If I were going to develop an Eddsworld fan movie, I wouldn't. I'd make an enormous Marvel-tier Newgrounds crossover adventure instead.

The downfall of this project seems to be that none of the people at the top could resist getting distracted by the gravity of what they were undertaking, so instead of working on the movie, they set and achieved shorter, easier goals for themselves, like minisodes, podcasts, fan engagement etc. That wouldn't have been a bad thing if the original goal was to make an Eddsworld fan series... But it wasn't.

So, fun little blub from a former EWFM crew member: I was brought onto the fan movie during PiP’s run as director to help with re-writing the script and I cannot emphasize enough how frustrating it was trying to get anything done on it. Before we even started writing, he sent me the wrong version of the script twice before I got to see what was the most recent version of the script at the time. We only had two writing sessions, one where act one was finished and the other where we literally only got a page written in the span of two and a half hours. PiP wanted the all of the crew to be involved in the script and thought it would be a great idea to let everyone come in during the writing session, but what ended up happening was that no one was working on the script and everyone was talking over one another about topics that had nothing to do with the movie. I think there were about ten people in the call and only two people were the “writers”. I asked PiP afterwards if we could limit the amount of people in the call while we wrote so we could focus on the script and that people could comment notes on it once we were done, but he told me “No, it’s not a real problem, it’s fine.” That was also the last scripting session we ever had and that was months before the movie was shut down. He’d keep messaging “Hey, feel like writing this weekend for whoever’s gonna be available” in the general chat and then nothing would happen. I’d keep asking and be told that we’d do it “soon” and then it never came. I was actually tempted to rewrite the script myself because of how long it was taking, but, y’know, it ended so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Good video though my dood, “This ship of Theseus of a production” was not something I was expecting to hear, but it’s a pretty good way to describe the project.

I think the biggest flaw in this “movie” is that they never had a base, never knew where to go, they were just making the movie as they went they never looked back.

Fun Fact: WAAAAAY back when this movie was in production, I was almost going to be in it as a background voice. I think I was going to voice a zombie or something lol

Personally, as the voice of commander Bai, by 2020 I had recorded all of my lines several times. Not gonna lie, the movie's re-writing really annoyed me. I had fully intended to record new stuff but in the years since I enrolled, my situation changed a lot and I just wasn't as invested by the end. It was all kind of a mess Edit: Funny enough, the one clip of Bai in this video is voiced by Marc and NOT me

I'm just glad the talented animators got to actually work on Eddsworld after everything that happened. At least there was one good outcome to all this. The EW movie eventually slipped out of my mind as I got older but I was genuinely excited for it when I was 11

Yeah the problem with them is the director was just thinking of only himself and other people what happy why he was doing on his own not thinking of rest if you want to do a fun movie something like that you cannot just ignore and kicking off all the fan people because this could result years and later failure if you actually example if you want to make a fun movie you must listen to people that you want but it will take time for that and if you succeed try and one with it it could succeed if you’re not unless if they took a long time and kick off and not kicking all the people of the fans because it would succeed your find movie so develop better and make it a proper one they should’ve done that but the problem is they’re not actually British UK English they’re just from the US that’s a problem if they were from the UK they could’ve do it properly and no I think if Edward didn’t pop up straight away because of do it easily.

You know its funny a lot of people dont also know this but the voice for Edd also did some questionable things with me and an ex friend of mine when we were minors although I dont have proof of this happening anymore bc why would I It seems like most ppl who worked on this movie turned out to be creeps and I ironically had a creepy interaction with Marc as well. Take this with a grain of salt though I know it doesnt sound like this was real and didnt happen to me but it did. Anyways I really loved your video and thank you so much for covering the behind scenes of the EW movie :)

This film's production seemed like an absolute trainwreck from start to cancellation, and the two directors outed as groomers was the final nail in the coffin. At least Collin got to take McCoy and Martin and had a victory lap of his own.

I had heard a lot of the Eddsworld Fan Movie drama...but I did NOT expect it to be this bad.

The key to making a show or a movie is make a script before you get voice actors, and don’t release trailers ahead of time, also even if you do finish your show or movie make sure your almsot done with it, than make a trailer and date

2018 was the year I was most invested in the fandom. I remember being hyped for the fan movie and being on the project's Discord server and all. Although, I did not know a lot of what has happened since then. I knew it was cancelled, but I didn't know of all the bad stuff that happened, nor did I know of that comic series that spawned from it. I gotta have a look at that one.

I remember waaaayyyy back in 2014, they released a teaser that said "My fellow Americans". I was so disappointed that they were switching the location to America, as a Brit growing up with American cartoons, Eddsworld was so refreshing to have set in the UK. I clearly wasn't alone because after asking the team on Facebook, they had to make a separate post about it. Bad decision. (Side note: LOVE THEREALJIMS TRIBUTE)

I used to know Mark before the death of Edd but afterwards I lost touch with the community after all the flack Tom had caught. Kinda crazy what happened while I wasn't paying any attention to any of this.

I just noticed something! In the end part 2, when Tom discovers Tord is a wanted criminal, he kicks down the door. But next to the door during that moment is a black hoodie on a coat hanger. Nice little easter egg that I haven't seen discussed on KZfaq before.

I looked back at the old EW Fan movie a few times since I first heard about it and watched their stuff until I got out of the fandom entirely in 2018 (thank god for that, it was so toxic by the time I left. All I wanted to see was the art! But noooo, now you have to see pre-teens go rabid and gross about four very real British boys, one of which isn’t with us anymore) and, upon retrospection without ever touching Eddsworld content years later, felt genuinely irked by what I remembered of the project and the people working on it. Now, I guess I see why, but the other thing was that I remembered Mark’s remarks (heh) about the official E.W. shorts. He praised the old stuff religiously until Edd passed and the project was undertaken by other artists, already suffering from his loss. He’d nit-pick really small details, if I recall (can’t actually view the old videos anymore), that weren’t at all relevant from a story-tellers perspective. He once criticised the episode Temmie Chang worked on (Saloonatics) and claimed that her cute little nod to her working on Undertale (also in The End, too) as a “dated reference”… Which kind of shows no respect to the Temmie and the other talented artists involved in making that game, which doesn’t translate well to someone undertaking an entire project who also has no idea how long movies take to make in every aspect of development. Everything I recall him saying puts a sour taste in my mouth, and now it’s nice to at least put a reason as to why and, since the movie’s cancellation, might finally be the final nail in the coffin of the toxic fanbase of Eddsworld. (And to everyone involved with anything E.W. related, if you’re reading this, I repent for my sins of being apart of that side of the fandom as I was a wee little lad who didn’t understand what dignity was.)

Dude I just re-watched Zanta Claws 3 with subtitles and in the scene where The XMASBOT shows up the subtitles say oh a less cool version of Tord's robot which I found surprising cause the end part 2 and Zanta Claws 3 came out in a 6 year radius. So I was shocked when they said that and they were hiding this for 6 years. I watched Zanta Claws 3 from Eddsworld complete the channel so they might have done it a year ago idk.

A strange thing I noticed when comparing the latest draft of Jon's cut to the first one, in the first one whenever the news mentions General McCoy, they refer to him as "General Arthur McCoy" but in the latest draft they removed "Arthur" but instead of just removing it they dashed out all the letters, so it now reads as "General ------ McCoy"
