It's like a little spa that makes them literally wring themselves out like a soaked towel as a literal defense mechanism. Oh, and we do this FOUR TIMES, then they aren't worth doing it again and their lifespan has been cut so we end their miserable existence. AND THEN we proceed to package their corpses for devouring. Pretty ethical huh? much better than just killing them after only one milking, much more efficient this way. (Notice how none of that makes it better sounding.)

The question for me isn't even if the snails die at the end, but how "more ethically" they consider this whole operation to be. They've only found a way to produce more slime before killing the snails, by exposing them to an stressful environment. It more or less "extends the torture", rather than minimizes it.

Yeah, I think the point they were making is that they don't kill the snails in order to get the slime. This way, they get more slime per snail because they're alive making it rather than just getting the slime that they release when they die. this method uses fewer snails for the same amount of slime and they can also be sold as food like always has been the case before slime beauty products. how does anyone find this operation bad? that same snail would before be 3 snails 2 for slime and 1 for food for the same amount of materials. they are food, to begin with so no matter the other uses they would always be killed to be eaten the same for milk cows. they will also end in a burger and just get to live a lot longer than normal cows. any farm animal passing away any other way is a waste of resources now that is wasteful and polluting.

This sounds to me like they created a procedure that places the snails into an environment they where they'll feel dangerous enough to release their defenses mechanism. They continue to do this enough times to drain out all bodily fluids until they eventually are too weak to produce any more slime in which case they're killed. It's like a scientific way of sprinkling salt water onto the snail to get it to feel like it's getting water tortured. Look I get what they're to say but lets call it like it is. it's a better mouse trap. It's not good for the snails. You've only found a new way to get more slime out before you kill them. Don't make it out to sound like you're doing the snails a favor.

It's funny how people draw a very vague line in the sand when something is considered animal cruelty. Yes I know it's a snail and by all scientific standing, I can more than guarantee that they have provided research saying snails don't have pain receptors and so on and so forth, but when you scale up the research- would it be ok if say a duck produced the same enzymes under similar circumstances? What about a horse? Chimpanzee? If the extract works, whatever fine, but it's torturing and stressing out the snails, don't paint it as anything but. I could imagine the very same researchers if you place them in the room and sprayed them constantly with a mildly caustic agent to produce I don't know, tears that cure baldness, and claimed it was ethical because the subjects were being fed and they had a room and things to occupy their mind: you're still causing a good amount of pain to create the solution. Rationalizing is an interesting concept to see in practice 😂

Would’ve been a lot better to *not* emphasize how the extraction process doesn’t harm the snails before explaining that they are euthanized anyways, especially considering there’s no proof it doesn’t harm them; nociception in mollusks is not well understood. Regardless of whether it “hurts” or not, the snails are releasing the slime as a defense mechanism, which makes it clear they are distressed by the process; stress can be quite damaging to many creatures. Just be honest and say that the snails are livestock and eventually get harvested once they stop producing enough slime. It’s not that hard. I’m not one of those people who will argue against the industry as a whole, as ultimately the snails are treated well for the vast majority of their lifespan and have a better life than their wild counterparts, but I am against the misleading reporting. It’s good that nothing goes to waste, but as someone who’s fairly interested in invertebrate welfare, I’m also basing my views of the process on the assumption that the method of euthanasia is quick and relatively painless. If anyone knows for sure if the process is humane or just an alternative to freezing- which is slow and painful(imagine having needles forming inside your flesh and stabbing you from the inside, that’s what it’s like due to ice crystals) and has been deemed unethical by some experts- I’d appreciate an explanation, since one isn’t given in the video.

@@johansjournal Snails are part of the planet, my guy. They’re an essential part of the ecosystems they belong to and, like it or not, also provide income that some people rely on. The only thing really up for discussion here is animal welfare, and I believe living creatures should be treated with some level of respect regardless of how intelligent we perceive them to be. Besides, if people are allowed to care about animals that humans made(most dog and cat breeds, city pigeons, and feral animals come to mind, all of which came about as a direct result of human actions), why can’t others care about species that originated in nature? The planet is more than just temperatures. Trying to get on peoples’ cases for not discussing climate change and whatever other manmade bullshit is going on when they’re discussing something that conceptually applies to all animals on earth is kinda counterproductive. It doesn’t matter if the temperature of the ocean gets fixed tomorrow if people don’t care about the creatures living there, it doesn’t matter if every poacher gets caught and executed on live TV if people ignore every other problem being faced by what those poachers hunted. Ultimately, any time an animal is removed from its ecosystem, that ecosystem is weakened and thrown out of balance. Sometimes in more noticeable ways, sometimes in ways humans won’t notice until decades have passed. As such the goal is to encourage people to care for all creatures to some degree, even if they aren’t cute or cuddly or cool or fun to look at. Otherwise the planet will just suffer in different ways, or even in the same ways for different reasons. So, to be blunt, go whine on someone else’s comment, this is a pro-snail zone and there’s nothing you can do about it. Metaphorically you’re getting mad at folks for wasting time doing things other than making plans to deal with dry rot when the issue they’re focusing on currently is wildfire prevention. We can do both, it’s not a one or the other issue. Stop treating it like one.

I just watched a different video about this featuring the same man from 5 years ago and in that video they really hyped up this whole thing but they didn’t say what happened after the mucus is harvested. The video just ended. So out of curiosity I watched this and am very saddened by what I have learned. The other video was some false advertising.

The video linked is very much the process developed in Italy and not the process that COSRx use according to them. If COSRx do use this process for harvesting mucin then they having been lying which would be of great concern on so many fronts. I like to occasionally use the COSRx Advanced Snail 92 All in one cream in the evening as my moisturiser. This although appears "gloopy" to the touch glides effortlessly onto the skin. I find that snail mucin certainly helps with hydration and does gives me a clearer softer skin tone. As for skin aging I think it would be very difficult to prove any one particular product I use helps with that unless I used it consistently without other products. I don't use products that I am aware are produced in a way that involves animal cruelty OR whose profits are directed towards companies who sanction animal testing. I think however, that there is an awful lot of hypocrisy, which I loathe, with regards to animal cruelty as many may not use skincare produced in such a manner but wouldn't bat an eyelid knowing that some of their medication/drugs are tested or even produced directly in a manner involving animal cruelty. I personally don't believe my health justifies cruelty to another creature and don't think I am any more important to this world than they are. I accept we all have differing opinions and each of us has to answer to our own conscience wherever that may lead.

Have you found anywhere where cosrx actually disclose how they get the mucin? Cause I think they are lying, I can't find transparent info from them anywhere on this apart from them saying it doesn't harm them (and the way cosrx has refered to giving their snails a spa makes me wonder if it is the same machine as these guys also pertain that the acidic solution does not harm the snails). If they actually were getting the mucin from just letting the snails roam around on a meshwith no stimulus they would be getting so little out of them that the prices definately would be luxury.

@@Tsuruchi_420 Yeah right, you didn't hear what she said about their food? They feed them cabbage spinach and a "mixture" of flours from soya and corn and other stuff. Well soya and corn it is produced mainly in USA and China and they are genetically modified! Well don't expect to be the other way around because simply the globally demand amount cannot supply those huge amounts. If you are not growing your self your corn and soya then everything from the rest is cancerogenic, stay away from from them. You want snails? Go to nature and pick up few from your grandmother farm or in forest. Do not trust anything that's coming from an animal farm even if it's labelled Organic.

@@warrior4999 dude, genetic modified plants just get DNA from different plants grafted into their own, some get DNA from a few species of animals too, none of Wich are carcinogenic or whatever, and you're right, without genetic engineering large amounts of grain could not me produced to the scale we need to feed everyone, so it's not only non-carcinogenic, but also nescessary

The machine is an encapsulating humidifier. It increases the humidity which in turns help snails produce additional slim. If you notice after a pouring rain snails tend to be more active because their glands produce additional slim.

They said explicitly they use acid to make an environment for the snails to produce more slime as a defense mechanism, though. And if you notice, those snails were producing WAY more slime than snails after rain. So it isn't just an encapsulating humidifier.
@ElysetheEevee
@ElysetheEevee Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's not that at all. It may humidify at first to clean them, but unless you're into acid rain, the second part is definitely not harmless.
