Thank you for this verbal smack. I probably need to watch this once a month to stop me from continually switching what I use. I have acne prone skin with large pores and post-acne hyperpigmentation. I can't seem to stop myself from trying out recommendations from skincare "experts" even though logically I know there is no magic bullet and being consistent will benefit my skin far more than product hopping.

I’ve struggled all my life with very difficult skin. Just recently I’ve kept to the same routine with the same products and my skin was the best it had been for years. Then I ran out of my main product and used something else for a couple of days and BOOM, major break outs all over. Arghhhh! Luckily, I found some more of my fav stuff and I’m hoping to get back to calm skin again very soon!

I fit that description perfectly :) I laughed listening to you knowing I've done exactly that. I've never had problem skin - I have combination 65 year old skin that has almost never given me trouble. Of course the usual too much sebum on my nose and chin leading to enlarged pores but generally my skin is pretty good. Even my MD recently commented on how "lovely" my skin is when he was removing (freezing off - which doesn't work that great by the way) skin tags on my neck and decolletage. BUT now I do have "sensitivity" on my lower checks. It started off with an unfamiliar "roughness", which progressed to a slight redness and burning. I've stopped everything! I had been using retinol but only a couple of times a week in the evening, and Vit C in the AM under my sun screen. I have no idea what's caused the problem - my cleanser is very mild (oil first then a mild non foaming gel cleaner). Maybe more exfoliating (chemical) than usual but this issue is focused specifically on my lower cheeks and no where else. I suspect STRONGLY it's the Vit C because I've been using a powder mixed with my toner and Reversetrol and ferulic mixed with it but somehow it FEELS like Vit is the culprit. The problem is that acting like a product magpie hasn't helped at all! I have to do a shout out here to Aloe Vera by the way. I developed a rash on my armpits (caused by shaving using a shampoo as a shaving cream - SILLY I know!) and the ONLY thing I could put on them was Aloe Vera gel mixed with a bit of lactic acid (to eat the odour) and its' working like a charm. Actually this has become my new favourite deoderant :)

So true.. I have very sensitive skin with mild acne like redness in cheek area and a lot of hormonal breakouts. I use differin gel 3 times a week, azelaic acid 3 times a week both with Niacinamide. And 5% mandelic acid toner once a week. This regimen took me 4 months to come to. After starting with azelaic acid only In the beginning. Slow and steady wins the race with sensitive skin.

Same! I only exfoliate once a week (ordinary 10% lactic acid) and I feel like even that is too much for my skin. Gonna try mandelic acid before moving on to a PHA, but if none of those work, I might just stop exfoliating altogether and rely solely on my retinol.
@91msag
@91msag 4 жыл бұрын
Strangely enough the Drunk Elephant's Sukari Babyfacial (same percentages are the ordinary's peeling solution) suited me way back when, and that too was once a week only. Dunno why my skin hates the ordinary's lactic acid. May just be that particular product's formulation? Dunno.

I stopped exfoliating altogether, due to an unfortunate experience: I have been on tretinoin for 7 months when I decided to put on an AHa cream ( Neostrata) at night on my day off from tret. I got a really bad burn from just that 1 incident, which really destroyed my skin for about 2 months- red, bumpy irritated hot mess! I ended up at the derm's office, where I was put on cicabalm and a steroid cream to repair my skin. Never again!! Do not push your skin, I have learned my lesson! Cleanser, vit c, moisturizer, tretinoin and sunscreen...that is all I will ever be using.
@91msag
@91msag 3 жыл бұрын
@@agnesjuhasz7715 great advice! Yes I agree, if you think your skin really can't handle it, then exfoliating should be chucked out of one's routine altogether. I haven't exfoliated in a while either and I feel my skin is finally recovering. I'm still blemish prone, but my maskne (and probably irritation from the weekly granactive retinoid that I also stopped since then) has gone. I'll try exfoliating with PHA or a Mandelic acid if I feel my skin is ready later, but for now it's not as bad as before and that's the main thing.

OMG I have been wondering about this for so long. Part of this is my skin was always nice and easy to take care of. I would use one brand for a year or more and then maybe switch but then with too much curiosity using different products just became like a fun past time. But when I was younger I would use the same damn moisturizer with sunscreen for like five years 😂 I think skin care KZfaq and constant product launches are making us over complicate something that can be so easy and still fun

Altruist have very affordable sunscreens (£4.50 for their 200ml SPF30 tube). The 200ml tube of sunscreen lasted me about 5 months, and I tend to apply a lot of it and reapply throughout the day (unless I’m wearing makeup but there have been few days of that during this pandemic). Also, it has a mixture of chemical and physical filters and it’s broad spectrum (with very high UVA protection) and it’s available to order on their website and on Amazon.

I love this advice and get horrified by how many actives some people want to use. It’s almost like they want to fix their skin by burning it off! A question I do have: totally agree about how most people don’t need both a retinoid and AHAs... but I think I’m doing it backwards from your advice. I use lactic acid a few times a week, and I tolerate it well. I know all the benefits of retinoids but since I’m wary of how my skin will tolerate it, and I know I tolerate lactic acid fine, I’ve basically decided to use AHAs and not use retinoids. Is there a reason why you recommend the other way around?

Totally agree Dr Sam. When I started my skincare journey I was bowled over by the number of products I saw people on Instagram using. So excited, I wanted to try them all!!! ... Didn't end well! I ended up with perioral dermatitis. It started very slowly just around my nose and mouth, but I kept going thinking (hoping) it would disappear. When I saw it spread I was disappointed and annoyed at the money I wasted. I stopped everything for quite some time (maybe 12 months) to give my skin a chance to go back to the way it was - then I started again ... very slowly! Introducing super gentle cleansers (Your flawless cleanser is my holy grail!) only cleansing at the end of the day and using water to wash in the morning. I built my routine up gradually and did my research before purchasing products and I made sure to use up the whole bottle before trying something new or stuck with what was working. The shiny sparkly new products are hard to resist especially when they're being promoted so enthusiastically by so many friends on social media ... takes a lot of will power and research (reading reviews etc) but my motto now is to keep it simple and consistent. Thanks for this clip, I love your work Xx

Dear Dr Bunting, I suggest you to review inorganic sunscreens with titanium dioxide, pigmentary titanium dioxide and pigmentary iron oxides. Avene Mineral cream 50 ml and Mineral lotion 100 ml use those components and I am very happy using them. Their Mineral fluid use titanium dioxide (11,4 %) and zinc oxide (14,6 %). I easily remove them all three with lipid based cleansers like Avene XeraCalm oil 400 ml or Tolerance extreme lotion 200 ml. I stopped using organic sunscreens as they leave yellow stains after washing because of avobenzone. I believe that titanium dioxide is excellent and underestimated filter and that by varying the size of particles and its concentration in formula it can protect against not only UV but also VL and IR. White cast is reduced by pigmentary iron oxides. Complete sunblocks like camouflaging facial foundations or surgical foundations contain no water and they contain the large amounts of titanium dioxide.

I would think so. Hyaluronic acid is for moisture which you need after retinol

You didn't address one of the main reasons people change up their skincare routine. It is a very widespread belief that if you use a product very often, your skin becomes accustomed and it stops working (it also applies to hair products).

it's not the case for skin at all. In the case of hair, what you are getting there is buildup of product. People use multiple products because of the lure of marketing and novelty.

I experienced the cleansing part first hand. I was so tired of the rough cleansers that I started using oatmeal+chickpea flour aa my cleanser. My skin transformed for the better. It's the best cleanser ever! Pls try it and if it works, visit my channel! ❤️

Have you considered that once you start your own product line, what you say in your videos is open to question? Your products appear straightforward and I do believe they have been tested adequately. But, as you of course know, each person has unique skin to some degree. I think this video is geared toward encouraging people to stick with your brand. This may very well be good advice for some, but certainly not for all.

I am about to step up my Tretinoin to.1 next week and just ordered my Dr Sams products ready for the inevitable onslaught ha... what is everyone's opinion on using mugwort to calm inflamation? I see it doing the rounds on KZfaq recently.

You have done lot of videos on female make up, but not one on men's styling product. I believe styling gels and sprays are bad for hair but what about pomade Atleast share your your views on pomades commercially available and DIY, are they safe for scalp/hair, can they be used daily

@@munmilks both aha are of very low strength... its necessary for my skin to remove the dead skin from previous 3 nights of retin a... it works for me... my skin is never better than now... trust me... I have been following this routine for almost a year now... and bentonite clay also works for my oily acne prone skin .... I only use it once a week so i believe that is just fine... 🙂🙂 and acv too I use very little.... I don't bother much with the essential oils because I use them only after the completion of my skin routines just for my happiness you know... anyway thank you for the good help....🙂🙂
