The problem is that when every piece of entertainment and sport gets split into a separate service, people have to start choosing what they are going to pay for. £10 a month for the premier league is pretty good if there’s a slick service with lots of content, but if you’re also a F1 fan paying the same for their service, a rugby fan paying to watch the Six Nations (was in the papers this morning as potentially happening), someone who pays for Netflix, someone who pays for the BBC subscription that replaces the license fee (again looking increasing likely)... suddenly all these separate services cost an absolute fortune. Football will do okay because it is the chief sport in the UK and has such a worldwide appeal, but other sports will eventually hit the fan. Sad to say this, but one day the British sports fan will look back at the Sky days with nostalgia, because at least you could pay £30 a month and have most things in one place. Now people will be paying far more to have lots of services all over the show. Be under no illusions, the sports rights bubble is a very real thing, and it’s only going to get worse.

I pay $199 (Canadian) for the Major League Baseball package from my TV cable and $90 (Canadian) for all the Boston Celtics games through the NBA streaming service. The NFL and NHL packages are each in the $199 range. They are complementary services to the matches I still get over the terrestrial and cable services that I have. Any OTT can only work outside of the UK because of the Saturday 3:00pm rule. The lower league clubs are going to fight tooth and nail to protect that rule since they depend on their gate receipts for their survival.

They wouldn’t cause it would be unfair for other teams. It would just create a big disparity in revenue which would just make the bigger more attacking teams wealthier and the rest of the league becoming less competitive in the transfer markets. Two further points. They could comfortably collect extra advertising, which would be highly attractive owing to the specific demographic targeting. Secondly, Doing this early and not being too narrow in focus could see the service include footballing from around the world, including more leagues than just PL. I think the element which holds all this up is actually the soft power media companies have in their respective nations. There would be huge resistance to this kind of move from countries which would then not see any return, with all the money coming into UK.

The pricing and service (in terms of number of games available to watch, magazine shows, documentaries and archive) benefits will be fantastic in this future. However I'm still not convinced by the quality of streaming live football. The picture quality and framerate isn't as good as dedicated TV cable, aerial or satellite broadcasts. And the time delay is only seconds, whereas with streams it's a minute at best, a few minutes at worst.

There are ways for now that one can watch all prem league matches: 1. While we are in the EU till the end of the transition period, one could sign up to RMC Sport for all matches, DAZN Germany and Sky Sport Germany for all matches or Ziggo Sport Netherlands for all prem league matches. So three EU no need for vpn matches there. Your UK card would work aswell. 2. If you have DAZN, you can set your location with VPN to Canada and get all matches. 3. Optus Sport Australia with VPN gets you all matches. 4. NBC Sports with a TV provider like Fubo TV gets you all matches but its expensive but you get other channels that show other top european football but ofc you need a VPN. 5. Hotstar in India does all but you need a VPN obviously. 6. With beIN connect for all the persian gulf aran countries you can watch all matches and ur uk card works but VPN is needed.

The Premier League only created a KZfaq channel in Aug 2019, so I can't see a global PL digital channel coming any time soon, and there's no way the service would be as cheap as £12 a month, at least not in the UK or US. It's the best idea for future PL broadcasting, but companies like Sky wouldn't be happy losing £4bn in revenue per year.

This will be the biggest issue if this would be do happen, the Premier League aren't a broadcaster and they aren't a high-tech company either, if Amazon have issues streaming with whilst using their AWS which controls/runs 34% of cloud internet infrastructure then the Premier League will really struggle to be able to even match that, even if they do it'll be costly and take years to get right. We do need a combined service though, the idea that most people here pay £30-40 per month for Sky and they still need a BT and Amazon subscription to watch the games that aren't blocked out by the 3pm blackout is absolutely stupid, it's highway robbery. £30 pound a month and they still hammer you with ads whilst making a massive profit.

There is a major issue and that's they couldn't show all games in the uk due to the 3PM Saturday embargo that exists to help the lower leagues who rely on people attending matches much more. Only way you could get that removed would be if every team outside the PL was getting a cut of the income to an amount that is significantly greater than what they would get for a full stadium. That eats into the both the amount the PL makes and how much each PL team gets and in turn that would cause prices the consumer was charged to go up. And even if the teams were happy would the Gov remove the law?

Sure it's not 4k and there can be hiccups but it's mostly just fine. I'd gladly pay for a legal option with pricing comparable to spotify/netflix, services I already pay for. Thank you. This was a very interesting video. I was wondering only a few weeks ago, why we can’t watch every Premier League game, when people in the US can, thanks to NBC. If I want to watch Tottenham on tv every week, I’d have to move to America. I figured the answer must be that the clubs don’t want every game televised, because of the negative impact it would have on attendances at the stadia. But if their revenue from broadcasting rights would far surpass their revenue from live attendance at the games, I can’t see why a deal hasn’t been made to allow us to watch every game on tv/device.

This is a great idea. However, comparing the 3bn they get now to a probable 24bn is probably incorrect. As the 3bn now is direct money, the 24bn will need to minus all the costs of actually running the ott. I also think 10£pm should work in Europe and America, but in Asia, Africa and South America this price won't work. I definitely think a tech giant will take this idea up soon though. Bt and sky are far too expensive in the UK and Ireland. Great video!

There are two channels included from Eleven Sports. They show every game from every time slot. At least 5 games are live every weekend, Saturday 1230/1500/1730, Sunday 1400/1630 plus Monday Night Football if available. Only maximum 4 games to be shown for the Mid-week games though. Tuesday and Wednesday evening live on both channels. The only down side is the quality is only 720, but I'm not going to complain since I'm only paying £2.53/month on top of the internet charge.

This Prem Flix idea is not going to work. Premier League is good at organizing football, not necessarily broadcasting and distribution. The NFL in America have their own channel called NFL Network but it is effectively run by CBS Sports. Amazon Prime has been doing NFL Thursday games for a few years but they are simulcast on NFL Network which you get if you have regular dish/cable service. This works because NFL does exist in a vacuum (no rival American football leagues) which PL doesn't. If this goes paid, what about Champions League? FA Cup? La Liga? Shouldn't they all go and get their own OTT? Before you know it, every league in the world has it's own OTT. What makes PL most watched and hence richest league in the world is accessibility to view games. NFL has always been the leader in how to monetize sports and maximizing revenue. If they are unable to do it, I doubt PL can.

I just got a Hotstar VIP membership here in India. You can watch every single PL match live. There are 4-5 simultaneous streams for 3pm Saturday and you can choose any you'd like. Full replays are available for a day or two and you can watch highlights any time. You can also live stream all their TV channels (some of which might be showing those live matches, or extra shows like Fan Zone or FPL talk, etc.). I paid Rs 365 for this (for 1 year) and I don't mind paying around the same amount for PL only as I only use this service for PL and cricket. PL in the UK is a mess with multiple channels having exclusive rights to different matches. They could fix that by removing the exclusivity perhaps? Sell partial rights to multiple channels so fans don't have to pay for 10 different channels, streaming services and a fucking shopping website, just to follow their team.

That coverage includes Peter Drury, Jim Beglin commentary and loads of fancy graphics. I pay around 13 pounds approx for that. Going by that, viewers like me will even pay 15 pounds for a more clean and guaranteed broadcast of the Premier League decides to start its owns coverage. All that money that they get from BT Sport and SKY, they will still get and will get some more if the pricing is down. It is a good idea on which the Premier League should ponder on...
