This budget paint job couldn't have been more difficult. It's a journey of victory and defeat as K8Lynn and I get the C-10 painted. What a disaster!! We spent more than we planned, took longer than expected, and it came out worse than ever imagined.

Thanks. We’re pretty pleased with this episode, even if we did have a rough month getting it together.

Ya take 2 steps forward and 13 back, that's the Crossthread jig you're doing Jack! 😆 couldn't resist 🤪 Enjoyed the video I know it was a tough time but I'm sure you two will get it done... eventually

Maybe a few things that can help. A scotch brite can't create a flat surface. It conforms too much with the surface. So you will probably need to use sandpaper and a (soft)block to cut it down. Mat black will hide a lot. So part of it will be texture from the previous layers that is showing up. The end result looks like classic dry spray. So you need to go a bit slower and heavier for the last coat so that it's able to flow out.

Thanks for the counsel. Paint is definitely not my strength.

If you had to do cab corners, rockers are pretty much guaranteed

I use those Harbor Freight spray guns professionally daily at work for primer. They usually last three years or more for me (more if I clean them well). Pretty awesome for 20 bucks as opposed to 1,000 for a good topcoat gun.

Yeah, I’ve used them before, but this one absolutely junked out first time out of the box. 🤷‍♂️

Nice...will sanding between coats get rid of your issues?

Well….we’ve been sanding on it, and it’s definitely transformed the look of the truck. Next C-10 episode is gonna be awesome!

If you want some more "practice" on rockers etc. I have a square body suburban that needs some outer rockers i'd be glad to let you try

There is nothing budget about priming with spray cans... The only thing you can do is sand and paint again. Make sure your setup is correct next time before commiting to the whole truck.

You’re not wrong about the cans. That hi-build doesn’t go as far as a normal can. Thought we’d be ahead buying the cans, but it would have been cheaper to buy a gallon. Paint is a necessary evil for me. Not my forte. Thanks for watching.

looks like you used too hot of a hardener.i painted my sons bronco 15 years ago and it looked like bed liner..i am guessing you used cold weather hardener and its warm where you are.

Well, we didn’t use any hardener in the red coat. I do think we found an answer though. Next episode will outline what went wrong. Thanks for watching.
