I recently picked up my first ever Sega Saturn (Model 1 US). Just a wee lad in the mid 90’s, I couldn’t afford all 3 major systems. I went with Nintendo and Sony. No regrets there, except that I missed out on the awesome SS library. I’m loving the system thus far (except the ridiculous prices of games…). It should be said I don’t own a PC so this was my only option. Particularly since sega has yet to release a SS mini😔

Back in the day (about 1995?), I won a Lottery and got a cash prize of about £750 as I recall). 1995. I was 20 when I got the Saturn. I had no business buying a $400 gaming console since I was so poor and really needed the money for, you know, rent, food, and saving up for tuition. Didn't matter, did it anyway... Wasn't perfect by any means, but still some very memorable times.

I’ve owned 2 different models II’s in my life. The 1st I sold off in my early 20’s with what turned out to be one of the rarer games (Saturn Bomberman COMPLETE & in Beautiful condition), then in my late 20’s when I went to college and got back into video games; I was kicking myself for selling my Saturn & the games. It would be almost a decade later before I found one again at a decent for the time price. Sadly by that point my favorite game that I sold off was hundreds of dollars to reacquire so I haven’t been able to replace that yet. Hopefully one day I can get another decent copy of Saturn Bomberman complete at an affordable/tradable price.

I had the model 2 back in the day, w/ three included games: Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Cop, & 🎶Daytona🎶 USA, plus a demo for NiGHTS into Dreams. I only got a few more games on the Saturn, Tomb Raider & some pinball game, before its motor burned out. That was the end of my Saturn days: I was in jr. high, lucky to get such a luxury item to begin w/, & any potential repair shop would've been miles & miles away. Sadly, it was my only SEGA console. But I've been a fan of their games & their distinct subculture since, especially in Gen 6.

I acquired a Sega Saturn in 1995 in a funny story. My mom was buying a big screen TV for over $2,000 bucks at Sun TV, but after ordering it, she decided it wasn’t a wise financial decision, so she cancelled the order. Bought a PS1 first, then N64, then much later a Saturn from a garage sale. *All three systems felt different for me* (at least, because of the games I owned). PS1 games felt more like linear, cinematic experiences: Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Resident Evil. The FMVs, CD audio music, and voice overs aided in that. N64 games were multiplayer fests (Goldeneye, Mario Kart, WCW/WWF games) or explorative adventures (Mario 64, Ocarina). But the Saturn felt like an arcade machine to me. I had Virtua Fighter, Daytona, Sega Rally, Street Fighter Alpha to name a few.

The Saturn to this day is still my favorite console but mostly because of the imports. The Capcom VS. games complete with ram expansion pack, Lode Runner, Death Tank (If you know, you know), Robo Pit, and of course Fire Pro Wrestling 6Men Scramble. The list goes on and on.

Have you considered modding your Saturn with an ODE? MODE, Fenrir, and the Satiator are solid options if you’re concerned about the wear of your game discs.

Good luck I did the same thing and the only game I have for it to this day is Gex. Most are too fn expensive for me to justify buying them

Been loving Saturn since it came out. Day 1 buy for me. Soooooo many good games but most of them were Japanese only. Model 2 stuff was the best imo, the console and controller just felt better built.

I was ride or die Sega growing up. Me and my brother had the Master System, while all of our friends had the NES, then we decided to go with the Genesis , while everyone else was SNES, then Saturn, and Dreamcast. Sega games just appealed to me more. I still play my Saturn regularly. It's a tight race between the Saturn and Dreamcast for my Sega console

I bought my Saturn in 1997 with the three games free pack-in. My favorite game was Guardian Heroes, because it was the greatest beat 'em up made for home consoles. Capcom impressed me with amazing 2D animations on their sprites in Megaman 8, X4, and SF Alpha 2. In the past few years, I've imported Japan only titles like Silhouette Mirage.

I still have my Saturn somewhere in storage. I believe it's the Model 1. I used to have Panzer Dragoon Saga and Shining Force III, but I sold them when they were going for a few hundred dollars

Saturn is awesome, had one as a kid but it wasn't until years later that I learned about what Japan had, as well as many NA games that I was clueless about. Lots of people who were too young don't really grasp just how obscure the Saturn was in NA. It was incredibly short lived and unless you were an adult with a real job and income, it was kind of impossible to know what was out there for it. Saturn is home to legitimately some of the best games from that generation. Especially when it comes to SRPGs and 2D games. The Saturn community is doing great work with translating things and making homebrew. A small team recreated the first few levels of Unreal. Created the assets and everything from the ground up, it's so impressive. Panzer Dragoon Saga too, everyone says it but that game really is impressive beyond belief. It's not the GOAT or anything like that but it is a total masterpiece and honestly is really similar in how lots of AAA games are made these days; hyper cinematic, pretty linear, straight forward upgrade system, not too difficult, high production values, etc. Really ahead of it's time. It's a shame it died before more developers could harness it's potential.
