I lost a 25 year friendship with someone who was a lapsed Catholic when I met him. But for the last 5 years of our friendship, he fell into the Evangelical world, and almost like magic, fell into the world of conspiracy theories as well before tripping down the QAnon rabbit hole. I couldn't take listening to it anymore, so we became more and more distant until we just lost contact with each other. His personalty change during that time was heartbreaking.

I am a Christian but I stay away from conspiracy theories.

Politicising their church is going to turn off a lot of people over time, particularly the young.

Being an evangelical christian means being a bigot, a racist, a homophobe, a hypocrite, a fascist , a misogynist, etc.

The family of my girlfriend is evangelical. Those people are absolutely nuts. Her dad claims to be living for God, but he has caused so much misery and pain among his family, with his extremist views and rules. The love for his invisible friend seems to be stronger than the love for his family.

I remember when Christianity was about love and tolerance. I was very young then. That iteration of the Church died long ago, in my childhood, permanently coopted by snake oil salesmen, political whackadoodles and nonsensical culture wars.

I thought technically churches are not supposed to take political positions or they might lose their 501(c)3 status.

This is what happens when a group has been taught for decades to follow their "leaders" blindly. I grew up Evangelical, and I couldn't get away from it fast enough. These people are nuts.

Living in fear instead of living in hope. I had a churchmate who moved to the US and now is a fervent QAnon believer, even while denouncing the injustice in the home country lol it's so weird.

As a non American Christian, I noticed this growing trend and hysteria from outside. I could not understand what the heck was going on.

A lot of evangelicals think of church like a country club.

My Grandmother got looped into it as well. She went crazy Evangelical after she cheated on my Grandfather with a preacher.

I went to mass in a very affluent Catholic church in south Reno about five years ago in reverence for my 97-year-old aunt Dorothy. I went with my family because they asked me if I would like to go to mass. The first thing that happened when I got there before mass started was a 10 minute infomercial of a lady talking against abortion. When we got home my aunt asked me how I liked mass. I told her I was not expecting an infomercial on abortion. They haven’t talked to me since. My uncle in law told me he would be very happy never to see me again. We will never see each other again. I’m gay. The rest of my aunts family hate my guts because I had the nerve to speak out. They are hateful bigots.

Who else got really uncomfortable when that tiktok clip was showed?

They’re obviously a very, very, superstitious, gullible group of people. Which makes them extremely easy to manipulate.

My worry is that they'll believe they have to execute the end of days, and impose it on EVERYONE.

They should make critical thinking classes required learning in schools. But all the red states would ban it.

One time I wore a Joe Biden shirt to my college bible study and I was genuinely scared. I was treated with sarcasm and everyone was condescending and rude, accusing me of trying to make trouble or make some kind of political statement. It was just the shirt I happened to put on that morning. That was a big mistake to say the least

I have a friend who struggled with drugs for most of his young life. About 6 years ago he got clean but became religious ("born-again" he would say). Within about a year of getting off drugs he really started to get into conspiracy type thinking. At this point, it has become so bad that most people who know him think he would have done better staying on the drugs.

my mom is one of those evangelicals and she has so many books abt how to see the signs of the end of the world. and it's rly frustrating trying to talk to her abt the problems in the world cuz she just brushes it off and is like 'its the end times' or 'this world is not our home'

I had a older "friend" who was a born again Christian. She did a lot of Un-Christian like things to me growing up. She was the type that believed that if you don't believe in what she believed it gave her the right to hurt said person. It put a very bitter taste in my mouth towards Christianity & I will never ever believe in god. What she did had the opposite effect in what she wanted....

I was born and raised in a conservative, catholic part of Poland, but this is a completely different level.

If you've ever known an evangelical, you know that the answer to this question is that someone told them to believe it. It's pathological in nature. I grew up with an evangelical father and I was drawn to get a PhD in clinical psychology partially to understand the man.

As an atheist who was forced to go to church every Sunday come hell or high water until the day I turned 18, I can say that churches WERE better when they were apolitical than they are now. When I was a kid in Sunday school we were taught that we were the children of God and that God is love. If the church erred in any direction, it was in it's unwavering devotion to ending the Vietnam war, but nearly all churches were anti-war when I was a kid in the 60s and 70s. The straw that broke the whole "church's camel's back" for my son was that the junior high and high school kids were being called *"Warriors for Christ,"* which TOTALLY ticked us both OFF! Neither of us approved of the whole "War on Terror." One can't just declare war against a feeling, for Pete's sake! It's like declaring war on _ennui,_ it just can't be done! The eventual outcome of all the death, destruction and damage of the last 20 years has been sickening, and *predictable!* Every other country who has declared war on Afghanistan for CENTURIES has found it to be a hopeless money pit where nothing is ever accomplished.

Thank you Trump for being so incompetent you gave us the House, The Senate and the Presidency. He is the best thing that ever happened for the Democrats. Let's hope he runs again.

My parents go to church twice a week for as long as my memories and my father doesn’t see the irony in refusing to wear a mask to protect others. I don’t bring it up. Is it my fault for avoiding active influence or is it self-preservation to avoid that conversation? Avoiding- hmmmm.

I live in a cultural Catholic European country where churches are mostly empty and the faithful that attend it are mostly elderly people. Evangelicals are coming now to my country and are mostly trying to captivate immigrants and other vulnerable people. Getting their hard earned money … 😞

I am an evangelical Christian from Trinidad and Tobago . I am sorry for the way these Christians behave and I could assure you that not all of us are like that but we do believe in end times and also please don't let a few spoil apples spoil the other bunch. They are good Christians out there in other parts of the world and also in your country.

As a spiritual person who loves Jesus and his peace and acceptance. This is so sad . It is so SO concering how so many people are literally brainwashed. The fact that these people are literally idolizing Trump like he is some kind of messiah that will "save" the people or whatever is so um-biblical and totally blasphemous. Also yeah, it is sad but I feel like a lot of these people would shun Jesus if he was here physically on the earth today. He was a humble loving man who accepted and took in criminals, prostitutes and the other outcasts of society and loved them unconditionally. This "Thank God for Trump" and "Jesus is my King, Trump is my President" is so wrong to me. No man should be compared to Jesus like that.

I am a Christian who doesn’t subscribe to a sub religion such as Catholic or evangelical… I’m ashamed of my kind but I understand it… the religious model is based around ‘follow without question’. Not just your God, but your human pastors. I do think they got this wrong though. Most church leaders are NOT passive. They pander to their congregation just like Fox News or Newsmax etc. The ppl want to hear a specific thing and without those ppl they have no job. They give them what they want to hear. It turns into this cyclone of beliefs. Even if you don’t buy into a thought 100% chances are you will still get swept up in the rhetoric. The other pastors teach shame and fear. Fear is what leaves those cracks open for ppl like Tucker Carlson to creep in.
