Why The Ending of iCarly Left a Bigger Impact Than You Think

The ending of iCarly left a lot bigger of an impact than you or even I may have thought at face value. With the show coming out during the rise of the online creator space, it added more value in legitimizing it as a real avenue for the creative out there to express themselves online. With the new revival of iCarly dropping on Paramount Plus next month, I thought it would be a fun topic to look into and appreciate the impact the original iCarly left.

Not being shady (not really a fan either) but she's actually had a few plastic surgeries since her time on Victorious and Sam and Cat. There's a few videos on KZfaq going into this. Then there's the tanning, hair and makeup, she's a fan of the whole racially ambiguous aesthetic now more than back then. In addition, she was a teenager around that time so just it's just general aging.

@@Jaheartsjonas She also dyed her hair at first during her Nickelodeon years, but it fried due to her having to redye it all the time. So towards the end of Victorious, her hair is a wig as it was growing back. She had to keep the aesthetic between the 2 shows and 1 cameoshow cause they were the same fictional character.

For me and my sister we watched the first episode premiere expecting to hate it because we were mentally married to Drake and Josh still 😅😅😅 (the show) and we didn't want to relinquish our loyalty so easily. We were preparing to Hate ICarly solely because the actress that played Megan stared in it and we still had a negative association with her (we weren't voicing this specific reason but that is why) and we weren't even little kids anymore lmao we were 12 and 14 at the time respectively. What's funny is ICARLY not only rivaled our love of Drake and Josh but also surpassed it! I appreciate the show because it was one of the few my sister and I could enjoy together and get along and that is priceless.

Although I have fond memories of watching Drake & Josh and Ned’s declassified as a child, iCarly was the Nick sitcom I truly grew up with. it’s run so perfectly coincided with my adolescence from the pilot at the beginning of 7th grade till the final episode during my senior year of high school. Many years have gone by since then and iCarly is now older than I was at the time of its premiere. Whether or not the show holds up to the test of time doesn’t really matter to me. Yeah I agree to an extent. I think it’s fine to make money off of your content, but KZfaq’s algorithm caters to the people who abuse it by treating content creation like an industrial machine, doing basically the same thing over and over in order to pump out videos daily. I thought it was actually respectful at first to pay people to run ads on their videos since it acknowledges that these videos are their creators’ own intellectual property. Of course, now that KZfaq got roped into Google’s digital megalo-monopoly they gated monetization to popular people and run ads on non-monetized videos. Their choices as a company really shows where their priorities lie, and those priorities are definitely not charm, originality, spontaneity, or respect for the people who make the platform special in the first place.

Love this video and the points you made! ICarly was definitely ahead of it's time in concept. Unfortunately though this whole show has Dan's show's traits all over it and I can't enjoy it in exactly the same way and knowing in details about the things Jeanette went thru during its run it's hard to support the reboot either. Imo it's another attempt to cash in on nostalgia waaay too soon. It hasn't even been a decade since the finale yet. Not only that but it's a show tied so closely to a problematic creator. All those things combined makes it yet another unnecessary reboot. Just let shows settle and rest and age gracefully, like I Love Lucy

I've just finished watching iCarly for the first time (thank you Amazon Prime) and you can tell how well its aged; episodes had a lot of staples of modern internet culture, from shippers to cancel culture and fake drama, it's bizarre to see a show that started in 2007 kinda predict that stuff. That's what made it great to watch in the early seasons, and the humour has aged surprisingly well to. I'm honestly really curious how the reboot goes, my one wish (which probably won't happen) is that they somehow work a Raid Shadow Legends sponsorship joke into it just for the pure absurdity of it

I definitely agree with a lot of what you said regarding the impact iCarly had during the late 2000s. A lot of people tend to forget how iCarly was ahead of its time given what the premised focused on and how early internet/social media culture was depicted to what we would see over the years. Episodes like iFight Shelby Marx predicted future events like the Logan Paul vs. KSI boxing match, the iPity the Nevel episode predicted cancel culture/content creator controversy when an infamous viral video/tweet/statement comes out, etc. From 2007 to right now in 2021, the culture of the internet and development of social media has really changed within the last 14 years and it fits to having platforms such as Instgram into the revival now since it seems like they are going to really delve into modern day internet culture and see how Carly’s status as an Internet personality continues to rise from when she started the web show as a kid to now in her twenties resurrecting the show back after having the 9-10 year hiatus and implementing changes to adapt to the way real life internet content creators work today. Carly’s content for the webshow may end up completely changing as part of adapting to the modern day internet culture and old members leaving and new members arriving, which we have seen a lot of times from real life content creators such as Smosh, Ryan Higa (Nigahiga), Shane Dawson, etc. iPsycho, iStill Psycho, and iStart a Fan War also showed the extreme sides of fans in different ways such as shippers for fandoms (in iCarly’s case, ships between members of the webshow with the Creddie vs. Seddie wars) and dangerous/murderous fans (in iPsycho, Nora just holding the iCarly gang captive). In real life, there have been more serious situations revolving dangerous fans such as the murder of Christina Grimmie back in 2016 where she was a singer, actress, and KZfaqr who was murdered by one of her fans at a meet and greet. 😢 I was 11 when the original show premiered back then and I'm now 25 coming into the revival next week, which I am so excited for. During that time when the show was airing, I also experienced the early years of KZfaq and the development of social media platforms that have now become very prevalent to our own lives and especially for content creators. It really defined a time that spoke to us who watched the show when we were kids and now coming back as adults, which I fit exactly in terms of where Carly and Freddie are as mid-twenty year olds.

I watched icarly when it was still on tv, but i never really invested my time in it or cared much about it. I remember I would watch it when there was nothing else on tv I wanted to watch. i did enjoy the show though, but I put it off to the side because in my opinion it just didn't live up to the same enjoyment as drake and josh. I also remember for some reason not liking Freddie's character. I just finished rewatching the entire series with my gf to get ready for the revival and come to realize how good the show actually was. My opinion on Freddie also changed, and actually became one of my favorites in the show alongside Spencer and Sam. The show really was ahead of its time considering how big streamers are nowadays, and how so many are making a real living off it. The only thing that upset me knowing how things are in the revival is Freddie not ending up with Carly. They did his thing with Sam, but the show ended their relationship in such a dumb way acting like 2 people with different likes and interests can't possibly be together. anyways, I really hope the revival will be fun to watch.

i’ll never forget the promos that came out in 2007. hell, i’ll never forget the PREMIERE. i got bullied in elementary school, and didn’t have the greatest childhood in general, and i would always be so excited to come home and later on watch iCarly. it’ll always hold the most special place in my heart, and i’m so happy that they’re making the revival for the older fans ❤️

Seeing all this really brought so much nostalgia, especially seeing the classic KZfaq format. I saw almost episode of iCarly when it first aired. It was one of my favorite shows at the time along with other shows like Drake & Josh. It just felt relatable and down to earth. Being the weird one among others in my school, this show really gave me a message that just being yourself and not what society says you should be is okay. So much has changed in the world and the internet since this show ended. I didn’t know about the reboot until I watched this video, I really look forward to seeing this.

Watching shows from my early childhood, like i Carly and Victorious, give me kind of a nostalgic vibe. It is nice to remember how internet, tv and music was like back then. I rewatched iCarly some years ago and I watched Victorious for the first time and it is cool to see how they can still being pretty funny shows.

I kinda hope they tackle the subject of problematic social media stars in the new iCarly. The late 2010s were dominated by people like the Paul Brothers and DaddyOFive, who had zero respect for authority or morality and instead opted to do the most outrageous and despicable things to get their fame, and while they're almost universally reviled by the internet, they still had enough of a following to be successful. Seeing a mainstream series like iCarly bringing up that topic would be neat, so long as the writing staff handle it properly.

The ending fits the experience of the time of life they are in so well. They are roughly high school sophomores/juniors and Sam says "Internet will be here when you come back" but as we often experience moving away from friends, going to college, entering the workforce- its hard to impossible to go back for many. You often never see those friends again, never go back to doing that thing with them. And Carly picks the show back up again about 10 years later out of nostalgia but its not quite the same as they remember. The unnecessarily mean comments, the people comparing your content to others, trying to do new things while satisfying the people who simultaneously want more of the old content but don't like when you do it.
