Ah yes Lauren Faust, such an amazing writer…who only wrote the first 3 episodes… G4 was successful because most if not all the writers were good. G5 does have some good writers, like how Misty’s character arc is done splendidly well especially on Chapter 5. Easily the weakest character is Hitch, whose entire character got erased after the movie.

This is true because there was no collaboration between the movie staff and the two shows, IDW comics, video games or even the toys. Still waiting for Sunny to defeat Sombra for the 4th or 5th time according to one toy card. The director and writers of the movie admitted there was no plan going forward. I definitely agree with this. I wish I didn't have to keep saying "this reminds me of a better G4 episode"; I'm really trying to give this show the benefit of a doubt because it's only fair. However, when there are characters that just don't learn anything and the writers are trying so hard to make it seem that they did, I feel really frustrated with that.

That is truly the main reason as to why I really dislike Sunny; I don't want to say 'hate' because using that word now is considered a death sentence (lol). Anyway, I just don't like how Sunny's perspective is just constantly pushed on others and everyone has to automatically agree without them being subconsciously aware about it; they aren't allowed to make individual, personal decisions and Sunny is usually in charge. I just wish there was a time that the G5 Mane 6 worked together in a way where it looks like real teamwork and not just a one-pony job with the power of magic combining in her pseudo-Alicorn abilities.

The same Sunny who was supposed to be a freak and outcast.

That's a possibility. I don't want to spoil about what happened in MYM if you want to decide to watch it, but it makes sense.

Unfortunately, this is just me, but Izzy has gotten worse to a degree. In TYT, she has a song called the "Trash Song" as to how creative objects can be found in the dumpster; the only reason why she does this is because she was trying to fix Sunny's lantern (another continuity gap from the MYM special and this, btw).

@@turtletum and in same episode she ran Posey down in the street GTA style and stole a plastic earring for that stupid lamp. I hate that episode passionately. But it made me 100% sympathetic toward Posey.

Pinkie was definitely toxic in the show at times, especially emotionally manipulative or really pressuring towards someone's actions while not giving them a chance to freaking breathe. So yeah, I won't deny that at all. Also, I don't understand why Hitch is the only law enforcement around in Maretime Bay; Sprout is doing long-term community service, so he's not doing anything. It's really annoying that Hitch has to do all this work and yet Sunny is a literal (pseudo) ALICORN.

@@turtletum Yeah, i remember the quizz contest that Twilight and Pinkie participated at and Pinkie was completely disregarding Twilight desire to win the contest and throw random answers to questions she actually know she doesn't know the answer. And yet Twilight was portrayed as the villain for getting rid of her. Just because Pinkie just wanted to have "fun". But that doesn't give her the right to undermine other peoples goals. Or the episode with the donkey. Lol, there is not even a mayor in Maretime Bay, Hitch is literally the only representation of law and governement there.

@@turtletum Well, that depends if you speak in term of raw powers or political power. raw power, Sunny win, even if that's debatable since i have never seen her do anything else beside bubles. She never cast once a offensive spell. And Hitch was quite efficient against Opaline. Political, Hitch is 1st one because there is no one else above him and Sunny isn't seen as the de facto leader of ponies, role that she actually refused. It's not G4 Equestria, in this timeline, being a Alicorne, especially a pseudo one, doesn't make you automatically a princess.

@@turtletum so basically since it's a reboot Luna would be the main character though she has no idea she's the long lost Alicorn she knows that the queen of the sun rules the world but she knows not that it's her sister so maybe via some anonymous tip or a forced quest Luna has to go on many adventures and defend many all in order to gain her once great power along the way she makes friends and enemies while not always a willing hero she succeeded due to her drive to do the right thing in the end.

@@turtletum of course since it's a reboot maybe they don't call her Luna at all instead they give her a different name, and she might be a unicorn who can't do magic then the premiere is her stopping some villain and then gaining her magic back

I agree with Argy and Sunny needed more time between the two because it’s something that makes it clear that she’s been heavily affected by her father’s passing. I also do like that Misty’s realism within her character development is crucial, especially in Chapter 5. However, while Misty has actually changed, Sunny hasn’t done much to actually change. The points in my video just represents how Sunny acts with others. Hitch is a great character in the film, but the only that changed about him was his personality and some principles that he has. Regardless of that, Hitch is still loyal, kind and reasonable in my opinion. He hasn’t done so much that Sunny did wrong.

Even though her character still got me a bit annoyed, I won't deny that Sunny in ANG is much better. It probably could've helped if her ANG personality stayed within the show, but NOPE.

I love this! Thank you for you thoughts. :3 Being an Alicorn is literally useless now, so it's really weird that the show (specifically Tell Your Tale) is trying hard to make sure that's Sunny's arc. That arc being Sunny is scared to be the LAST ALICORN. Not only was there no indication of her having this difficulty at all and that's one of the main things I hate about it: SHOW, don't tell. Like, if Skyros does exist and there's evidence about Celestia, Luna, Cadence, and/or Flurry Heart, I will flip a table. They could use it as a way to show how "truly important" Sunny is as an Alicorn, which in turn... wouldn't make sense based on what you explained. Twilight struggled so much after turning into an Alicorn from the first Equestria Girls movie all the way to the Season 4 finale; her finding the key to her self worth and being the Princess of Friendship just made me love her more. Sunny...has nothing of the sort. Yes, she wants to help others and make sure that others come to her for support, but...then what's the point of "friendship is magic" if she does everything on her own?? This happens when Sunny fights Opaline (the villain) -- TWICE. My gosh... I need to definitely make a video about this in the future or add it to my G5 retrospect video.

@@turtletum Oh goodness that tell your tale episode… I just… that…. That’s not how it works, at all, or fucking ever 💀. Alicorns are not necessarily a breed/species that can go extinct. They are EARNED the title through some form or way. Thats why it’s called “earn your wings/horn”. Sunny being worried about being the last alicorn is so dumb, and changing the entire lore and canon of alicorns being a whole different species makes my brain hurt. Especially the fact that sunny completely and utterly destroys this lore. Sunny is a born earth pony, a pure blood earth pony, she also never actually gains her wings or horn… because they’re transparent, made of pure magic. Which is all the more confusing. Does she just, harbor alicorn magic?? If so, that means she isn’t an Alicorn, she just holds the power. Like Cozy Glow, she’s a Pegasus, but when she gains the magic in the final arc, she becomes an alicorn, but when she’s defeated and the magic is stripped, she’s not an alicorn. Compared to Twilight and Cadence and the other alicorns when they lose their magic… THEY LITERALLY KEEP THEIR WINGS AND HORN! Which all in all, concludes that Sunny isn’t a true alicorn, she just has the magic, which she gained at the end of the movie when she released the magic of the ponies… the alicorn villain saying shit about her being just like her and that she’s all alone or whatever at the end is so so dumb by then because by all intents and purposes, sunny isn’t an alicorn. I just… I don’t understand this lore. I don’t get it. I would get it if it’s OWN canon and ITS OWN WORLD but it’s not. They literally change preestablished lore because the writers couldn’t think of something fun do with it. Well writers here’s something! Maybe make it so that Sunny has to learn how to actually earn her wings, as in, become an actual alicorn, not have the glowy crap, and then, write it so that Sunny has to retrieve and revive Equestrian history to bring it back to what Equestria was or something, and how she feels pressure now having to be an alicorn and represent the importance of that title and how it’s important. I don’t know, something that can have Sunny learn the importance of an alicorn, and thus, have it so we actually can sympathize with her when she realizes the pressure that comes to her title and how she needs to revitalize the culture that was once destroyed. I don’t know, just make the viewers give us any reason to sympathize with your MAIN CHARACTER instead of making her someone so arrogant and completely unbearable. The fandom has been trying to still figure out if Celestia and Luna were naturally born Alicorns and by whom. Maybe that's how G5 kinda got away with destroying G4 lore based on unanswered questions, however, then Flurry Heart comes in, so I really don't know anymore... In my opinion, yes. Twilight Sparkle turned into an Alicorn because she knew about true friendship and not Starswirl. Sunny turned into an psuedo Alicorn because she brought everyone together in unification. Now, I think Twilight earned it more because friendship is what literally and figuratively defeats evil in their nation.

I’m happy for you and I’m glad that Sunny is relatable to you. I don’t want to change anyone’s opinion about her character, but I do believe that Sunny’s flaws need to be taken into consideration. Either way, if you like Sunny, I respect that 🎉

Exactly! It definitely has its problems in regards to themes and morals within G5. They do not know if friendship is magic or if magic is friendship, so they keep pushing both of these ideas together. Unfortunately, G4 lore is pretty much "irrelevant" based off of what is implemented in the G5 lore and world building, not to mention the passing down unique Elements of Harmony; they were destined to be every single generation of 6 friends. In order to not repeat the same thing, EVERYTHING is flip flopped. I need to make a video about this, thank you. 🎉

I don't *hate* G5 because that's a strong word; I've disliked it since the beginning and it's not just because "oh noooo it's ruining the legacy of G4". There are multiple reasons from the execution to the mediocrity that this entire generation pushes down our throats. Personally, I believe that majority of the fandom is just excited because they don't want to be detached from Friendship Is Magic. To be fair, some think that the show is great or even better than G4 itself. Anyway, I just do not see the potential anymore besides the character development in comic issues, but even that isn't going to be enough for me at this point. Even now, I only like half of the film; the only character I prefer is Hitch because despite his changes, I was able to adjust to his new personality. Sunny is my least favorite and she's basically the definition of G5 - obnoxious, impatient and not willing to change for the better.

This video was never intended to hate Sunny. I know that Hasbro is trying to inspire others, but they already did that very well in Friendship is Magic. The writing of her character is just not something I agree with; I like to analyze characters whether or not I like them, but I don't *hate* her. That's a strong word.

I point out the flaws in her character, as much as I do with the show itself. If it seems like I am contributing to the problem, then please don’t watch my channel because I’m just trying to talk about my own perspective. Also, Sunny turning into an Alicorn was an issue that I needed to address because that’s not how a character grows; it takes time and to me, Sunny wasn’t ready.
