I remember when the notes first changed (the 50 Frank note was the first one to come out). I was in the train and someone in the compartment next to mine had the new note and everyone was so excited, it was given around and talked about and all in all a very fun and memorable moment (especially bc usually no one ever really talks to strangers in the train). The person eventually got their note back but the conversation in the whole carriage continued and it was such a great train ride! Loved the vid, such great visuals too❤️

As swiss I think that a big part of missing hero's that people who served the country, for example the 4 swiss war generals we had, they all work under the principe of "servir et disparaitre" - to serve and disappear.

As a swiss, i liked your video, it was well researched. One thing to note though. I agree that the fact that no person is shown on the notes is interesting. However, I would attribute it to someone else that 'swiss exceptionalism' - it has cultural reasons. It is not true, that the Swiss history lacks power and influential people. They were just not seen as our hero's but oppressors. Switzerland has a long history of successfully rebelling against authoritarian rule. Did you know that Switzerland didn't had a king since the 13th century? Switzerland survived by decentralizing power through federation and relying on consensus for national level decision making. This structures practically make it impossible for a strong man to lead. In Switzerland, if something gets too powerful or influential people will hate it. Cheers!

I'm only halfway through the video but man, I just have to say this - I cannot get over how _gorgeous_ the visuals and editing are in your videos. Combine that with the consistently interesting subject matter, tight structure and smooth narration and these videos soar into a league of their own. The hands thing is really cool, and while most are obvious representations (an orchestra conductor holding a baton for organisation, grasping hands for collaboration etc) the scientific expertise one is very cool in my opinion. It's a a depiction of the "right hand rule" which is a shorthand way of remembering which axis are labelled X, Y and Z in 3D space, which is important to know since there are two ways to "order" those labels and using a mixture of both makes a mess of things

William Tell has a 30 year run on Swiss stamps at the beginning of the 20th century, so that image is arguably even more present to the average person than currency. What else do Swiss stamps say about Swiss exceptionalism?

This actually makes more sense given the way bills are exchanged. No one holds them by both short ends and extends them horizontally, they present them vertically.

i think it’s also necessary to note the importance of graphic design and art and culture in switzerland. the swiss gov invests a lot of money in art and culture such as the annual competitions like the Swiss Art/Design Awards that are at the same time as ArtBasel and organizations such as ProHelvetia. in the history of graphic design the swiss style is very prominent (like at the NYC subway system with their use of Helvetica). the graphic design of the SBB CFF FFS (train national train company) and the new Swiss passports designed by the studio RETINAA are also insane

0:22 it isn’t alone in these many regards; I have a 2$ bill from Bermuda 🇧🇲 from January 1st 2009(yes, the day the bill itself was printed on is specified) and it’s oriented vertically, has a beautiful male eastern bluebird on one side and a dope statue of Neptune in front of a clock head bell tower, and had anti-counterfeit features a good few years ahead of its time.

The notes even got an augmentet reality feature if you download the app that the SNB made for them. I dont know if any other country got that.

Can confirm, spotting the security features was a game we did as kids. Now with the new note I haven't tried or looked them up yet but will definitely someday. Cool video, thanks! The only thing is, that we arent that patriotic as americans or other nationals. So most swiss people never really think about the "helvetic nation-mythos" (or how it is depicted or even what is depicted on our notes). At least not cosciously.

Hi, first off all: I really like your videos and I like it that you branch out into more abstract ideas worth explaining, just like this one. However I feel like the style of your videos embraces more of a narrative story-telling type, than an abstract information conveying style. The absolutely beautiful kind of dystopian yet melancholic vibe of the stylized animations really allow me to feel myself in a room, or with a person, to let my imagination run wild. With more abstract themes though it gets harder for me follow, since the animations tickle my imagination - however there is little to imagine since it leans towards factual information delivery. Your video on the atomic city in the us for example actually made me feel scared watching, since the weird impending doom of nuclear radiation transpired so well to me as a viewer. Same goes for the soviet bus stop vidoe, I could feel myself sitting there waiting for the bus. This video in contrast though left me a bit untouched: i now know what swiss bank notes look like (and boy look they amazing!) but overall the animation style facilitates a kind of strong emotional attachment which the subject of the video doesn't satisfy. I hope you don't mind a bit of constructive criticism, just an attentive fan expressing his thoughts :)
