When I was born in 53, I only weighed 4lbs/5 oz. My Grandma came to the hospital with goats milk the nurse was livid and refused to let my grandma give me the goats milk , the nurse was so upset she ran for the Dr. and he said " yes give it to her, maybe she'll survive, ..... I did

Breast milk is the best thing a baby can drink, and goats milk is very close to it. I can totally believe that goats milk would work well for a baby.

The motion of the animals spoke to me louder than words thunder in the mist:::..in my heart bring fermentation to Love! For the goat! And what it means in mythology and go'ology God gave us the ability to Care for it ! In a safer habitats.. lovely thing!

Just an FYI - messing around with a goat's head generally leads to the goat learning that butting you is okay - very bad if you have children around. I also never allow my goats, especially bucks, to jump on me. The best way to stop that is carry a small squirt bottle with you and tell them no, using the squirts from the bottle to enforce your command. This helps them learn that you are NOT a play toy and is a non-violent, very effective deterrent.

Pygmy is a miniature meat goat so they have more muscle to bone ratio. Nigerian a miniature dairy, so more bone.

In my personal opinion I think as far as if you're getting grown regular size sheet French alpine's are really good with for milk they can give up to 2 gallons a day, and they do have to be milked twice a day.

We (me and my grandma) raise unregistered Nigerian dwarfs here and absolutely love their personalities!! I plan on milking hopefully within the next year (my specific doe I want to milk is only 20lbs and only 11 months old at the moment) so can’t wait!!

What’s the advantage of registered vs unregistered goats? Do you have to hand milk goats or do they make mechanical milkers?

What a great video! Thank you for all the info We loved the 'Dad Jokes!' And we think your goats have the best names around! My father in law keeps boers but we are interested in Nigerian Dwarf goats to keep as pets and for milk. We have acreage and were thinking we will need a "Guard" animal, and I'm pretty sure our two Mini Dachshunds aren't cut out for the job. Is that the reason you have 'Fiona' the Donkey out there with them? In your experience, Is a donkey the best choice for protecting goats? Any drawbacks? Thanks! Any of the LGDs or donkeys are good for that. It seems to make a big difference if they grow up together or not. LGDs and donkeys can be temperamental of the animals around them are "new".

You can do soy, oat, almond, powdered etc. and those are all vegan options so you don’t harm mother goats.

I got my first Nigerian Dwarf doeling on the 26th. My kids really like her now and I'm planning on getting another female soon. She's almost leash trained... found out also if you have any gaps big enuf they'll be sure to go thru them. She seemed to get along with our horses - or they thought she was ok to have around.

Nope, they will still get through and possible hurt themselves. Goats require woven fencing

We raise Nigerians, and Alpines for milk. Planning on crossing the two for experimentals. We also have Kikos for meat. Our bucks get a little smelly during the breeding season but it's tolerable and if you want babies you need a male.

Do you as a Goat herder recommend that people that really don't know a lot about sheep and goats that they speak with a vet and maybe a furrier because and sheep and goats need their feet done I'm just asking out of curiosity I'm not saying anything negative I think your videos are great but I'm just asking a question I get 4of my sheep sheared, nails cut wormed, and other treatments they need , one is a hair sheep but she still has to have feet done and other treatments

@@cjshadrick4607 if you are concerned about it then having your vet show you how to do it isn't a bad idea. The hoof trimming and many other care steps with goats are fairly simple and can be done by most farmers with a little practice.

@@CattywampusAcres I'm blessed to have a shearer that comes to me , and he takes care of everything my 5 sheep need , I have one sheep that doesn't have to be sheared because she's a hair sheep (a Brown katahdin ) but she does have to have other shots she needs, she's adorable

This was helpful to me. We are planning on moving out of the suburbs back into the mountains soon. I’ve wanted goats since I was 15 (so over a couple decades *cough*). I want Nigerians and this just reinforced why I want them. Hopefully it happens sooner rather than later. 😄

Thanks for sharing, 1st time for me. At the opening your mike issue close to camera, turned volume down, backed away, had to go up ... then up and down up down. Possible awareness for future. Otherwise good opening info. Well presented. In warmer weather do you wash them? I know a few peeps that do... helps and they still have enough "Eau de toilette" to be sexy for the ladies in the fall.

Great video. I'm getting two fixed bucklings in 4 days and I'm learning so I want to thank you for sharing and breaking it down to who is who and what they do. I was curious though if that donkey is a miniature or normal full sized one. I am thinking to get one too if they aren't too big. I'm in TN and the brush overtakes my yard so I can't wait for these babies to clean them up for me :) Oh and would they eat grass if I put them in a raised feeder?

Fiona that's in the video is a miniature. They are a max of 3 feet at the withers. They prefer grasses when the have dried and become hay. Ours eat primarily coastal Bermuda. They like legume hays but they are extremely high in protein and not really necessary. The brush they will eat as much as they can handle though. Since you will have wethers, be very cautious or over feeding grain and too high proteins. They are more apt to develop urinary calculi which will kill them.

They should have hay free choice but you can definitely overfeed grain

Inbreeding can be OK but any bad qualities in the parents can be amplified that way so it's usually not recommended

Im glad I found yall. We bought 2 acres in December and 3 goats in Feb, 2 does and a buck. They are now 2 months old. What age do you recommend breeding? Also, we are going to build a separate pen for Abraham so we can control breeding. Should we get him a buddy? A wether?

Most recommend waiting till 18 months for does but some go as early as a year. It just depends on size of the doe. They will be able to go way before then but is could definitely cause issues. A wether would be a good companion for sure. The buck will occasionally treat the wether like a doe though so just be prepared for that.

I Just purchased a Nigerian Dwarf Goat, had him for a week and I am so scared he is going to eat leaves from a tree that isn't good for them, but Idk what kind of tree it is, I Love him, but I sure do have alot to learn, Great Video, Thank You.

Most trees are ok for them. To be honest they typically self regulate what they eat. If they eat something and don't feel good they wont eat it again. Majority of fruit trees are their favorite

Just curious if these goats can eat young oak leaves? My father had boar goats that died from the oak trees. He was told that oak trees are toxic when young?

How loud is their bleating? Is it going to keep people up at night or is it more in line with the volume of a chicken clucking? We are thinking of getting a couple as pets and to hang out with our chickens.

They typically don't make any noise at all at night as long as they are well fed

Thank you so much for the info! We are wanting some goats for our kids..human kids 😂 Do the Nigerian goats handle cold winters well? We can get about 6 ft of snow during our winters.

They definitely can handle most temperatures. Just make sure they have a good shelter with warm bedding to go to. A warming light while they are young wouldn't be a bad idea during cold temperatures. Thanks for watching! Let us know if you have any questions!
