How have you guys been feeling about ranked mode recently? Let me know! I also wanted to clarify that I'm not saying you shouldn't be proud of your achievements in ranked mode, just wanted to go over some problems I have with ranked mode and explain why you shouldn't stress over a silly little rank.

Ranked has been mixed for me, it's either been really fun or freaking cancerous to play considering I get matched up with top tier characters like King, Jun, Azu, Drag, Victor, etc. Ranked can honestly feel mentally and physically draining, I just want Tekken King for now since I just like the look of it mainly lol. Also every time I'm near promo it all goes downhill from there, anything and everything will go wrong then I'll get sent back to the beginning of the rank I currently had.

My opinion on this from being a Tekken 7 player is bring back endless rematches instead of best of 3 and give pluggers instant losses. In Tekken 7 it was easier to learn matchups because it isn’t two wins and you’re done sometimes two wins isn’t enough to learn a player. Also for the pluggers i think for the devs It’s much harder to ban every player for plugging instead of just giving out losses

It's as you say in the video, it's stressful and triggering. Personally, I found myself feeling angry when I play ranked. There's this feeling of helplessness when you get robbed the round/set because of gimmicks or just braindead stuff. I play Yoshi so I know a lot of folks also feel the same way when they play me. Lol. I think you gave me a different perspective that I should look for those incremental improvements instead of just relying on what color I landed on for a given day. Looking back, I feel that I have come a very long way from being a beginner tekken player to a semi-decent Yoshi main. Granted still a long way to go to learn matchups, improve movements and defense. I think if I change my mindset about rank, then I'll enjoy the game more.

Hey man you're talking from a Feng main that made it to Tekken God prime from Tekken 7. Playing Tekken 8 can be frustrating because of the rank system being a mess. But no offense to you I call players like you b*tches. Not because you were complaining but if you take this approach towards ranked you'll never improve. I think Tekken is about adapting in all realms of the game. I just started about a month ago on Tekken 8 and I reached Tekken King. I currently hit a wall and I'm figuring out a way to get past it. Pluggers have been on Tekken 7 and you know that. Why you surprised if they're in Tekken 8? You either be quiet or not play the game. Don't have any sympathy for you man. That being said I main Feng and people could argue well you're getting carried blah blah blah I get about 10 hate messages after playing a couple hours. That's part of the game. If you don't like this advice then keep complaining about ranked. But my advice to you is you're going to have to learn how to deal with things that are not in your control. My complaints would be that all the Tekken God of destruction are fake because of ranked inflation. But that's not going to stop me from getting to that rank.

My recipe for having fun and improving at the same time : 1. Play ranked till you feel you’ve reached your comfortable rank range. Should take you just coupla hours. 2. Forget about ranked. Go to quick match and play within that rank range (cause the quick match still has matchmaking, even though its a bit less strict) till you feel like you’re dominating that bracket. 3. Return to ranked, and if you actually improved enough to dominate your current bracket - it will only take you like an hour to rank up. 4. Return to quick match and repeat. Dont sit in ranked 24/7 trying to grind it out. It’s exhausting, it’s triggering and it will burn you out.

@VDViktor This is my exact strategy with ranked and it 100 percent works. As soon as I promo, I stop playing ranked and spend the next couple of days in quick matches adjusting to that level. Then I return to ranked a couple days later nice and refreshed and rinse & repeat… I learned the hard way in T7 that those long 3+ hour rank sessions just set you up for burnout, tilt and regression… Short & sweet is definitely the way forward with ranked… call it a day on a high and use quick matches for training.

I do this too. My Ranked number of games is like 15% of my Quick Match. I very much prefer to just play online and have fun. You still learn alot in Quick Match, but without the nervousness and anxiety to ruin the experience. Also, in Quick Match, both players are far more willing to take risks, which is part of the fun.

I think if you get to purple rank legitimately without no Plugging or cheating, you’re a top-tier player you’re really good. Now that doesn’t mean you’re on professional esports player but you’re still better than like 99% of people. Keep in mind most people don’t even play ranked because they know they’re not good enough and don’t want to lose. So being around 10% of competitor players is really good.

It's because some players are lower ranks but they actually play like red ranks or higher, and if there's no green or orange ranks to play then you won't get a match-up and it becomes impossible to raise your rank, and they just end up waiting forever, if there's only a +-2 restriction. You don't notice this now because Tekken 8 is so damn popular but in 6 months it's going to be a problem. According to the devs of Tekken 8 the game is suppose to last about 10 years.

They should just do what all other multiplayer games do. The only thing that matters to me about playing Ranked is it raises the possibility of running into someone better than me and playing some good Tekken. It would be amazing if they made a lobby system that had different levels of Tekken players. If you're new, go to the beginner lobby. If you think you're pro, go try out a match at the pro lobby. No points, no ranks, just let people choose for themselves and play whatever they think is fun. Just like at a regular arcade. I think this would be a nice addition to Tekken.

I'm playing ranked despite the issues but I legitimately don't care about my rank atm because I know anything I lose now I will gain back later once I improve the issues I need to work on. It took me a few weeks to get to this mental stamina, and sometimes the one and dones and pluggers still get to me, but I cope by knowing at the end of the day those guys are just chasing imaginary points and aren't trying to get better at the game so their wins don't bother me too much

Most people search for a rank difference of 2 so you mostly match against those. The best strategy in rank is that once you get promo take a long break and do quick match and once you feel fresh and ready then you can play. If you get demoted and promoted back to the rank you were then also take a break and do quick matches. This works a lot since its very exhausting and impatient. Got Flame Ruler playing Kuma. I lack a lot of Sidestepping, Block-punishing, combos, adapting strings close to walls, spacing and character specific things. I have restricted to maximum 2 ranks. I rematch every game. I don’t plug. I know the character is carrying me quite a lot due to not being popular. For me is the way to get more experience and stamina since just labbing bores me although I know I need it to get better and try my best to engage in replay mode to analize. It takes a while for me to react and recognize strings ppl throw at me. The more tired I am the bigger the struggle to block, move properly, react, remember, etc. Next day I feel I can handle it better and got more resilience. To me, there are too many layers of knowledge in this game to care about rank. I focus on trying to solve the changing puzzles they throw at me and try to focus on the small victories I know I can get through games. Winning does feel good, but it is less hyped, lower adrenaline rush, losing does not feel as bad, it is less of a failure, less dopamine crash, more like a learning opportunity I can get something from and more awareness

tbh apart from plugging there is a very simple way to make ranked instantly a hundred times better: just implement sets, and reduce points for individual matches. for example, making it so that individual matches can only range from 50 to 200 points (you win less if you don't rematch, you win more if the opponent refuses), and that ft3 and ft5 grants a big bonus if you win the set. obviously, ranked matchmaking would have to be adapted to allow longer sets, I think that a ft5 maximum would be ideal. this would make one and dones be the grindiest way to rank up, but it would still be possible. and it would encourage people to play honest instead of trying to cheese people out all the time. this would most probably fix ranked and online matchmaking at the same time, in my opinion. the way it is now it's just horrendous to play. ranks are all over the place, and I regularly face people with just annoying flowcharts and nothing more, people that can't do a simple sidestep or walk, that can't kbd, and that uses heat burst and smashes and power crushes instead of blocking. and this game made it very, VERY hard to punish these things with movement, you get clipped by sh1t that should in theory be linear ALL the time... but balancing apart, if they just changed the ranked system it would immediately make it almost impossible for these people to rank up where they shouldn't be

Honestly this game as a new Tekken and fighting game player is just frustrating in general. The knowledge checks are overwhelming. Not to mention remembering the core game mechanics themselves. Oh and remembering your OWN moves lmao. It makes me not want to play because no matter how hard i try i feel like I’m always going to be played for a fool because i didn’t know that this characters move was punishable. I feel like the only way to win is nonstop in your face offense which as the description of the game says is exactly what the devs want. and by non stop offense i mean mashing buttons. It just doesnt feel good to play for me.

I feel you man. T8 is my first real tekken and alot of time i forget the basic core mechanics of the game mid match man. So use to 2d fighters but tekken is a diff beast entirely for me. Only 40 played but hopefully with time an more matches we get better

The fact that you can go and change the settings to no restrictions that can match you up with lower ranked people is crazy. That’s probably what a lot of people who like to brag about their rank do. They just take the path of least resistance in order to rank up faster.

Banning an account is the same as making them lose points, except they arent only made go down a few points. They are essentially demoted back to beginning, and the further down you go, the less likely it is that you'll want to make the climb back up. So im all for bans. However, how long will that take to get results? Can the folks who got DC'd on get their win points, atleast?

I am really not stressing my rank at all right now. First tekken in YEARS. I've just got my 4th player to red ranks, moving on to my 5th and every time i get another player to red ranks its getting easier and easier. Still not set on a main im just really enjoying building my fundamentals and matchup knowledge so why bother going for rank when im not sure who i want to take me there, I got the year 1 character pass so my main might not even be in the game yet (if they added Bruce itd be deal done)

Rank is character specific, so it doesn't imply anything. I look at Tekken Power. If I see someone with a Tekken Power of 170,000+, but in Cavalry rank, it means this player is purple rank class, but presumably ranking up his/her secondary character. So the takeaway is, this player may not necessarily be super proficient with this Cavalry character, but the knowledge check (punishes, throw breaks etc.) is at purple rank level. But of course, this player could have plugged his/her way to 170,000+. But just saying that between rank and power, the latter is the better indicator of experience/knowledge.

I don't feel like the "No restrictions" thing is a fair point. You get a very small amount of pts even if you're a couple of ranks apart. I'm Fujin, with a couple of characters in red\purple ranks, and I've been playing with this thing on, and, maybe, once in like 50-70 games, I'll get someone, who's significantly lower rank, and, usually, I just wait after the game - if they press rematch, I just confirm, if they don't, and they're not interested in playing - I just go on. I won't stop stressing this - the main issue with ranked system, imo, is the fact that they removed deathmatch. The game both felt better in T7, stresswise, when you could find yourself someone to deathmatch for like an hour stress, until someone ranks up\deranks, lol. And it would make an issue with pluggers less pronounced, since you wouldn't run into pluggers as much. I just feel like BO3 made ranked so much worse, both as a learning experience and as a competitive environment. And the worst thing about it, is, even though a lot more people play T8 - I feel like I spend way more time in searching the game, compared to even late T7, where you could just run into 1 guy, who feels like fighting a decent amount, and spend the entire session just fighting it out.

Like I’ve said in the past, I just think of the rank as a byproduct for improving. Playing for the sole purpose of “ranking up” will put more pressure on yourself and play worse than you normally would. But I also agree that Namco shouldn’t ban pluggers as these players are only cheating themselves in the bigger picture and it won’t save them when push comes to shove for a Tourney.

I’m genuinely interested. If the nature of the game is “triggering,” why play it? Why not do something that you hate but gives you money instead? I just really like the game because I’m relatively new to fighting games and love how cerebral they are and because of their depth. You never stop learning. If I didn’t have fun I would never play them.

If a match disconnects, whoever is the reason should take a loss, regardless. Its annoying when it happens in games like FIFA, but there isn't really a better option. And if someone leaves on you, if you're winning, you should win, and take a draw if it's anything else.

Ranks in general just bring out extremely toxic behavior. Its much hard to try and learn match-ups when you have the eqivalent of an annoying brother who is screaming "YOU'RE GONNA LOSE, BETTER NOT DEMOTE" Just fucking infuriating. Also people generally don't like feeling like their time was wasted, so when you play like 4-5 hours and make no progress or actually regress in rank it feels like that was just a waste of time.

I think plugging is obviously bad but one and done matches don’t bother me much in ranked.. If someone leaves they just don’t wanna continue and that’s fine.. maybe they need to leave to work on their skill.. I’d rather you one and done rather than half ass the next match.. plus Tekken 8 is pretty fast I mean you’re in and out of matches all the time for that to matter that much.. or if the match was laggy or sum like that.. That’s not as big of a deal as plugging

I have king and hwo at shinryu and I rematch everyone unless it’s a bad connection even when I know someone is way better than me. I’ve been plugged on and not rematched when I’m the hammer not the nail. I wouldn't call strings gimmicks, you need to know when you can punish and when you can't. What happens if you get into a tournament and someone is doing a string or setting you up for one? Also ranked doesn't matter in fact online doesn't matter because fundamentally the game can't be played properly online when you emulate both players on P1 side things can happen that aren't even possible playing offline.

Personally i do not care about ranked - I have experience playing - i am just enjoying the game at "1st Dan" i done several FT10s vs ranked players (Flame rulers, Fujins, Raijins, Tekken Kings ect) and i have won several of these sets - so far my record is 4-2 in those FT10 sets Playing long sets and watching your replays and cleaning up mistakes is more effective than gambling 2/3 on ranked for a fancy title
