Competition is good. Foreign competition forces the local ones to innovate, reduce costs in order to be competitive or be out of business. All these benefit the consumers who can do with better quality and more affordable reasonably -priced products. I really don't care much about protecting the domestic market (that's for inefficient companies and govt to worry) if such competition means I get to enjoy lower prices and more options! Also EV cars and even driverless transportation like buses have been in China for quite some years. I was in China some years ago and was amazed by how fast they have leapfrogged in certain areas. It's not that China is catching up in EV, just that German is getting complacent and lagging behind without the foreign competition from overseas ... until now.

It was almost ten years ago, I was lucky to have a chance to join an event hosted by the Audi executives in Barcelona. I test drove their self driving prototype electric A7and it was amazing. They also gave us a lecture about their visions of the EVs, very impressive. But as we all know, none of those happened. 😂The times have approved that German corps are not as innovative as they advertised.

There are only 22 parts in a EV car. And a EV car is nothing but a battery with four wheel and a computer. So it is not that hard to get into the business, as long as you can secure the Chinese batteries which is the REAL DEAL. And Chinese car batteries are superiors. Even Tesla is using Chinese car batteries. If you have a chance to see the Chinese made EV cars, their quality and price ratio is OFF THE ROOF. Chinese EV car makers are so competitive among themselves that they practically load all luxury features they could think of into the EV cars.

Why are the Chinese focused on the Euro car market? A) It's a large and affluent market. B) Asian expansion is already underway C) Big US tariffs on Chinese products, and few are willing to lose as much money as Geely is to access the US market. This will result in BYD and others building factories in Mexico. It will take time though.

For example, Nikola Tesla shared his knowledge in alternating current technology, almost free to the rest of the world, even though, Edison wanted to prevent the adoption of AC technology.
