Steve Jobs, one of the greatest entrepreneurs of our times, someone who could not only envision the future but realize it. What problem did he solve? The world's richest foundation, founded by someone whose software has dominated personal computer industry for three decades, what problem has he tackled at the same scale. World's best schools, producing some of the smartest people on the planet, get snapped by e-commerce and technology giants of today. What problem do they end up solving? Prasoon, co-founder and CEO of a one of a kind non profit, billionBricks argues that the biggest problems in the world continue to exist because we are not putting our best minds behind them. Even when we take a stab at solving them, we get satisfied and celebrate small successes in a big way. He validates this with his own work when their social media campaign went viral after his organisation helped just 15 homeless families. Even Ashton Kutcher commented on his facebook, calling their work, 'innovation at its finest'. Was it the 'finest innovation' or was it that there was no other innovation to compete with? To know more about Prasoon and his work at billionBricks, visit www.billionbricks.org or www.weatherhyde.org. Or follow him on twitter at @PrasoonbB Prasoon Kumar, Co-Founder and CEO of billionBricks (bB), is an urban planner and architect with over 10 years of experience in design firms across India, USA, Hong Kong and Singapore. In 2013, he founded bB, a one-of-a-kind non-profit innovation studio that uses design as its primary tool to solve one of the most pressing global problems - homelessness. He works at providing shelter and infrastructure solutions for the homeless and vulnerable which are scalable, sustainable, and able to create opportunities for communities to emerge out of poverty. In 2016, Prasoon led bB to launch its first product, WeatherHYDE which was awarded the A'Design in Social Design. Since 2013, bB has rehabilitated more than 1,800 homeless and vulnerable people in Asia. Chosen as one of Urban Land Institute's 40 under 40 in 2016, he is a recipient of the Focussed Issue Planning Award from the California State APA in 2007, and was shortlisted in the top 5 of the World Architecture News Award. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I buy local/sustainability frown foods without packaging as often as possible. I am a step mom, instead of having children because I don't want to add to the population problem. I spend time lifting others up to follow their creative solutions. It's a choice, how u spend your time thinking doing and spending...every day you can choose to make a difference.

The single biggest improvement in reducing global poverty was China moving to a more market economy, putting hundreds of millions of people to work not on "solving poverty" but on making things people need. Clearly China has a lot going on that is wrong in many areas, but the point is you don't solve poverty by putting smart people to work on poverty. You solve poverty by embracing an economic system that is good at putting people to work.
@prasoonkumar5996
@prasoonkumar5996 5 жыл бұрын
thats a fantastic point Gene McKenna and surprisingly is least talked about. in fact China was the reason why the MDG on poverty reduction could be met. Most non profits and people working on poverty alleviation undermine governments roles (thats because many our corrupt) and look for perfect solutions which probably do not exist out there. You see, China’s success in poverty reduction always comes with a ‘but’.

This guy is a total moron. I could debunk literally everything that he says. He needs a higher IQ to be able to discuss these major issues, but instead he says Steve jobs is one of the greatest minds.. which is a joke.. and asks what he did to change those issues and says nothing... If he had a brain he would think about the bigger picture Both bill gates and Steve jobs did which was connectivity which lead to millions of other people who are also smart to have the ability to help with the issues he wrote on that board. Its not as simple as he tries to make it, and it cant be. This guy should never have done this talk. It was irrelivent to anyone with brain cells.

There are global problems right now, the most important being: lack of food, water, warmth, health and mental stability for each and every individual human. Lesser problems stem from these, including but not limited to: anger, addiction, jealousy, greed, and the abuse of flora and fauna. These problems have a root. Identify and remove the root for the discontinuation of the cycle of problems. The root is currency. Society revolves around currency. Upon eradication of currency the deconstruction of the society we know and hate could begin, providing a good starting point to the reconstruction of the human mindset and society itself. When profit is non existent due to currency being non existent, greed would decrease. Society has conditioned humans to be selfish and defensive of our personal resources as it has forced the majority of us to live in a state of a greed due to profit, in terms of not only finances but also resources. Everything physical is a resource. Greed could be overcome with the removal of ownership of everything and the implementation of shared ownership of the planet and everything on it. A hive mindset could lead to the resources, energy and brainpower of life being focused directly onto solving global problems and making life a pleasant experience for everyone. Rather than being selfish and defensive humankind could be sharing and inclusive. The removal of currency is an impossibility at this point in time as the majority of people will oppose the idea due to having money, alongside the widespread misconception that we need money. Without currency people will wonder how to pay their rent, bills, pay for food, healthcare, and education. The answer is we don't. We are all dwellers of this planet and we all have the equal right to share the resources of the world. Money and society dictate overwise. For this mindset to be able to be implemented into humanity we must await the fall of currency and of society itself. I believe this will never happen as the addiction to currency has overcome that which is inside each and every one of us. We humans believe that we are intelligent, yet we humans act as a parasite as we destroy the host we live on. We humans, being intelligent animals, should be the guardians of our host planet and all life on it. We instead have chosen to be the destroyers of life. Human history shows that we are repeatedly making the same mistakes through the chaos and turmoil. If we have a pet that becomes depressed, what does that tell us? Something in the animal's life is not ok. The majority of us are supressed and we don't even believe it. We treat our pets better than we treat ourselves and our planet due to that feeling of ownership. If we felt like we owned our bodies rather than being our bodies would we take better care of ourselves? If we felt like we owned the planet, would we take care of the existence of life on earth itself, or would we continue to wallow in the filth and decay? $0.02

Robert Boyle's Birthday Jan 25, 1627 Birthplace: Ireland Died: December 30, 1691 Robert Boyle was an Anglo-Irish chemist, natural philosopher, inventor, and physicist. Regarded as the first modern chemist, Boyle is often counted among the founders of modern chemistry. One of the pioneers of the scientific method, Robert Boyle is also remembered for his books, including The Sceptical Chymist, which is viewed as a keystone book in chemistry. Joseph Louis Lagrange's Birthday Jan 25, 1736 Birthplace: Turin, Italy Died: April 10, 1813 Joseph Louis Lagrange was an Italian mathematician and astronomer who made significant contributions to the fields of number theory, analysis, and both classical and celestial mechanics. He served as the director of mathematics at the Prussian Academy of Sciences in Berlin for over 20 years. He later moved to France and became a member of the French Academy of Sciences. lIya Prigogine's Birthday Jan 25,1917 Birthplace: Moscow, Russia Died: May 28, 2003 Ilya Prigogine was a physical chemist remembered for his work on irreversibility, complex systems, and dissipative structures. A respected member of several scientific organizations, Prigogine was honored with the Francqui Prize in 1955. In 1976, he won the Rumford Medal for his work concerning irreversible thermodynamics. His work on irreversible thermodynamics earned him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1977. Helge von Koch's Birthday Jan 25,1870 Birthplace: Stockholm, Sweden Died: March 11, 1924 Helge von Koch was a Swedish mathematician who served as a professor at the Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University College. He is credited with describing a popular fractal known as the Koch curve, which is named after him. Helge von Koch is also credited with writing many papers on number theory. Humankind made great technological feats and breakthroughs in science and other fields, but humanity cannot solve or fix death, poverty, corruption, crime, epidemics, and so on. Well? when it comes to very complicated and complex sophisticated problems mankind is not capable to direct his steps successfully in this manner. Note what this one scripture brings out in the Holy Bible, JEREMIAH 10:23- O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walks to direct his steps. 24- O LORD, correct me. The solution? Only God's Kingdom can fix these problems. God's Kingdom isn't something that is in the heart, it is a real government. Note what this other scripture will bring out of what God's Government/Kingdom will do to human-governments. Daniel 2:44- ''In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed. And this kingdom will not be passed on to any other people, it will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it alone will stand forever.

The best minds in the world aren’t solving world problems because what they are solving is how to accumulate money for themselves which is their priority in this capitalistic world society. I believe that there should be a limit to personal wealth accumulation, that beyond a certain amount is already prohibited. World forum/ leaders should move to a different direction of handling money and agree to impose wealth limit as part of good governance.

Just because we isolate something as to say "this is the problem, and for all problems there is always a feasible economic solution". That is the issue. Mistaking simple thought with complex realities. You can't just "get more food, more water, print more money, reduce emissions". It may help, in the short term. Our systems destroy the planet, green washing practices (eat less meat, "recycle", reduce, drive less) does Diddly in the grand scheme of things. Theres always big polluters, mass consumption among the masses. We dont need simple solutions by some smart people. We need paradigm shifts. But time and time again, the elites have shown they only care about short term profits, maintaining social class differences (and making them more apparent) keeping people asleep to the hellscape/ war field most of the world is becoming. But we cannot realize it because we want to be comfy when we arent bound in slavery for most of our waking hours 😂😢
