The blame game is always tough... Do the Cowboys need a new HC? or a new QB? I think you have to consider everything if you're the Cowboys. But as a Cowboys fan, you do have to keep in mind you have a very young, superstar packed filled roster. This team isnt done after this year. Parsons, Lamb, Tyler Smith, Bland, Diggs, Osa, are all top 10 guys and majority of them are on their rookie contracts still. The Cowboys have to figure out their HC/QB and manage the cap space, they'll bounce back. As always, we'll be here to cover the offseason, draft, and camp as it begins later this year.

Tyler Smith is a Guard... but you're old Guard Martin is looking more busted each season and Tyron Smith is not guaranteed to last a season, it was a miracle he made it this season. So that O-line can get a lot worse moving forward. Who knows how Diggs comes back... he could look a shadow of his old self. Bouncing back is a lot more hope than it is reality.

I'd like to add that last TD of the first half in the final 2 seconds off the half qas only possible due to the horse collar PF on Quay that hasn't a horse collar tackle as Quay grabbed the shoulder pad and not the horse collar, also Campbell dropped an int in his hands in the Endzone and the penalty on the one yard line stopped the clock or else the time expires. The last 2 scores for 16 points that dal had qas due to the pack putting in backups on offense and defense and on defense they went to soft zone prevent instead of man press and blitzes they had all game before and run run run up the middle on offense. Basically Dal should've had 10 points at most and Pack could've easily had 60+ if they keep Love in and stay aggressive. Dal needs a new Owner because with Jerry Jones no HC can qin the SB for Dal ever again because Jerry wants complete control. This is y Jimmy Johnson qas fired because he refused to relinquish control so Jerry fired him even after getting all those SB's.

Dallas hasn't had an offensive play caller worth his check. You see kellen Moore bouncing around now. Couldn't win with Herbert who is apparently 10x the QB Dak is. Scott Linehan was ancient football and McArthy won 1 superbowl in 12 seasons with Aaron fricken Rodgers. Dak came from an RPO college system and was never coached to do what is being asked. The play designs are bad as well. They think moving Cee around in motion is some kind of genius idea, when he's the only receiver that's worth his check on the roster. Also zero investment in the running game.

And also that when we played SF during the regular season this year. I THINK HE PANICS IN THESE GAMES. I used to stick up for the way Tony Romo took a lot of abuse in the media saying he was the cause of Dallas' issues in post season losing. I still to this day say Tony Romo was the best guy on Dallas' offense and was doing all he could to get his offense to win. Can't even come close to saying that for Dak.

I have been saying for a while that Dallas tips off too many of its plays based on personnel and formation. One of the things that makes the Shanahan tree so hard to defend is they attack defenses in different ways out of the same formation so it is hard to know what they are running based on it. For example, Dallas will bring in Tolbert than motion him next to the tight end and you know it is a run 90% of the time. You can see defenses moving around and flying to the ball because they know it too.

Almost as bad as ‘3 yards in a cloud of dust, Ground Chuck Knox” I endured way back in the 80’s. Hindsight is 20 - 20.. however.. most of the fans were pounding the table for a solution for the running game.. a solution for LVE going down.. and a solution for losing Diggs for the season! Them not being able to run at will.. or stop the run when it matters is a recipe for losing against the better teams! I certainly didn't want to roll with Pollard as the number one.. Zeke was certainly missed! His production and the ability to get those tough yards was noticed often! Using undersized LB's works great when you are defending the pass.. but its a weakness for stopping the run! The COWBOYS were out coached.. out classed.. out played.. run on and had a lack of accountability effort and discipline! For me.. its coaching.. that matters the most in the playoffs and the GM ( not signing free agents before the deadline )! The common themes for the past 27 years are COACHING issues and GM issues! The rosters have been competitive.. enough to win more than they lose.. and pick at the tail end of the draft every year for their efforts! I'd get rid of Mike and Dan and trade Micha Parsons to the highest bidder.. turn those draft picks into the future! Sure.. it would also help long term if they finished 2-15 too! Idk.. its frustrating watching them continue to repeat the same things over and over every year 😢

I think a few things. When watching the game after this one was done, the qbs just seemed to be playing at a different pace overall. There are open pass catchers on the first 2 plays on this breakdown. To say they are not is to say we dont have a qb that can spot them. There is a pattern with Dak now and it's undeniable in the playoffs and against good defenses that mix things up period. What gets me is when people speak about Dak like there is no pattern developed at all. Are we going to ignore the years of blaming the playcallers across the board and then queue up the receivers not getting open narrative every year? That is exactly what we have done for 7 years now. Not counting his rookie year. Something is off with Dak in these pressure games. Not all big games but most. And yes at times you can see it in his face.
@vrusimov

The problem, and I said so about 8 weeks ago, is the HYPER FOCUS on feeding Lamb the ball. Long term it becomes a detriment to the overall offense AND the quarterback. The Packers are not a good defense. The ball needs to go where the ball needs to go. Lamb has to learn that it's about more than just yards and touchdowns. It's also about the frigging headspace. He got bullied in that first half. At the end of the day it is the issues that the Cowboys never solved that got them: 1. Not being able to run. They need a bell-cow running back and a commitment to pounding the ball. 2. Not being able to stop the run. They need REAL linebackers who play downhill and flow to the ball. 3. Not being able to get enough d-line pressure because the linebackers are below average and a liability. The same thing happened to the Eagles d-line...bad linebacker play. It's no surprise that two teams who combined for over 100 sacks between them (in 2022) looked pedestrian down the stretch.

MM scheme is all about the WR winning their matchups. The problem is you gotta have the guns to do it it’s why his version of the WCO became stale in GB. When we had guys like Nelson, Cobb, Jennings, James Jones and Finley def would have to matchup across the board but once it was just Jordy and Cobb then Adams and Jordy it became stale and predictable. The Cowboys would need the Bengals WRs for this scheme to continuously work. And his running game in GB were always underutilized he had Aaron Jones for 2 seasons and Jones didn’t really breakout until MLF became coach.

Mike McCarthy play calling was predictable and made it hard for Dak to find opportunities. Without finding opportunities, and with Jordan Love and the Packer young offense playing hot and starting to pull away, Dak started to get tunnel vision and choke and make bad decisions and try to force things. Both are at fault, but it seems Mike is more at fault since he's just become too predictable, especially with some of the masterful coaches out there. Should he be fired? I'm not sure. He's still a respectable coach. Cowboys still have winning seasons all the time and that's much better than many teams. I think it depends on who else is available for coaching.

Two things: 1.) Brand new offensive scheme, but by this time of the year they should have been able to have worked things out and added a few plays or wrinkles for the playoffs. 2.) The scheme for the offense needed to have some new wrinkles for the playoffs and didn't. This only showed that passing game struggles. You needed two more vides: 1. Show how they also had issues running the ball. 2. The other thing, and this was a huge factor as well . . . Dallas could not stop the Green Bay Packers on the ground. They ran at will. The Cowboys dynasty teams of the early Nineties would have stopped the opponents run game. Then they would have blown the defense off the ball and controlled the clock with their own ground game. I understand that today's NFL is different and it's more of a passing league now. But the teams that beat Dallas or gave them the most problems were the teams that were able to run the ball effectively. Honestly, this Cowboy's team was set up to score fast and get a big lead. Then their defense could pin their ears back and go after the QB. It's essentially a combination of a complimentary offensive and defensive scheme that covers up one another's weaknesses. They have a lot of talent. But the schemes they used on both sides of the ball don't set up the players to be successful. That is a fundamentally flawed way to run a team. They need to get more sophisticated in the passing game, be able to run the ball effectively and stop the run of the opponent. If they do those three things, they'll be a much improved team and should be a able to make a deeper run in the playoffs.

Not sure that I agree with the premise at the start of the video, saying that the checkdowns “aren’t routes”. If Dak takes those this game looks way different.

Dak defenders will make other excuses and point elsewhere, but Dak made the key mistakes that early on destroyed the offensive and defensive game plans. Dallas stopped running the ball and GB ran more. Does anyone look as Dak's footwork while passing? He throws with a open "slew" front foot. This is completely adverse to Pat Mahomes and other good QB's keeping the front foot closed through the pass release. Face it. Dak is a good 4th round QB but Jerry's delusional influence has pretended he's a top 5 overall QB. Unless Dak can completely CHANGE his mental demeanor, he will never ascend to the next level.

What Dallas lacked this year was a power running back to get into the endzone. Pollard and Dowdle didn't cut it. They're good 2nd running backs. We need a McAffery, a Henry, a Chubb type running back. And on defense, we need good hard hitting and versatile middle line backers that can stop the run, bypass a block, read a play action, a draw play, a screen pass and that can run blitz or fall back and cover a pass in the middle. Bell and Clark sucked and even Van Der Esch sucks.
@Richie3Jack
@Richie3Jack 6 ай бұрын
From what I watched on All-22 one of the themes was that Dak got happy feet when the protection was there. The pass pro was good during this game and often times all Dak had to do was get off his first read, move in the pocket away from the pressure and fire to another receiver. Instead he would get happy feet and bail out of the pocket. He also had problems with drifting in his dropbacks towards the side he was throwing on. That disturbed the pocket a bit and made it easier for the GB defense to read. Another theme was the WR's, particularly Cooks, were dreadful in the first half. Lots of issues with the route running and not being able to counter or avoid GB defenders bumping them. I would see times where receivers would get bumped off their route and it would ruin the spacing and essentially take 2 of the 5 receivers going out for a pass out of the play. There were also a few times the receivers had trouble locating the ball. I also saw a few times where the RB's would block & release and again, the spacing would be off as they would be right next to another receiver. The Cowboys were doing such a nice job of getting the RB's involved in the passing game early in the season and then that just started to diminish as the season went along. As far as the INT's go, I don't think it was a bad no-call on the first INT. Dak missed his read to Lamb on a corner route (I can understand some apprehension throwing that pass on 3rd down, but that's what Lamb and Dak are supposed to do). Cooks route was dreadful. On the pick-6 the play design was very flawed as Kurt Warner mentioned (especially positioning Pollard to the weakside given the front GB had). But I do believe Cooks ran his route improperly and that made the play much easier for the safety to make a break on the ball. Also Dallas had 2nd and 4 (or less) 4 times in the first 3 quarters. They ran it each time and didn't pick up the first down each time. That's a prime down and distance to make an explosive play thru passing the ball. But MM wanted to 'establish the run' instead and all he established was the Cowboys were going to have a 3rd down. When your QB is struggling, it's imperative that you understand the analytics of playcalling to help him out and maybe gain him some confidence and throw off the defense a bit. Instead it was just status quo, archaic football and this was the result.
@travisoshea
@travisoshea 6 ай бұрын
You said you watched the all 22 but, do you understand all the reads in each progression and do you know what Dak is told to look for going through those professions?
@Richie3Jack
@Richie3Jack 6 ай бұрын
@@travisoshea No. But neither does Kurt Warner or Chase Daniel or The Football Scout. But one can read the coverage and see the routes and get a pretty good estimate as to where the reads are because of the coverage and a basic understanding of how the team is playing that coverage. For instance, the pick-6 was against a Cover-3 blitz and they ran double slants on the inside. It's not a leap in logic to understand that the double slants are a decent routes against Cover-3 and that Cooks likely ran the route improperly which caused the INT. Or the first INT where the Packers were in man coverage and a corner route by Lamb beats that coverage (I'm not nutty about running a whip route to the inside against man coverage, particularly with Cooks who runs that route like shit). Is it going to be accurate 100% of the time? No. But you can get a very accurate idea of what's going on most plays. And you don't have to know the reads and how it's coached to see Dak drifting on his dropbacks to the side he's throwing it to or Dak getting happy feet when there is no pressure or the pressure can be easily avoided. The offense's poor performance wasn't all on Dak. The receivers, particularly Cooks, were awful in the first half. They're just poorly coached receivers and have been for a while now. And while the scheme is much better than Moore's and Garrett's (although that's like saying he's the nicest guy in prison)...the scheme still has some issues and some things that I would hope they would learn by now. Plus the playcalling was stupid. First 3 quarters they had 4 times when they were at 2nd and 4 or less. Each time they ran the ball and each time they came up short of the first down.. That's a prime down and distance to make explosive plays in the passing game. The analytics not only show it, but it's a down and distance where the defense tends to key on the run without blitzing, so it's a perfect time to throw the ball. But instead, McCarthy wants to go back to the archaic thinking of 'establishing the run' and all he established is that we were going to have a 3rd down.
@travisoshea
@travisoshea 6 ай бұрын
@@Richie3Jack first you can tell what the progressions are from experience with that certain concept vs certain coverage or hi lowing a certain defender. Second, double slants are not a decent choice vs a base 33 or 11 Cover 3 and even more so if it’s matched. Third, it’s called a FIRE ZONE and MEG backside. Kurt, Daniel’s and The Football scout do not even call the coverages correctly. Green Bay played STUBBIE 4 with Walker over Lamb on some snaps and Kurt didn’t even recognize this. Now when talking about timing on that double slant INT that’s where we do not know for certain at what depth are they being coached at. Of the three you mentioned Kurt and Daniel’s show you the best progressions. Suggest watching QB school where JT is much better than Daniel’s. The football scout who has some knowledge leaves out A LOT!!! You are right that “you” won’t be 100% accurate. Guys like JT, Kurt, Cody Alexander, Coach Vass, The Big Blue Banter and Thinking Football know. Pretty much every other person who talks about schemes and playcalling have zero clue what they are talking about. Or think they do.

Watching Stroud and Love makes me want a young QB BUT I also remember the doldrums of the pre-Romo years so I know finding a good QB is hard. Cowboys have not been that good of a QB evaluator historically. Good is the enemy of great but, from my eyes, Dak has consistently been asked to do things above his actual talent level. His truest talent is being able to play above his talent level at times but far too many times the play call is "Dak bail us out." This offense was Jeckyll and Hyde all year but it was clear the gameplan got conservative in the biggest games. The fact that, after the Packers won the coin toss, took the ball, came down and scored right away, they called two run plays to start the game told the story.

I'm so tired of people bringing up the post-Aikman, pre-Romo years to argue why we shouldn't get a young QB. That was 20 years ago. We are talking about a 5 season stretch where our QB play was not very good. QBs are much better today than they were then and we have far more talent to help. And yea historically the Cowboys HAVE been a great QB evaluator. I mean, Staubach, White, Aikman, Romo and Dak all come to mind to show just how good we have had it for long periods of time in terms of consistent QB play. Dak being asked to do things above his talent level is an argument I will never get behind. He wanted to get paid, he argued that he was better than his talent level and got paid like a top tier QB. The first three seasons of his career, Zeke was the main offensive weapon until 2019, which is where Dak took over. I think if Dak wants top QB money, he should play like a top QB. He should be able to be that guy that bails us out when things go wrong because that's what he's paid to do. Instead, he doesn't. He gets scared and freezes up.

We need a real OC in here, look how Schultz got off for the Texans in his first season. He started 7 less games for them than he did with us but had 58 more receiving yards and the same amount of TD's on the season. They played a simple cover 2 and stopped our offense like it was nothing, we didn't attack the seams till it was too late. They knew what was coming on 3rd downs and we refuse to use our personnel on offense. We had 60 damn pass attempts and not one pass or run to Turpin. The defense literally just rolled over, the offense never had a chance. Giving up 24 damn points in the first half to a team that couldn't even score 24 points on the Giants defense in a whole game is pathetic. We sat in a zone like a whore while they had their way with us, 3rd and 9 and you play a damn zone? We had 0 sacks because he had so many people open to pass to, the first 3rd and 9 Bland was so far back it's no wonder he caught that illegal contact flag. It was a disgusting defensive gameplan, way worse than that BS the offense used. He kept Bell in on the goal line defense like an idiot knowing they were going to run the ball, same thing with the Buffalo game. The guy can't and don't make adjustments at all. You knew they were going to try to run on you and you stop it on 1st and 2nd but then go to a zone on third to waste the effort over and over again. Why didn't he blitz on that first 3rd and 9? He needs to go, this was a playoff game and he called it like a wuss and gave up 24 damn points in the first half.

Dowdle would have either picked up the 1st or gotten close since there was no one around him. Dak should have turned and seen Dowdle quicker and got him the ball.......instead he stared down Fergie and the defense quickly pounced, resulting in no gain.
