I spent the better part of my 20s declaring myself an atheist, rebelling against the roots of my Christian upbringing. I married an amazing man at 21, though we both got away from the faiths of our childhood. I became a mother at 28 and the love I felt as a parent changed my whole perspective of the meaning of life. We began to go to church (in the heart of the bible belt, no less!) and started to turn away from my atheism, realizing that I actually had really misunderstood so much of what I formerly rebelled against. But doubt persisted despite my longing to have bigger faith. I became pregnant with my 2nd child at 29 years old and caught COVID when I was 7 months pregnant. I was pretty bad off, and was placed on a ventilator for 10 days. I woke up in the ICU having no idea that my baby and I had just survived such an ordeal. The nurse told me I was very lucky to be alive and was one of the few pregnant covid mothers on that ward at that time that had bounced back after being put on life support with my baby alive too. The fact that others in my very situation didnt survive is not lost on me. I think about it daily. As soon as the nurse left the room, I surrendered my life to God and thanked Him for giving me a second chance. I may not have all the answers to life, but everyday that me and my son wake up is a gift. I will forever praise Jesus, and idc how crazy it may sound to some.

I love this video. Haha. I was raised a Catholic and didn’t start taking it seriously until about 3 or 4 months ago. Now that I go to Mass every Sunday and try to follow the commandments of Christ, I’ve never felt or found this much peace and contentment. I cannot even claim I was the one to go back on my own, who called me back? Jesus Christ called me, He made the ultimate sacrifice for us all, it’s about time we sacrifice our egos and time for Him, the only begotten Son of God. God bless you all. Peace be with you.

As a Orthodox Christian there are many reason to attend church. I myself have had so many positive things happened to me from a low point in my life where i actually prayed for things and they came true. I go to give thanks and praise. Sure I can thank God from my bedroom but I believe making the effort to actually go shows my gratitude. Also people go for many other reasons...people who are lonely will met other people that understand and want to reach out to you......God made church for his flock...he doesn't need the church the building but he wants the people to help other people ....the church is people not the bricks and mortar.

As a pastors son, I have absolute empathy for people who are failed by their churches and choose a life without God. I’ve seen churches with all kinds of environments and a bad church that is run with sin should be casted out, but if you find the right church with an immovable set of faith and values you’ll find true bliss. Ain’t nothing like pure acceptance of the lost soul by a multiple of people trying to cleanse it and lift the spirit way up!

I was raised roman catholic. At age 10 I fell in love with science, and soon when I turned 13 my parents gave me the choice to attend church or not. I stopped going immediately and pursued science. Now at age 40 something I find myself attending mass again. Not necessarily seeking redemption or absolution or anything of that nature, perhaps some answers on the madness gripping the world, but I just find the church building and its atmosphere and related rituals calming and soothing, much like JP. I also really appreciate the fact it's a place my local community still make an effort for, in terms of appearance and pride, everyone turns up in their Sunday best looking sharp. I always leave with a wholesome, happy feeling... and if nothing else, it's worth going for that alone.

I haven't gone to church in a couple years, just been fighting depression but maybe going back is exactly what I need. I'm also Orthodox and was raised going to a Ukrainian Orthodox church in a small town called Andrew in Alberta Canada. I find something soothing when you attend, the tradition and divine liturgy that has been the same since Christ. There is an English-speaking Orthodox church in my city that I was attending

He has a point here, some of the people that live in this world like to have their cake and eat it too. I understand most of us have some inconsistencies as most humans do, but the degree of inconsistencies that have been growing is unfortunate. I wish all reading to have a spectacular day, and maintain as much sanity as you can in these times.

Love this man, this is really hitting the nail on the head! "You think the Catholics are bad, wait to you see what's coming to replace them". I have been struggling lately in my devout Catholic life but this happens and is normal before a revelation of sorts. I am determined to simplify my life drastically, cutting down on Facebook and Messenger, trips to the city, alcohol, caffeine and sugary treats. Trying to live a simple and earthly holy life everyday at my home, with a good balance of work prayer and gratitude; rarely going out; trying not to chase or change the world but to change myself!

I wasn’t raise Christian. Now I love the Roman Catholic Mass. There’s always a mass wherever I go. If I’m traveling for work or on vacation I can still attend a mass. God bless his people.

Having a good church to go to is amazing. No church is perfect because as humans, we all have sin in our lives. But having people around to encourage me to strive after Christ in every part of my life has helped me grow both relationally and spiritually, especially through the pandemic.

Thanks for sharing. I grew up agnostic/atheistic and was taught general do’s and don’ts by well meaning and loving agnostic parents, but it wasn’t until an existential crisis of sorts in my college years that I began to explore theology. I had a couple of what some might call religious experiences during this time, and I eventually found myself in an Orthodox Church. I was not convinced at first, but I decided to attempt to live as if it was real. It has been 6 months, and the truth of the church has become a truth to me in a self-apparent way - more than I could have imagined. I expect it will continue to convict me of the truth even further so long as I continue on this path. While far from a “perfectly redeemed” soul, and still full of sin and folly, I feel like I am finally on the path towards living a meaningful life in the truest sense as a young man with a young family - the most essential time to develop true meaning. This is thanks largely to the church, and dare I say, entirely thanks to the grace of God whom until recently I denied the very existence of.

What I love about Mr. Jordan’s ability to laugh and get laughs. Nothing is so serious to take away our laughter.

I see he is still searching. We all go down many roads and think that it is the correct one only to find out that it was not the correct road. The 24/7 personal walk and relationship with the Most High is an ongoing, never ending, continuous learning journey, because none of us has all the answers. That is why Jesus/Yeshua stated "Let every man work out his own salvation with fear and trembling before the Most High." He created us each differently. We each see things through different eyes and different opinions and should not compare ourselves with anyone else for we each are unique in our own way. You can assemble without it being in a building. For we are the "Temple" of the Most High. And "wherever two or three gather together in my name, There I am also." Be Blessed!

I am so, so in need of my Catholic beliefs in my daily life. I am a very religious woman created by God. I decided to be baptized Catholic when I was four years old. I left the Church when I was fifteen years old for about four or six months and ended up at a protestant church. I was not happy attending that church Mount Zion church. I left and when back to my Catholic Church. I did my Communion and Confirmation. In October of 1998 I said that I will never, never, ever leave my Catholic faith again. 24 years later I am still thinking and saying the same. I can not be brainwashed when I know the RAW UNFILTERED TRUTH. Now, thank God that I am able to attend The Traditional Latin Mass. God bless you Doctor Peterson. Thank you so much for everything you do. I really appreciate it. I am so thankful for people like you who speaks the truth.

It was Jordan's advice to not lie that gave me the courage to step away from participating at church. The certainty that was expected from me was making me feel weak. Not stronger. The curriculum being taught was extremely hard for me to stand behind. I found myself saying, "the church teaches XYZ" instead of "I think or I believe XYZ" when teaching the youth or my own children. I only have experience in one particular brand of church, but being in this world of millennial "nones" the script seems to be the same for others leaving other brands of churches. I like the idea of God. I like the idea of having faith in the good. I've gone down philosophical rabbit holes and I feel like I have to have faith in something to avoid aimless nihilism. However, every time I look into a church they want me to have faith on a set of facts that makes their brand special. When in reality I don't see one brand better than another. No brand means no common ground I guess. It is kind of paradoxical in my mind. The creeds are what bug me, but it is the creed that brings people together. So it puts me in a very strange luke warm place and I don't know what to do about it. I don't like the idea of "rescuing the father" because how do I know I'm not just letting in snakes? The best I can do is be honest and say I don't participate in any organized religion, but I support others as they aim up, if that involves participating in an organized religion they have my support. Even the one that I no longer participate in.

Church really saved me. But I only dared enter one after I had read the Bible. My thought was… “is this that?” 20 something years on I’m so grateful for the amazing people who have loved me though my brokenness. Taught me, pushed me and opened new pathways for me. I don't believe in God, but I do like the architectural aesthetics and the somber ambiance of old churches and cathedrals. Regardless of your beliefs, they are places that are very well suited for contemplation and just spending time with yourself...and that's much different from being alone.

I was an ardent atheist for my entire youth. I read Dan Brown from a young age, and couldn't get over the atrocities of the church towards Enlightenment thinkers, Galileo, Giordano Bruno, and the Crusades - which propelled me into the firm grasp of the four horseman and atheist thinkers. Then I saw Aethesim devolve into atheism+. Now not believing in God was a community, and it came with a set of seemingly incoherent values that replaced the dogma of the church with its own faith in progressive ideology. At a dark point in my life, I came across your lecture series on Genesis and was recommended your book "12 Rules fo Life". Both were life-changing. To approach these didactic fables with optimism, rather than scorn and discontent, I learnt that these institutions I had grown to revile, despite their flaws, had unbelievable importance in preserving Judeo-Christian values. These were the moral bedrock upon which Western tradition was built. Furthermore, after reading "The Gulag Archipeligo", a suggestion from your reading list, I realized how far into hell a godless nation can fall. When those in charge answer to no one, and the divinity of the individual is forgotten, we raise hell on earth, and that hell is real. Now agnostic, and less judgemental of religious teachings, I see the value of preserving the traditions and culture of the past that has brought us this far. The Pharoh is part culture, part revolution, a delicate balance between order and chaos. I can no longer call myself an atheist because to hold that blind faith that I have definitive proof no god exists, is to fall into the same trap as the religious fundamentalists. I am open to new information, humbled by my ignorance, and in gratitude for the beauty and wisdom of a culture that transcends mortality from those dead who lived a life in service to something greater than themselves.

Peterson's excellent discussion of religion and particularly Christianity is the reason I became a Christian. Since then, my life has become so much richer. Some of the reason (I think) has to do with simply contemplating the sacred mysteries, even if I don't know if I fully believe in them. I loved Peterson's definition of belief as "acting as if something is true". This is how I approach my religion and I find that it is more useful when approaching the subject of religion and accessing its benefits.

To borrow a technique that Dr. Peterson is so fond of: what exactly do you mean by "church"? There are many more kinds of church than Peterson describes in this video. There are many churches in the United States that are the exact opposite of what he describes. There are churches in the United States that weekly sow fear, mistrust, anger, and hatred against anyone who is "other" than they are.

Wow this is so moving to me. I went to Catholic Church with my husband when we met as teenagers. Joined the church in my 20’s. We were very active in the church when we lived in Indiana. When we moved to California in 2003 I tried to find a good fit but it’s not the same here! Unfortunately I quit going and regret it now. I’ve got to go back because I miss it. I was raised Catholic, and received a very good education in Catholic schools. I began to doubt the faith at age 15, struggled with it, and by 20 concluded that I simply did not believe in the divinity of Jesus, and therefore could not go to church in good conscience. However, I would be deeply sad if Catholicism withered away and vanished. For all the church’s many, many flaws, it’s provided meaning and stability for billions of people over two millennia. We still need it, just like we still need other ancient religions to endure.

I went to church for the first time today because I always avoided it, thinking the institution is broken. I've always been a Christian and this video was literally a Godsent it answered all my questions about the importance of attending church as a Christian. Thank you Mr. Peterson for being a vessel from God and helping other people make sense of this world.

Mom’s Last Gift By Michael Biggs I thank you all for coming to my Mother’s celebration of life ceremony. You know, Mom really had a way of bringing everyone together. She may have been small in stature but she had the biggest heart of any person I’ve ever known. She loved her family and as most of you know it wasn’t always the easiest for her growing up. She was the oldest of 9, I believe, siblings and a lot of the time she was the mother figure to them growing up while my grandparents both worked. She never complained about it though and loved them all with all of her heart. She loved my Dad and us boys as well. Growing up in an Army family wasn’t always easy but we made it work. She always made it feel like home where ever we were. I remember one Christmas in Germany she went all out and decorated the entire house. She would have Christmas tunes on the cassette player and we would dance in the living room. She devoted her life to her family and my Dad. She had odd jobs here and there but it wasn’t until I was in high school that she decided to take on a career of her own. She started as a pharmacy technician and then got another degree to become a Medical Lab Scientist. I am so proud of my Mother. She could have coasted life out and rode on my Dad’s achievements but she didn’t go that route. Before she passed she was processing cells for cancer patients at Baylor Scott and White. She would remove the cells and treat them with chemotherapy to then give back to the patients. She set the standard and was someone to look up to. Mom loved Jesus Christ. Up until about a month ago I was searching for what I believed in. I called myself an “Athiest” but I don’t think that is intellectually honest. I was afraid. Mom and I used to have these heated debates about whether God existed or not. I would watch a video by some athiest and come to her with my points. She never faltered in her faith and I always respected her for that. I promised her back in 2009 when I was deployed to Iraq that I would read the Bible if she read the entire Twilight series (yup I’m a nerd). She lived up to her promise but I never did. When she went to the ER and I called my brother who had tears in his eyes I knew that this was serious. I got down on my knees right then and there and for the first time in my life I began to pray in earnest for my mother to be healed. I went and tried to read my King James version Bible that my Great Uncle Merle had given me back in 2006 but it was like trying to read a foreign language. So I went and bought a New International Version to read instead. To be honest when I first started reading the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John about the life of Jesus it was out of guilt. But as I began to read more and more each day I began to know who Jesus truly was. Not the pop culture ideology that I had in my head but the real and true God made flesh. So I am here to tell you that my Mom gave me many gifts on this Earth. She gave me love, compassion, a hard work ethic, strength, and knowledge but the greatest gift she ever gave me was helping to lead me to Jesus Christ. I am here to testify before you now that he is my Lord and Savior. I believe he came to Earth, lived a perfect life, died on the Cross for the sins of all mankind, was risen from the dead three days later and if you truly believe these things in your heart that you will receive the gift of eternal life through God’s grace! He answered my prayers to heal my Mom just not the way I wanted. He healed her truly and completely and brought her to be with him in Heaven so that she would no longer suffer. So Mom I will still cry from time to time but they are tears of joy because I miss you. But I know now in my heart of hearts that I will see you again. So keep Grandma and Grandpa Punches, and Great Uncle Merle company up there for me. Just know that I love you with all my heart and this isn’t goodbye forever, only until I see you again.

Every Sunday i go to church for a few hours. This is going on for a few weeks and honest to God... My life has changed. I have no ideea why, but trulley my life has changed in a better way, i can feel things differently now and i never thought this is what will happen

Your video the other day, "A Message to the Christian Churches", was the tipping poing for me to go back to church. I'm still not convinced that God actually exists, but I see great value in your framing of "acting as though He does exist". The "debased mind" of the unbeliever and the "giving over" to every form of self-serving persuit is pervasive in our society, and whether or not God exists, the Bible has turned out to be much more accurate about many things I'd have given it credit for a few years ago. I've come around to the point where I'm willing to take the teachings of Christianity and the millenia of compiled wisdom they represent seriously. Who knows, God may even decide to give me something that truly convinces me of His existence at some point along this path. Thank you for spurring me to action over the years, I'm in a better place every day for it.
