My Framework playlist - • Framework I haven't been this excited to see what a company can do in a long time, I've given a lot of thought on the ‪@FrameworkComputer‬ 16 and it's really going to be an industry game-changer. The focus on sustainability and pure customization is really cool to see. I hope this video gives you some insight as to what we can expect to see from framework and the companies that collab with them for this new 16" laptop.

4:07 I mentioned AIB collaboration (Add in Board). Typically this term is reserved for GPU nomenclature but I think it's relevant in this situation as a lot of aftermarket manufacturers will be making AIB type additions to framework. What do you think... does that terminology fit here? Also coincidentally LTT uploaded a vid today touring the framework assembly line, i'll link that in the vid description.

Individual standard consumers may not be interested in it but laptop distributors would prolly *love* selling and repairing the framework because it means they don't need special training to repair it and they could sell more smaller components to more consumers

It doesn't have t be far removed from your family. If they are not excited about Framework they are probably not excited about laptops in general, they just want a fast machine that works. What excites me for Framework related to my family is that I am usually tech support and being able to maintain and increase the lifespan of these machines with all the available parts etc. Framework is awesome for everyone!

For me, it's not just about upgradeability, but also about being able to easily replace really basic things like the keyboard, the battery, or the speakers, if they break. My currrent laptop has trouble booting up, and I'm pretty sure it's just the MOS battery getting old, but that battery is buried really deep inside the machine and a pain to replace.
@VladimirKostek

That makes total sense...annoying about the batt, I think it gives you more of a feeling of ownership too. @ThirrinDiamond
@ThirrinDiamond 11 ай бұрын
The fact that it's upgradeable is very alluring to my family because we hate planned obsolescence. Growing up poor does things to people/lh So i think if they really honed in on the fact that it's easy to change things in the marketing, even the internal parts and that it'll save money in the long run, then it'd appeal to the mainstream audience a lot Most families have at least one tinkerer/tech support anyway lol
@VladimirKostek

I'm waiting for Framework 16 to come out, then I'm getting it. I've had my Dell laptop for nearly 5 years or more, and the battery which used to last 3 hours won't last an hour and a half. I feel like it would have been better to support a special conector like oculink for an external GPU, that gives you more options at full performance using the same 13 inch laptop when you don't need the extra power
@VladimirKostek
@VladimirKostek 11 ай бұрын
True, but oculink is more proprietary than TB3 or TB4 so I think one of those would be better. They didn't speculate in the press release the connector type so definitely TBD. But they do say it will be PCIe x8 so that provides a lot of bandwidth. Will be curious to see what it actually is
@pali122
@pali122 11 ай бұрын
@VladimirKostek I mean if you can actually just have an empty case and have like a pcie connection to the exterior that would be sick too, because that means you could use your dedicated graphics of the notebook when you want and even plug it out and just plug an egpu to that pcie if maybe they take too much time releasing new gpus or you need some extra juice
@VladimirKostek

My second laptop's hinge broke after only a year of light use and not only did I have to send it in, but they wanted my password for the device. It took almost 2 weeks to get it back. Worst part was this was during a semester of colage. Framework gives me more control over MY device and MY data. And I thank them for that. I am a teen, and have been saving up all the money from my job since the announcement to buy a framework 16 as my first personal pc. I am stoked to be able to put the numpad on the left hand side of the keyboard, as one large use case for pcs for me is 3d modeling, and I use my mouse in my right hand. @@VladimirKostek - Good yeah.. in general I'd like to see more tubers post about the 16; most videos on it are pretty old for some reason. Would also like to know what people are working for the FW Marketplace. This is going blow up so hard dude. My wicked 16 ships Q2 ... I'm just worried the wait will kill me before I have a chance to enjoy it 😰 Being a part of this industry disruption and the community is going to be sooo fun. And watching panicked CEOs scrambling to play catch-up so they don't get left behind is going to be _especially_ delicious! The old ways are OVER dipshits, sorry not sorry 😅

I think If possibilities are endless then prices will be even higher... I think Framework components are really expensive compared to their non switchable competition
@VladimirKostek

That is true it is more expensive, I just watched Linus' video about the framework assembly and it's encouraging to see they can scale things up which in turn will reduce individual unit prices IMO.

@@JoeGillian0 Absolutely Joe, the reusability within a school system is certainly something they should try to latch onto. Reusable parts and upgradability would make things cheaper in the long term!

Although I'm hyped about the product, I remain skeptical of the company. I'm having a hard time that this company can actually sustain itself in the market, especially in this high interest rate environment. I wouldn't be surprised if the company is burning cash with negative contribution margin from each unit sale. I desperately hope I'm wrong

The laptops aren't exactly cheap compared to similarly specced laptops from other companies like Dell, HP or Lenovo, it is done under mass production and it does save up on labour for those who purchase their DIY edition (most likely the majority of their customers would be swayed in that direction).
@VladimirKostek

I would recommend you both watch Linus' new video he coincidentally posted yesterday about the framework assembly line. It was interesting to see that the DIY version actually is more labor intensive but they still charge less for it. The scalability they are building seems solid. I would really like to see them still sell parts that don't meet visual QA at a small discount. The video is linked in my description fyi

I'm gonna put out another framework vid in a couple of weeks and I might include my pre-order details in it. 11:20 I'm probably not getting one, and not just because I'm an Apple user, but because they don't sell Frameworks in my country, and there's no one re-selling them here either, also the import tax is unresonably high. Outside that, the other problem is what O.S would I use, for me Windows for anything outside gaming(and work, cause they pay me for it) is a big no, and I've had a lot of problems with Linux window managers when I used it, and I do not want to go back to that. But it's an very interesting laptop, if Apple ever fucks up with their privacy thing, I'll go back to Linux praying the interfaces will be better, and them I'll probably look into getting a Framework if they're easier to get in my country by them.
