Game Of Thrones rightly gets a lot of stick for the downturn in the quality of writing past season 4 with Season 8 damaging the brand hugely. Put simply the more the show runners David Benioff and D.B Wise moved away from George R R Martin's source material the worse the writing became. But something that i have questioned over the years is why even now does the last season of Game Of Throne in particular cause so much outrage. Well it's because i think a lot of people have forgotten that at it's core, Game Of Thrones was a era defining TV show at one point with excellent writing even when the showrunners made changes from the books, thus why it's downfall hit so much harder. The wasted potential. In this video we take a look at one of these big changes as a case study of one of these better devations from the books.

The main point I wanted to make with this video is I believe part of the reason Game Of Thrones final season and for a lot of people anything post season 5 is so badly disliked isn’t just because the writing was poor and rushed. But it goes deeper than that. At its core game of thrones was one of the best TV shows ever made otherwise it would never have become such a culture phenomenon and that is the core of the issue. Fans knew the show was capable of so much better, so much more. The show runners had proven that they were capable writers, and could make changes from the book without it being godawful as the battle beneath the wall shows for the most part. When they cared and still had love for the project. Thus I believe the reaction wasn’t just down to the poor and rushed writing but the knowledge from viewers that the show itself with writers who still cared was capable of doing something so much better than what the last few seasons ended up as. What game of thrones became will always be a disappointment to me but what making the missing character videos has made me realise is that despite all that, at it’s very core was this amazing tv show we all loved, as much as I love the books I doubt I would be her today making videos about it and discussing it with a lot of you guys. It’s very easy to forget that fact sometime. I just wish that if the show runners had truly lost their passion for the project they had handed it off to new writers and took a more executive producer hands off approach. I have not had time to watch 3 body problem, but I love the book and I’m hoping that D&D put the same love they put into season 1-4 of game of thrones into it.

Gotta agree, the giant crashing through the gates as Grenn and the lads- one of whom is straight up crying but not going anywhere- recite their vow is probably my favorite sequence in the whole damn show. That ep is just absolutely metal as fuck in general too

Getting tears just thinking about it. One of my favourite scenes. Akin to the Rides of Rohan screaming Death and riding into battle for me.

That last look Jon gives to Grenn 😔 before he goes to defend the gate hit hard. The whole faith militants story piss me off like did anyone see how much trouble they cause the early Targaryens ugh..

In the show somehow Tywin Lannister is a more interesting than compelling character. But still just as brutal as a human being. In comparison to his book counterpart. Still betrayed him negative light but a little bit more humanized.

Season 6 was definitely one of the best seasons (just the last two episodes) Season 7 then has massive problems with logic for the first time: Euron is successful twice with surprise attacks by his fleet - how could that happen? Someone from Dragonstone must have revealed the plans to Euron. Was never explained

Personally I always have a soft spot for the show especially seasons 1 through 4. I watch season 1 that made me read the books before season 2 begin.

No matter all the flaws and issues and terrible writing of the last seasons, its completely not true that some fans were not angry because some of the characters did not end up as they wanted them to. A big white haired one in particular.
