sick after eating dairy products, now I know why. I'm going through menopause and since going vegan its been a lot easier to deal with the symptoms. I sleep better, I have more energy and fewer hot flashes. I'm convinced its because of not eating animal products and their hormones which is why I researched veganism in the first place. So even though you're on the other end of the life cycle, you're definitely on the right track. Thanks for sharing your pregnancy experience.

When I was pregnant with my first child, I literally was repulsed by meat. It all smelled like it was raw and rotten! I ate vegetarian during that time. He's 7 now, and he is very healthy. Same with my second pregnancy! I didn't even know what a vegan was during that time. Now we eat a fairly balanced plant based diet, but I wonder how much less stressed I would have been if I had known how to eat during that time.

It helped my mental health. My body struggles to absorb nutrients, but switching to WFPB helped so much with that. I was able to get off my antidepressants and manage my depression through food, better quality/types of supplements, and exercise. Not to say all people can. I know some people genuinely need to be medicated. But for my issues, namely the fact that I struggled to absorb vitamins that helped in producing dopamine and serotonin, going vegan did help. Plus I feel much better in general, have more energy, and am able to appreciate food, nature, conservation, and other things more now, too, all of which helped with my mental health.

Even though I haven't had a baby and I'm not pregnant, this information is so important because I have a big family and food has been an issue with mental state, health and understanding how to change. I've watched the health state of my siblings and I am understanding more and more about them and of course myself. My mother and father also had me observing and questioning why things were happening and as I grow as an adult this woke me up. I understand through food on a level to why behaviours/mental and physical change is controlled. Thank you for helping me look further past meat and to now make my mind up to cut fish out for good. I want healthy future children and their future children to live a better life with a positive and less troublesome start.

I was vegan and got pregnant and I stayed vegan until maybe the 6 month mark. I then developed preeclampsia and had a c section and my serum albumin levels were so low they were deficient. I was anemic too ( despite no dairy) I had to stop as I was craving animal protein foods. I have chronic fatigue syndrome so that may have been a part of my not tolerating a vegan diet . I also cant eat a tonne of carbs as I developed type 2 diabetes and reducing the carb portions I got rid of it. I am trying to get pregnant again at 35 and I may just cut out meat and dairy to see if it boosts my fertility (irregular periods and late ovulation issues) I also need to reduce my stress.

Been vegan for 7 years or so and I have been thinking of incorporating them because morning sickness is making it extremely difficult to eat the large amounts of foods I normally eat to get my calories and nutrients in. I am also having food aversions to so many of the foods I used to love.

Gratefully him and spirit have been giving us help to clean up our toxic bodies. I have been drinking his Heavy Metal Detox smoothie for 7 months. And will continue for as long as I am guided. His Liver Rescue book just came out and the information is life changing. Even if someone thinks they aren’t ill , they are. We all have toxic bodies from our environment, and passed down from generations to generations. He also has some info about babies being born with toxic livers. Much love for your continued healthy pregnancy! I wish I could do it again with all this new information out. 💚

I am not planning to get pregnant in the next years, but your video is very good, you did a great job with the research! Very interesting point from my personal life, while my mom was pregnant with me, she hated meat and dairy products. For me as a child, it was a punishment to eat meat, all I wanted was vegetables.. i started cooking for myself very early, so I didn’t have to eat all that meat with my family. While pregnant with my younger brother, my mom used to eat a lot more meat and milk, and my brother is never „craving veggies“ like I do, but always meat and a minimum of 0.5 to 1 litre of milk per day 🙈

This video is encouraging because 1. You're intelligent and researched in the information you pass on. 2. You're black! Representation Matters 3. You're a woman! Representation Matters! 3. You're natural! Representation matters! 4. You're vegan! Question are you gluten free as well? I'm 5 weeks pregnant with my 4th child and about 3 months ago I didn't shake my high blood pressure after having my 3rd baby so I started the Daniel Fast for 3 weeks. Which has led me to trying a vegan lifestyle during my pregnancy and beyond

Good on you for making this video. When I was pregnant, I so wanted to switch to a vegan diet. I didn’t because my mother and then-partner were nervous about it, and I let them talk me out of it. I’ve always regretted that, even though I thankfully had a healthy pregnancy anyway.

I love you. You are what planted the seed for me going vegan ( vegan for 2 years now) and I have always loved your words of wisdom and compassion. I just found out today that I’m about 5-6 weeks pregnant and I remember watching your videos while you were pregnant and this has given me so much inspiration that I can confidently be fully vegan while pregnant and also how much more beneficial it is for me and baby. I just love you and want to thank you for making these videos. You are a blessing to this world. 🥺❤️

great info! I've always thought about this but never did the research... Another thing I've thought about is how to raise kids in a non-vegan world? I know it's a process, but how can we educate them with knowledge (they don't understand certain things while they're toddlers or kids) and compassion?

Your points of passing issues on to the unborn child are serious key points. If a pregnant woman doesn’t do it for herself, she should do it for her unborn baby. After all, a baby starts it’s life being a vegetarian, so to speak, with breast milk. It’s what we choose to feed them as they grow turns them into vegan, vegetarian, or omnivores. Why not start out healthy?! 😁👍🏻👍🏻

My midwife used to constantly encourage me to eat fish 😓 I also was anemic (not vegan) and no one recommended I reduce or stop dairy intake. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Even though I also knew calcium inhibits iron absorption. Diet really is so crucial.

A healthy vegan diet consist of mostly whole plant foods like beans, nuts, grains, fruits , and vegetables. Processed vegan foods should be used in moderation, not as the focus of our diet.

@@loureddish5783 I understand that. I was just wondering what research she has done on the risks of eating them. Also, imitation meats and cheese taste horrible. I havent found a good brand and they also give me belly discomfort and gas.

I’d be interested in finding research on imitation meats as well. When I do use them, I get the ones that have ingredients I recognize. If they have something in them that I’m not familiar with I barely eat them. It’s always safer to keep our diet as natural as possible if good health is our concern. I do love me some miyokos cheese though 😁 It’s vegan and it’s made out of cashews. ...it doesn’t have that fake cheese taste like most vegan cheeses.

I am a vegan and I gained 35 pounds while pregnant and lost ALL of it immediately after birth. Always had excellent blood pressure and iron levels. Still had morning/(all day) sickness tho. But in the beginning of my pregnancies I always craved fruits and water rich foods then in the middle and later on craved beans and veggie burritos and avocados (healthy fats!) I contribute veganisim to the reason I looked instantly like I never had a baby right after birth and beyond. :)

I became fully vegan a year ago after 6 years of being vegetarian and my life has completely changed in all aspects. I’m 8 and a half weeks pregnant and the worst I’ve had is food aversions and ocasional nausea, which went away after starting my prenatal (garden of life my kind organics vegan prenatal) Also my blood work came back perfect! No deficiencies or irregularities. There’s really no better way to carry a baby or live life in general🙏🏻

This is my second pregnancy, first vegan pregnancy (first one was veggie), and so far I have no morning sickness 🤙🏻, however, I didn’t the first time either ☺️ So far, I’m mostly struggling with cravings, like I did with my first. I’m craving roast chicken, which is horrifying to me. My husband assures me that it’s an herb thing, possibly also a texture thing (again, horrifying to me) and is working on dinners that satisfy that. He’s so sweet ❤️ I’m scared about once this babe is born. I had an absolutely heartbreaking experience with breastfeeding the first time around. I didn’t have enough milk and never found the magic equation that equaled upping my supply. That plus extreme pp anxiety and depression led to going to full formula and months and months of grieving what I’d imagined being a wonderful breastfeeding bond. Of course, of COURSE, fed is best, and everyone’s journey is their own and my now 6 year old daughter is perfect and healthy and all of the stupid formula-baby myths and, even worse, judge mental “warnings” were absolutely false. The reason I’m scared is that, I went vegan when my daughter was 1 and so she had dairy-based formula. This time around, I would absolutely not do that. Instead, I would do soy or amino acid-based formula. The problem is that here in Denmark, we have very few options available. I’m worried about the cost, the hassle, and what I don’t doubt will be coming my way- the opinions. Oh the opinions about soy. I have yet to find a nutritionally educated doctor here and know that I’m going to get an earful if we do end up having to formula feed. When you’re postpartum, you’re so vulnerable emotionally and mentally that it’s really easy to doubt basically everything you know. So, ya. I’m scared of what’s coming.

There are pregnancy apps and books that recommend full fat dairy! Also I have seen commercials from Hormel lunchmeat claiming it is safe for pregnant women to eat! Also the pregnancy app I have on my phone completely recommends bacon for pregnant women! Can you believe all the misinformation? Thank you again for the video!
