A good comparison is Walmart and target. There’s more Walmart’s then targets, you also pay more at target but get higher quality stuff and a nicer Feeling/looking store. Walmart is also the biggest fish in the pond I believe. There’s more six flags parks then cedar fair parks, you pay more for cedar fair and get a better feeling/ looking park and six flags is the big fish in the amusement park pond

Every park gets garbage like Vekoma Boomerangs, SLC's, and Backlot Stunt Coasters.... replace the nice theming with puke movie themes (Paramount)/DC Universe brands (SF) and puke Coca-Cola logos (both) everywhere.

100% agree with your arguments. Six Flags doesn’t have it them to run Cedar Fair parks. There would be no competition and I have a feeling some parks would be sold off as well. It would be a nightmare unless it’s vice versa and that still would leave it as a monopoly creating less of a need to invest

Had horrible terrible experiences at six flags parks and cedar fair parks have been absolutely wonderful. Even the people who work at six flags didn't like the parks!!!! Whereas cedar's employees and visitors always seem excited at the parks, even during long wait times!

Cedar Fair has about 110 million “shares” last time I looked. Not sure if that’s including the internally owned 52%

Cedar Fair (FUN) has 56.6M shares outstanding with a market cap of $3.4B. 3.4B / 56.6M = $61.18 current stock price. 47% is currently held by institutions (I.e. funds, banks, and the public), so yes ~52% is privately held. While Six Flags (SIX) has a market cap of $4.2B. Given their large debt, and a market cap similar to Cedar Fair, they would ultimately need to find an outside funding source. I live in Columbus OH so short drives to CP and KI... praying this deal falls through.

I also wouldn’t say Cedar Fair (FUN) is ‘better’ because their current share price is higher than Six Flags (SIX). It is simply Six has more shares outstanding, and a lower market capitalization, leading to the lower share price. If both companies had the same # of shares outstanding, SIX’s stock price would be higher based on their market cap.

CEDAR FAIR 'NOT LOOKING TO BE SOLD': After speaking with Cedar Fair's management on Thursday, Wells Fargo analyst Timothy Conder said management did state that the company is not looking to be sold. Conder added that management conducted scheduled one-on-one meetings earlier in the week and has scheduled meetings next week, but did not participate in the B. Riley conference on Thursday based on legal advice. The analyst also reiterated that he believes a Six Flags acquisition of Cedar Fair is "highly unlikely." He also feels the recent pullback in Six Flags shares is "overdone and unwarranted." Candor would be an "aggressive" buyer of Six Flags shares ahead of what he expects will be "solid" Q3 results from both companies. Earlier in the week, Conder told investors that Six Flags would likely need a substantial equity issuance to keep the combined company's leverage near four-times, and while both are regional operators, their cultures are different. Further, the analyst believes Six Flags would need to pay a big premium to cover the taxes of Cedar Fair's long-term investor base.

@@annashafer9303 A company must hear out any offer as part of fiduciary responsibility to shareholders. Companies have been sued by shareholders for not doing it. The offer was far from serious and some analyst are looking at it skeptically for having a motive beyond an actual deal. The offer was a low ball offer. The equivalent of $70 share in cash and SF shares is just a 18% premium on CF's pre offer stock price. To put that in perspective back in 2009 CF was offered a 27% premium by Apollo to buy them out and CF was in trouble then and was leveraged to about 7x. Also, the 18% premium offer is just 12% over what CF's 1 year price target. CF also has overa 6 % dividend. the offer was a low ball and SF was acting as CF was about to collapse like SEAS was in 2017. A legit offer based on several analyst calculations to compensate shareholders for the MLP tax benefit structure and an adequate premium would have been about $90 share.

@CARLETHOS HARRIS Did you even read the post. Never said they were in trouble, their trouble was a decade ago. Also, caps are not needed and working at Cedar Point means nothing, I have heard the most ignorant and ill informed things over the years from CP employees concerning the chain. I know their finances as I read every annual report cover to cover, quarterly report, know the details to every conf call, investor presentation and analyst day presentation.

but Hey, I have seen a roller coaster wrapped in an advertisement selling prepaid phone services. I saw a SIMPLE Mobile one lol and I have their service. Advertising that SIM cards cost $1 at chain stores,supermarkets,and drugstores nationwide lol. I guess it subsides the park prices so we could pay cheaper rates. Without that ad banner I wouldn't use their service.

Six Flags taking over Cedar Fair will hopefully never happen, and having watched your video I am reassured it won't thanks to the sensible points made! I have only been to one actual Six Flags park, Great Adventure and been to two former Six flags parks, Parque Warner and Walibi Holland, as much as I like those parks the thought of Six Flags owning Cedar Point is horrendous! Maybe Six Flags should try their hand in Europe again if they're so desperate for some new parks to operate.

I hope both parks don't buy each other. Six flags buying Cedar Fair is bad because they run their parks very cheaply, If they run Cedar Fair parks, most of their big parks will be given smaller coasters, even smaller now because now they have to spend more money of keeping them running. Cedar Fair buying Six flags is bad because they will abandon EVEN MORE parks. At least six flags gives their parks a ride each year. With Cedar Fair, they'll stop giving rides to La Ronde, Great Escape, Darien Lake, and more. This is just my opinion

Just walking around Knott's Berry Farm gives me so much nostalgia. Everything about the theming to the quality rides. You can't say the same for any Six Flags park. Their parks just feel like a big chunk of land that is overfilled with rollercoasters. Yes, Six Flags is fun and thrilling and all, but it can never beat a Disney or Cedar Fair in my heart.

I like both Magic Mountain AND Cedar Point, but I don't see the point of merging. Competition is needed to keep the prices affordable. Plus I love seeing who's gonna have the next record breaker! From X2 to Millenium Force all the way to Full Throttle to Steel Vengeance. Keep them separate so we can keep our choices!

I sure hope you're right I believe Cedar Fair and my beloved Cedar Point are far superior then Six Flags I think the Six Flags organization would just Drive Cedar Point into the ground.... I know Cedar Fair own so many other parts besides Cedar Point but Cedar Point is my Park and has so much history and tradition and Six Flags with just kill it I sure hope this does not go through

Six Flags would drive Cedar Fair into the ground the way Paramount almost drove the Taft parks into the ground. Thankfully they wisely gave up and sold those parks to CF. Anybody who has a Taft park for their home park and went through the Paramount years knows how bad this is.

It should be noted that the market cap for six flags is 1 billion more than cedar fair making it the larger company. Six flags has more shares outstanding so the value for each one is lower. I remember when Cedar fair bought knotts berry farm, put in silver bullet in the front of the park and newspapers and fans were angry the charm of ghost town was going to be ruined. Cedar fair was definatley less destructive than six flags would have been but cedar fair is not as hands off as people think.

With Reid-Anderson leaving, it’s possible a merger would lead to Cedar Fair leadership either taking over or at least continuing to play a role. In that scenario, any future changes in business strategy might actually lean towards the Cedar Fair mentality. I doubt we get multiple B&Ms a year or anything, but perhaps we see more atmosphere from Six Flags parks and the restoration of classic rides like Jungleland Express, formerly at Six Flags Great Adventure.

I live in Chicago. I would much rather spend my money at CP rather than go up the street to GA. I find SF to be dirty and over crowded. The two times I've been to CP not a huge crowd, awesome rides, better value on food and employees have been pretty nice. Just over all a more pleasurable and fun experience. SF would kill that in a blink of an eye.

Six Flags gets a bad rap about clones and yes they have clones but all of their parks also have unique rides too! I've said this before but the Six Flags prototype does have a place and makes sense. Six Flags is the McDonald's of amusement parks providing a "similar" experience at a reasonable price for families who can't afford to take their four or five kids all over the country to visit theme parks. That way families can visit nearby Six Flags parks and have the same experience instead of driving, or Heaven forbid, flying several states away. Six Flags has their place on the theme park landscape and so does Cedar Fair and they both should stay in their lanes! With that said, do I want them to merge? HELL NAW!!! LOL

Taylor might know about rollercoasters but he clearly doesn't know about stocks. You do not judge a company's worth based on their current market share price. A company can manipulate its share price to be lower so more people buy it, or vice versa. In fact, Six Flags market cap (the thing that ACTUALLY shows the true worth of a company) is over 33% HIGHER than Cedar Fair's market cap! Edit: a word

I live about a 20 minute drive from what used to be Six Flags Worlds of Adventure in northeast Ohio. It's now an abandoned, overgrown lot. There are few fans of Cedar Fair here because ultimately they're the ones who killed that park off, but it was Six Flags that started THAT particular ball rolling downhill, and I don't think ANYBODY in this area is looking to have Six Flags anywhere near us ever again. We've seen this show before. It doesn't end well.

I know it’s highly unlikely but I can’t imagine what they would do if it goes through and what they would do with Knotts and scary farm. Cedar Fair already tried to stronghold Knotts and make it like the other parks and people hated it. Now they kinda just let Knotts do its thing. Six flags would ruin it.

I grew up at Cedar Point. I'm taking my 10 year old son there in two days for the first time. It is literally my favorite place on Earth. The thought of Cedar Point being owned and operated by Six Flags makes me physically ill. Whoever hatched this detestable scheme is the kind of person abortion doctors think about when they want to feel better about their job. Glad this is extraordinarily unlikely to ever happen.

Minor error with your stock analysis but it’s all good the number you want to be looking for is the MarketCap which is 3.3B for Cedar Fair and 4.6B for Six flags that is the value of of their shares combined

The only chain parks in America that I'd be okay with seeing together are the Herschend parks and the SeaWorld ones. With that being said I think that the culture between the two companies is very different. If anything, Herschend is more relatable to the SeaWorld Parks when they were owned and operated by Anheuser-Busch.

I said in the comments in another video, if this merger did happen (doesn't matter which buys which, the end result is the same, a Goliath of a theme park operator) that might well force the other North American operators to merge just to survive. That means SeaWorld joining up with Herschend, Palace Entertainment, and independents like HersheyPark. Optimally Universal would get involved too. Kind of like we saw in the airlines when Delta bought Northwest, United bought Continental, and American bought US Airways.

If they bought it, you never see a new rollercoaster ever again. All the money you'd pay at the park would be sent to Ohio to build coasters they already have. A good example would be the taller, faster, but not longer version of of diamond back there adding at kings island.

@@sworded Analyst day was August 9th at Cedar Point. It's a yearly event where CF hosts the theme park/leisure industry analysts that cover their stock. CF does a presentation with Q&A on their financials and strategy. It's more important years like this when CF is presenting a new strategy most years it's just reiterating the current strategy and maybe a few changes. The presentation was almost 3 hours as CF wanted to give as much data, surveys, market study analysis to show the data behind the changed strategy. Changes can make analysts wary so you kind to have to sell them on it, but in the end the results in revenue, EBIDTA will eventually tell whether it's a success.

This video comes across as “it can’t happen because I don’t want it to”. Even though I agree with the reasons on why Six flags buying Cedar Fair is a bad idea, don’t underestimate these execs working out a deal. From what I read, Cedar is talking. These front office guys have potential to get out with a huge sum of money, and they most likely don’t care about selling out

I am sorry it comes across that way, but all the points I brought up I think are very strong points of why it won’t happen. There could be some sort of deal if CF did decide to sell off some of their smaller parks, but there’s no way they’re buyout the entire company.

The Point, Kings Island, Knotts, etc. Getting involved with Six Flags in ANY way would just be stupid for them.... Quality is always better than quanity... and that's what sets Cedar Fair parks apart and above Six Flags anyway.

I think this is the concern of everyone who favors Cedar Fair, and truly see’s six flags for what it is, and what it’s track record is historically. Involvement with six flags is concerning as you pointed out. I personally wish they’d not combine or be sold off to the other for a number of reasons we wouldn’t see until years later, and I think those changes would far outweigh the conveniences of having to purchase only one pass/membership, dining plan, and drink plan. The financial aspects of this, and the fallout long term are reasons I would not favor a buyout, or a six flags controlled monopoly. Quality will be a thing of the past where the legacy Cedar Fair parks are concerned should six flags be running both chains, which I realize is not what Taylor is saying at all, but can you imagine if six flags had actually acquired sea world/the Busch parks? Ugggh, and that is the same way I’d feel of them acquiring or running the Cedar Fair parks in the nightmare scenario.

Valleyfair doesn't have many areas to expand to. It has two main problems: 1. Since it's too close to the flying cloud regional airport, the FAA gets to decide the maximum height for all rides. 2. The nearby Minnesota River floods nearly every year, often putting a large part of the parking lot or even Renegade and Excalibur under water. These factors make it a risky park to invest into. Also, I don't think cedarfair would part with valleyfair as valleyfair and cedarpoint were the original two parks in the chain and selling the park would feel like turning on their history

I live a few hours from Darien Lake and I can say through many trips, there is very little quality there. Outside of Tantrum which is the smoothest ride, but very short and has the land to expand which they did not use, every other ride is so rough. Mind Eraser, Predator, Viper, even Ride of Steel which broke down so many times last time I was there, the forst half of the day it went lioe 5 times. Six Flag def needs to work on quality and I doubt Cedar Fair will merge or they both will fall

Six flags stock might be worth less, but they have a higher market cap which means there worth more. There worth $1B more than Cedar fair.

You can figure out the number of shares by diving the total market capitalization by the share price. That wont tell you the proportion of common to preferred stock prices though.

When you look throughout the history of cooperation based amusement parks you will find two things. 1) History often repeats itself, and 2) The connection between situations is quite striking to the point where it looks like everything is coincidental.

Comparing the individual share prices of two companies makes basically no sense as a company's share price by itself is essentially meaningless without indication of that stock's past performance. And if you want to figure out how many shares are on the market for a given company, simply divide the market cap (total value of a companies outstanding shares) by the share price. Six flags (though it has a lower individual share price) has a higher market cap than Cedar Fair. Though Six Flags may have more debt between the two companies, they are a much larger company than CF and would likely take the lead if any merger were to occur.

Cedar Fair is like freakin' Disney next to Six Flags.... I can't think of anything worse than the six flags logo attached to Cedar Point or Kings Island... I think if Cedar fair ever feels in a pinch, they may sell off some of their smaller parks.. but I can't see them letting go of Cedar point ever... and I'd say they'd be hard pressed to part with Kings Island.... they've wanted their hands on that park for the longest time, it being so close to Cedar Point and really their main competition.... I don't see them letting anyone else have it. Now, they may sell something like Michigans Adventure and parks like that... if they had to.
