There were a few clues this was always going to happen. First Edey said Memphis was talking to him. And klineman said strongly we are gonna get a big ,his words really stressed big. Then Ja said it’s gonna be crazy , then I knew the only crazy move to some people was Edey ,and I love it.

Edey tested better athletically then all the centers drafted in front of him at the combine. Edey was the best player in this draft hands down and will win rookie of the year.

Dude, why in the world would you want Clingan over Edey? Edey ate his lunch in the championship game. Clingan may or may not make it in the NBA. Edey is a sure bet.

How much better of a rim protector is Clingan really? Edey had no viable back up and was the focal point at Purdue. He had to be careful on defense to not get in foul trouble and couldn’t be aggressive defensively. He tested better than Clingan athletically at pretty much everything. I guess we’ll be finding out

I still don't understand why so many Grizz fans preferred Clingan over Edey. Head to head, Edey dominated the matchup. At the combine, his agility/mobility numbers were better than Clingan, but the media and fans are stuck in the 'big & slow' narrative.

They didn't even workout Clingan though I like Clingan as well, he is injury-prone. If the Grizz needed a physical C, it was Clingan or Edey .. 260 lbs vs 300 lbs both are team-first players. National champion vs 2-time Naismith winner. Either was fine but imo Edey is one if Memphis wanted to dominate the paint for a generation.. he dominated Clingan in the finals.. his upside is still yet to be reached. Every post-up is a mismatch, great at kickouts to 3-shooters, painful screen and rolls with Ja, add a reliable mid-range shot to take some stress off thos knees.

This was a very wise and bold move for the Grizzlies . It appears experts talk of defensive liabilities with edey ,but they fail to point out his offensive abilities to give other teams nightmares on defense . He is an extremely capable offensive threat . His addition to a stacked grizzlies team is the perfect landing spot ,where need meets need . He needs a team like Memphis. And Memphis needed a monster like Edey !" Great draft from a sixers fan !"

I'm a Purdue fan. I think Zach will struggle at covering pick and rolls. Especially if it turns into a pick and pop. However, he will cause havoc in the post. Teams will need to double down on him putting the defense into a scramble. His rebounding will also be elite. I hope he has a good career with Memphis. It will be interesting to see how it goes with a throwback center playing in today's NBA.

I think Zach will be great! Not a hall of famer, but still really good. People were acting like He will never ever get faster or better on defense. That is ludicrous. Everything changes, especially if you have a bit of weight to lose

A+ analysis, very insightful. Question on your last segment about value...I also agree that not many teams looked like Edey fits at first glance until 15, but what about OKC at 12? They're a bold FO willing to go against the grain. Edey isn't their typical "type" but he also offers something very different from the rest of the roster and could be useful to bang against the bigger centers in the league. If they had Edey against Dallas, it would've helped against the Lively/Gafford duo. I absolutely loved the Topic pick, but that was clearly a luxury +1 pick because he might not even play this year and they don't really need him this year. So theoretically they could've gone Edey as a luxury pick.

I’m glad we got a team first big. Purdue almost won the chip around Edey. Mind you I know college is different from the pros but I think that system Edey was in can a very favorable style down here in Memphis if we get behind it. I’m not saying Edey is gonna be the focal point because he doesn’t have to. With the 24-30ppg expected from ja, 18-25ppg Bane, 20 from JJJ, 10-16 from Smart, 10-18 from Clarke, we saw flashes from GG and Vince, Kennard is a straight shooter, Santi has gotten better every year. Man we don’t need Edey to be a prolific scorer we just need to 2nd chance putbacks, rebounds, and lane filler tbh

Not the biggest edey fan (that's the last time i say it because he is Grizz gang now) but i agree with Damichael that he helps our flexibility. We can now go big or small. And he's so freakin big that he can make teams go big if needed.

Glad to hear the Grizzly players standing with Edey immediately, while going into this offseason. That's major. Top10 draft All Day. He can handle his. Moves well, stamina, and not scared on defense. The rest of any transitioning will fall into place

Zach should be okay. Against certain playoff teams, like Minnesota, he might not play much. However, you have to get there first. As a regular season big, he'll be okay, in a certain role

Look at the bigs on playoff teams in the West. Edey can play against all of them. Can't nobody convince me that Adams, Nurkic, Zubac, Sabonis, Joker, and KAT who don't move well on defense can play, but Edey can't.

Imo Edey was the best option for Memphis. Even in the natty Edey dominated and kinda exposed Clingan - If you compare their second year in college Edey has better numbers - Also Edey has only been playing basketball for 6 years and has shown massive improvement each year he's played

Facts. That's a great comparison. At worst he is Steve Adams with a legit post game. His ceiling is Yao Ming which was an NBA All-Star. The difference is the Grizzlies only need him to be a 4th-5th option because they already have their 3 stars.

@@austintrousdale2397 that's the biggest thing for me. Big Men in the NBA that don't move well on defense have to be able to play on the offensive side to offset that. Edey can dominate in the post from day 1 he one of the biggest, strongest guys in the NBA.

Steven Adams is a once in a generation talent who’s different skillsets bring the absolute BEST out of a Team, on the court, off the court, Team chemistry/dynamics and the list is goes on!!! If you are a “stats guy”look at the stats of him on/off when he was ballin with Ja/Des/Trip/Brooks etc-the difference was day and night(fyi Funakistats on X has the receipts…chachinggg!!!). So in a nutshell for what Steven Adams can and has proven to bring to a Team, he reaches the top echelons for his types of skillsets-and this is not an opinion, it’s backed up by stats!!! All players bring their own uniqueness so before you go blow Steven Adams off like most have throughout his career, take a closer look at the facts before you make judgement! Hope Edey grows into his own type of beast, and looking forward to seeing him walk into a few Steven Adams screens-the best screener the NBA has ever seen lol BOOM 🚀🧨💥

1st time listener, enjoyed the show. Value or no, the Grizzlies HAD to come out of this offseason with a solution at Center. Nobody would help them trade up, they couldnt take any chances on a trade down (which I never heard anyone was open to it) especially with OKC at 12, it wouldnt have been the first time the Thunder had drafted someone just to spite us.

I don't see the big issue. Edey just need to adjust being able to get up and down the floor. I see him as a mixed of Adams & Valančiūnas. We do need another tweener PF/Center for injury purpose.

Poor pick. Would've been better drafting Knecht, Carter, Ware, or trading down to take Edey. People keep mentioning him dominating Clingan in the title game without context. He did early on, but in the crucial moments of the game in the 2nd half, Clingan shut him down. Also, Edey won't be matched up with a Clingan every night. Putting up numbers in college ≠ success in the NBA. I hope he pans out though.
