Yep, since educating myself on narcissistic patterns, I have learned to use my empathic abilities to put any narcissists I encounter in their place.I ended up getting the last laugh on the most recent two narcs who have tried to manipulate me for their benefit. Like you say, empathy can indeed be an amazing superpower.

The energy vampire I'm dealing with is getting annoyed by my behaviour.🥳

When I was a kid, I knew my Dad had something wrong with him, but I didn't know the word narcissism. This is how I worked it out in my mind- that he was an alien from another planet who had come to Earth and had taken human form. And he was trying to act like a human being, but couldn't quite pull it off. As an adult when I found out the word narcissism, I knew I had worked it out correctly in my mind as a child.

I have been away from the narcissist for quite a while and it still gets me angry and hateful. Not every day it just slips in my mind. I can't believe I put up with it for so long.

What about when the narcissist poses as an empath and tries to gaslight you into believing that you’re the narcissist? This one got me recently-

I am now an educated empath. Have done much research on Narcs. Realized what I was dealing with for 30 yrs in marriage. What an eye opener. I have always known I was an empath since I was about 15 yrs old. I’m 43 yrs old now. Many people thought my kindness and empathy was a weakness, but even in bad times it proved to be my biggest strength

Went over a thousand miles to help my 94 yr old N dad. I tried to hang in there, but with the info on N I have, I left swiftly after 2 days, because of the the hurt and humiliation I wasn't willing to continue to endure. Thankfully, step grandchildren are there for him. I wont be back.He idolizes them, hardly knows them. I'm the scapegoat. Thank God I have a heavenly father that loves me!

I grew up with a narcissist father, and an empath mother, my mother ended up the stronger one towards the end, she was a true survivor, kept her grace, and she just exuded love, and I think I've followed her, I have all the attributes, and im glad it now has a name, and I've learnt from her mistakes, hence why im still single 😉

Oh my goodness Andrew! When you mentioned about being a sounding board and narcissist falling asleep while communicating, I said oh my goodness, that is exactly what happened to me! After listening to her go on and on and on about stuff, I had to wait for her to catch her breath so I could say something, and when I did she fell asleep or pretended like she fell asleep, as if what I had to say was unimportant! I continue to educate myself and remain aware of all of the red flags including body language. Studying this after getting away shows so many past warnings also the warnings that I didn't heed. Life lessons learned by family and friends. They know who they are and know why I am not putting myself through that again. No more repeats for me.

Let's not get to labely here. You can simply be "not a narcissist" without having to be anything else. You can just be a normal person. Maybe you display empathic traits, or sometimes not. Bottomline, you are NOT a narcissist, and THEY definitely ARE. But its still true that once we are wise to the game we can prevent ourselves from getting ensnared by another narc.

People were there for me, but I still had to find the courage to pick myself up off the ground. Now I'm working full time. I'm strong. I got a promotion. I have enough money to live nicely. The blessings keep coming. It's an intervention from above. Good things keep happening. I was struck by a vehicle when I the relationship. It has to do with him and being in the wrong place dehydrated crossing the street because of him. I was neglected and dehydrated. I was in the trauma ward. I had to live with that monster for another 10 months. He's been gone since 7/29/22. I didn't trust. I was angry for so long. I'm back though😊 I'm so happy. I exercise eat right. My empathy and my father's empathy was used against us. I was told that I am too sensitive, that I should endure the abuse from my narc ex. And that was told from my mother, that, you are guessing, is full blown covert narc.

I remember the way my narc looked at me with soft smile on their face . At the time I thought it was because they were showing me how much they adored me , but now I know it was because they knew they had me RIGHT where they wanted me , in the dark ! After the discard they will always write you off as the crazy one , the ridiculous one , the lost , confused or just plain STUPID one ! They will tell anyone that will listen that you suddenly turned against them and they have been left abandoned and bemused . Once again this is another attempt to portray you as the eternal underdog , the faithful sidekick turned bad for absolutely NO real reason AT ALL . By now they have also brainwashed you into believing you hold this subordinate position , and it can take a long time to shake this dark cloak that has enveloped you so so long . The truth is that if ANYONE is less in value , it was always actually THEM , because what kind of person would get a sense of importance by putting another down ?? They are cold empty lonely souls , who were ALWAYS jealous of the true genuine light that shines from within every empathic soul ! 💪❤️😎

I’d stopped asking others how they are. I didn’t want to know anymore. I reduced myself into a shell, when around other people, or in public. I’d become so closed off, and was usually always the person who ended up hearing a random strangers life story, stood by the freezer counter or something. 😆 Possibly I’d reached a point of overloaded, when still very much infected by the narcissist. Even though the reality of who I was dealing with was already creeping in slowly, before reality hit fully. I have finally detached from the narcissist. It’s as you said, I now preserve my energy, for those who need it, or truly deserve it. (or at least, Im trying) It’s still early day, for me. I had isolated myself, as I fear I carry, or learned, some narcissistic traits. Which don’t feel comfortable. I’m trying to tell myself, If it doesn’t feel natural, it’s not mine to carry.. I still have many things to still accept, and filter out of my system. Plus I didn’t realise how a narcissist side of many people has been encouraged, they are everywhere you turn. Which also made me question myself. I pity the person who played so many games with my head, heart and life. Who is now left with a gaping void, he will never get to fill. Where as, I’m buzzing, smiling and happy about being who I am now and whatever my future brings. I’m so grateful to him also, for the strength and filling, he has given me. The best part about it, I forgive him, because he is not well, not healthy, and will never be happy. (Thank YOU for spending time to read my little rant. Sorry if some of it doesn’t make sense. My goodness, Andrew - I feel like you are reading my mind ! Not only am I married to a Narcissist; but his mother was one of the most manipulative souls I'd come across. Every time my husband and I visited my mother in law, we returned home in terrible fights, verbally. I was always in the wrong and apparently not good enough for her son. Ironically, I am the one that holds a masters degree in analytic theories while my husband never completed high school ! At 50, I finally put my foot down and refused to see that woman again. Since then I have cultivated a wonderful garden and spend much time by myself outside. I also enjoy metal detecting. I no longer absorb the accusations of mental abuse or exhaust myself trying to make things right in his eyes. Today I can look into the eyes of people I come across that are in pain and can feel what they are dealing with. I find satisfaction in being a good listener and helping others when I have the energy to do so. I want to thank you so much for this encouragement Andrew.. I needed to hear this message ~

Patterns of narcissism don't lie. My sons spotted it right away, it is a narc.. I gave benefit of the doubt even after hearing the narc say bizarre things in the beginning. I discovered a couple of years ago that he was a covert narcissist. Things went along smoothly as long as I was pliant or didn't challenge him in any way. He was extremely helpful, even anticipating my needs - I decided that we could somehow help one another. He discarded me 18 months ago, sensing that I was about to pull away and he could not face being the one who was left. A few months later he was back and the whole circus began again. Now I feel that I really need to get off the merry go round. So all those kind deeds he did for me have been noted, itemized and I have been reminded of them. So all this helpfulness was really about control and his attempt to make me feel that I cannot cope without him...but I can!
