I work at an Under Armour and although I agree it's a bit of a high price tag, we've been selling out of every colorway of the Currys like crazy, and this is an LA store. Numbers wise, they do great in store. And as far as Flow's durability goes, it was originally made for road running so it's more durable than one would think despite the appearance of its wear and tear.
@saiken811
@saiken811 Жыл бұрын
I could be wrong but the motions in running and basketball are quite different though, one is with constant single direction and the other involves a lot of sudden stops and turns. Maybe that's why the outsole isn't as durable when it's comes to basketball?
@bjonwong
@bjonwong Жыл бұрын
@@saiken811 you're absolutely right for the most part! The only thing I'd say is unlike rubber outsoles that are only so thick that once they grind away, they're gone, Flow is a single piece silicone foam, so once that "tread" wears away, it's still the same tacky material. Of course they might not function the same on the hardwood, but if you wanted to use them outdoors, they still grip like crazy because cement doesn't rely on tread as much.. the foam is still gonna dig into the ground (I can tell you that first hand from my balded UA Futr Xs) But yeah as far as just appearance goes, they're gonna look destroyed so most people probably won't be into that especially they're expensive Currys

I dont think there is nothing wrong with changing the tech, I think thats great actually. @@JAHRONMON Objectively.. the curry line is the worst signature line in basketball history when it comes to aesthetics! The curry 1s were promising. If i could buy the 1s in Blackout, i would right away but the rest is just thrash in terms of design. From the 3s to the latest release, they basically look like bulky socks with soles. Hideous! Just have a look at the curry 7s π day. They've been running with the same silhouette since the curry 3s with minor iterations. And if it was only with the curry line but it was the same with Cam Newton's and The Rock's signature line. Cam's CN1 was pretty dope and the rock's deltas were great but then, the design just got worse with each release. Chinese Brands have definitely gotten better and i'd rather buy a pair of Li-Ning, Peak or Anta instead of a UA Curry. Take a look at Peak's webstore and you'll see that, while ripping off UA's Curry line, Peak have managed to design a better looking Curry Signature* than Under Armour.

feel you on this!! the pricing should be geared towards kids so that it can compete with the shoes at $120-130 price range. also something i noticed with the Currys: for my personal preference with Low shoes, i like when the collar and tongue of the shoe lock my feet in. like Kobes 5-11, Puma Clyde Pros, most PGs, Dame 5s. for some reason i always have a little too much ankle room in the currys i’ve tried (curry 6, 8, and 9). maybe it’s to give room for curry’s ankle braces but not sure! could just be me tho!

I think you were spot on with the price issue. Get consumers in the shoe at $100-120 and make them fall for the brand. My youngest son’s favorite player used to be steph and that was his first signature shoe about 5 years ago. We had less than a great experience and have only bought Nike for both boys since. When I splurged on jordan 36’s, the thought was it’s Jordan brand/Nike and has great reviews. Saw that curry 8/9’s had great reviews but when I saw $160 for ua it stopped me dead in my tracks. It’s not even a brand that my kids want so the price would have to be right to make that leap. Especially when I know kds and lebrons will be atleast half price at some point. (Lebron 19 lows were just $80 plus 20% off if you can deal with the worst colors).

Have the same sentiments with the Curry brand. Durability should always factor the pricing, the Curry 8 and 9 can lose consumers because of the flow tech 's lackluster durability. Great overall performer but not everyone can afford the 8s or 9s at a consistent basis. Tbh, I'm so scared to use my pair because I wanna preserve the sneaker. 😅 Seeing the leaks of the Curry 10s, and Flowtro 1s , I hope it doesn't lead to what happened with Adidas - using boost over and over again without tweaks.

Hot take! But I agree to this. For context, I put under Armour as one of the best for performance basketball shoes (during the era of the anatomix spawn and clutch fit drive- these were my go to shoes and sitting on third were kobe 9’s and Jordan xx8) and I was hyped for the Curry’s. The only time I really considered buying curry’s were curry 1 and 2- however around where I’m from these were not accessible. The last time would also be the curry 4, but just couldn’t due to price. Most of the basketball shoes I buy are always way below retail, and very rarely I buy retail price. So that 160 is a no go for me. 40 Bucks and I’ll try the new currys. I’m guessing that the higher price may allow for a greater profit margin for the retailers. Sneaker brands are really fighting for shelf space. Nike is King, Adidas command more shelf space now thanks to Ye so at this point Under Armor really has to give retailers a good reason to give them space vs their competition. A higher profit for the retailer might be their in.

Under Armour allowed me to return the I got a full refund; but come on UA; you have to do better! UA are downplaying how bad the 9's durability issues really are, several contacts had the same issue as me with the torsion plate breaking through the flow cushioning system and as a long term Curry shoe fan/customer (I've owned all but the 5's), I have been left feeling pissed off at UA! Yes they gave me a refund, but I took that money and bought the Nike Zoom Freak 4's. So when i got the curry 9, and they started to hurt my foot on the first run i was really disappointed. I’ve been wearing his shoes for like 5 years now simply because they just fit my wide foot the best. But with the price point increase and to me the decrease in durability. I wouldn't agree on tech changes but I totally agree on the price tag problem. You can get them for on the sale at more reasonable prices... theoretically. Don't know how it looked in US but in Poland (and I've heard Europe generally) they are hardly available even at the base price and sizes available on sales are total laughter.

Just got the Curry 4 More Magic - love em but fits more like a low top, really no ankle support like the Curry 1 & 2. Also got the Curry 8, very little rear ankle support - why? The Curry 1's are my favorite. Also, personally prefer the SC logo over the "three" logo.

Curry 8, 9 and 4 flotro are my all time fav baseball shoes. I am always a Nike fan but Nike just don’t have any good basketball shoe since Kobes. Decided to try Curry 8, didn’t like it when I first tried it on because it’s so different from Nikes shoes. However, after a few week I fail in love with it. I guess everybody has different taste for cushioning and tractions.

Its definitely pricing. I mean why would i pay 160 for a curry when i can basically get the same performance from the flow futr x for about half the price and then when you look at other brands they have as good if not better tech say adidas or puma and in some cases even their budget lines look nicer and they are available anywhere. Plus ua lost me many times when you know they can give us as consumers great cushion and traction and reasonable material's but instead choose to give us cushion that feels like bricks with performance flaws in multiple colourways in worldwide runs. They're not isolated incidents

Hey man, nice video I do agree with you on steph's shoe's price it's really expensive. This is coming from an individual that has a fulltime job, I imagine the kid's that would like to play on steph's signature shoes but cannot because of the price it has, brings me back to my student days where I have to look for cheap alternatives for shoes so that I can play basketball on tournaments in my local area.

Interesting poiints, but I disagree. By putting the Curry in the Jordan price range is letting people know UA sees Steph Curry as valuable as Lebron and Jordan. A lower price point does not entice people to buy a shoe that does not look good. People are still buying Jordans years later because the design visuals were and still are fire. If the Curry line had the visuals of the Curry 4, and the performance of the Flow Tech shoes, we wouldn't be having the conversation. So it is a design (meaning visual) problem that they are having, IMO. Peace.

Steph and his shoes just don't have the pull needed to sell shoes that Jordan or LeBron have. A lower price would absolutely entice people to buy a shoe if it's a great performer.

1-4 looked great especially fitting the branding of UA, which I can be more forgiving and I tend not to care about off court appearance anyways. On court they looked great... UA should take notes from AE1 release from adidas recently which I think did a great job at making a great looking performer with the marketing/visuals to match.

I 100 percent agree it is premium price for a non durable product. There budget shoe the Sz7s are amazing quality and comfort for a really great price! All they would have to do is beef up the silhouette and tech slightly in that shoe, give it a few special colourways and boom mid range/priced Curry ahoe that would sell!

Facts. Everything you say is true. In addition, when I walk into UA outlet stores, they rarely have Steph signature models. Recently I walked into a UA retail store and they didn't have any Curry 4 Flotro available. Neither does the website. They did a good job at the $140 price point, but if I can't buy it, then they can't obtain me as a customer.

I don't think the tech part is as important. Under Armour doesn't have a foam coimpound that's as ubiquitous or beloved as Zoom Air is to Nike, they might as well keep changing it up until they find something that really works. Otherwise the shoe can't really be that different year to year, and there's not much point to it existing in that case.

UA missed their mark from about 7 years ago, when Steph was changing the game and making a name for himself. Shame how UA didn't capitalize on it with a consistent main line and possibly a budget model line. Not to mention I'd steer clear from UA on other products since it seems overpriced too. Horrible marketing and pricing.

@@JAHRONMON in hindsight, I would never sign with UA for shoes. I see what ANTA has offered Klay I see what Li-Ning has offered Wade I see what Peak has offered Lou Williams Puma`s made some certified bad boys and my main rotation involves a pair of And1s right now so UA is right at the bottom end of my priorities for shoes, much less bball stuff. Ive been wearing Currys' shoes for years, I agree that in the earlier years they were downright horrible, but under the new Curry brand they've been downright great. The flow tech durability is questionable for some people, but ive found that if you just wipe them down with your hands after a game or practice or whatever, they can last for a season or two.

I think the takes on the Curry 8s and Curry 9s is completely off. The issue with the Curry 9s isn't the price, it's the availability. It's hard to find Curry 9s at Footlocker or finish line at physical stores. Footlocker and other stores didn't get Curry 9s on its website until the end of the NBA season.
