One of the first concepts that you learn as a new photographer is, 'the rule of thirds.' I'm not sure why or how this became the standard advice for people who receive their first camera, but I would like to take a moment to talk about why I don't think it really makes that mush sense in photographic composition. And, while the rule is useful at times, I think that splitting your image into thirds is the entirely wrong thing to be working on in the beginning and intermediate stages of your photographic journey.
Taking images is about a lot more than lines on a screen. In my opinion, a good image has great light, a powerful subject, and a story. These aren't met to be rules or anything, this is just what I have learned from many years of taking photographs and practicing with my camera.
I hope it's helpful!
