Whether you want to publish your book on Amazon KDP, query agents to get signed by an independent or Big Six Publisher like Penguin or MacMillan, or read your book to strangers at the bus stop, you might want to run it past a beta reader first.
Beta readers are people who read advanced copies of your book and check for things like plot holes, marketability and whether or not your book has too many depictions of homeless orgies. And while it's tempting to use friends or family, in this video I'll show you that the best people to be beta readers are actually prisoners.
Prisoners will be brutally honest about work and even though you, as an aspiring writer who thinks you're the best thing since sliced bread, will want to lash out at them for criticizing you, a quick look at their rap sheet will make you think twice. Which is good because beta readers are here to make your work better.
