why study religion? (as a non-believer)

I don't personally believe that a dualistic (non-material) God exists. And I find the God's of specific religions even harder to believe. But, I still think studying religious texts is worthwhile, here's why.

I agree with you. I am also an atheist, but I like to learn about different perspectives 🙌🏼

Agree on all points. I would recommend a short parable called "The skylark and the frogs" which I found in a book "The Making of a Counter Culture" by Theordor Roszak. The story stayed with me and it comes up whenever I think about my relationship with religion.

@@IdeasInHat yes, the parable aside, the book is also interesting. It's based on a proposition that during the 60s and 70s a cultural and spiritual revolution happened in the USA and the world. We are not even aware of its proportions since we still kind of live in its echoes.

@@Ree00012 brother , picking verses out of context to show what ?? i can easily google search verses from the bible that would make you cringe , if confused please research more about the verses , quran is a wonderful book revered by 2 billion muslims and memorised cover to cover by millions. hope you are able keep your ignorance and hatred aside and actually read and find out the message given in Quran

Information is non-physical. This can be demonstrated because the same information can be held by different mediums. You can write information down to see it, intone the same information to hear it, etc... so the information itself exists, but not as a material object. The meaning of my comment on your video is an idea beyond the mere letters and words as they appear. This idea exists. It's not physical.

Why can't different physical mediums represent each other with a high degree of similarity? Why do we need to add a new abstract entity?

@@IdeasInHat maybe there is only one basic physical spectrum with many different manifestations. But that doesn't refute the notion of information being non physical
