Today on Past Gas-- How did the race to breaking 200mph in a production car set the tone for a decade? How did cars like the gorgeous Lamborghini Countach, the Ferrari Testarossa, and the beastly RUF Yellowbird become potent symbols for an unhinged ten years of excess? Pack the trunk with coke, blast some Guns N Roses, throw on the Oakleys… I pity the fool who isn’t ready for an all ’80s, all supercar episode of Past Gas.

I don't know about the Kardashians, but around 2011, I read an article about politics and consumer choice, and Glee was the favorite scripted network show of people self-identifying as very liberal. The same demographic said that their favorite vegetable was kale and the best car was the Prius. Some stereotypes are close to the truth.

Great podcast you have created. I always listen to it and thanks for teaching many car facts and automotive history. Just wanted to clarify that the porsche 959 was actually a competitor to the ferrari f40 and not the testarossa considering both cars were built using group B technology. The porsche 959 also did reach a tested top speed of 197 mph. Ferrari’s top speed claim for the F40 is still very controversial to this day. Thanks again for an amazing episode.

Fun fact from a car nerd (look for my application to be a host, yo!).. The Nardo Ring is named as such because of it's shape, lol. But you are right, in a way: it's circumference is so wide, or uh thicc, that it simulates an "infinitely long straight line". That being said, the tires of cars tested there are subjected to absolutely insane levels of side load, therefore they will typically swear out prematurely before they would on a "real" straight track because of the extra tire scrub.

The PRV engine (not RPV) is actually not a terrible engine. I have one in my Alpine GTA Turbo, but in fairness mine is the 2.5 Turbo version (around 200hp), while the DeLorean had the NA 2.8 with a shitty auto box (although the same engine in the Alpine was 150hp and manual).
