FINALLY! A computer mouse I can really call a "gaming" mouse, because of it having actual gaming benefits. Yea I may be coming in years later after release, but I cannot deny that I have not seen anything this complex in structure, in the current mice market as of 2021. Don't believe me? Why not listen for yourself. (This has been quite the video in the making for months).

Just discovered this mouse and it is 100% right up my alley. Then I saw that it came out 4 years ago (where the hell was I???) and started getting worried that if I got one and fell in love with it, there was a huge risk of it being EOL'd sooner than later and I would be back at the "whelp, my favoritest mouse ever just died and I can't replace it" point that I've been in many times over the years, so it's good to see that they don't plan on discontinuing it any time soon!

Actually they won't be discontinuing it, BUT according to their website, they may go out of stock for a while (or worse forever) cause of supply chain issues raising the price of the components. So I'd hurry and get one while they last!

I've been using my Swiftpoint Z for years now, and is by far the best mouse I have ever owned. I signed up to back the Z2 the day it went live. The developers have a community on Facebook where they take direct feedback from users. I've enjoyed being a part of the conversation there and am excited to see the final product.

I was reminiscing about my Swiftpoint Z which died an early death to water damage back in 2018(?), when I found this video. I never even knew they updated the software, something I wished for dearly. Well that and true Linux support. But 1 of 2 is good enough... You really made want to buy another Swiftpoint Z, though 180€ in DE is a bit much at the moment. I also must say I'm really impressed with the quality of this video and the audio. At first I thought this video would be of low to mediocre quality (due the low views) but I was quite pleasantly surprised, so thank you for your effort.

I wish that they update this mouse something in the future. I'd like to have good switches, especially on the wheel. Metal feet is also incredible, feels like mouse is flying above the mouse pad (like on my Bloody J90). Also more polling rate for the future.

While I have to say that you seem fairly ignorant of the technicalities of modern gaming mice (Which is understandable, as they overwhelmingly tend to be focused on competitive fps players), this video was a lovely bit of additional perspective on what I still consider one of the coolest & most useful multi-purpose mice out. Seeing that you reviewed both the Wooting HE & this back to back while giving them as much credit/appreciation as they deserve was fantastic to see. Even as one or the other runs into the many difficulties of being a smaller fish in a big market, their dedication to actually attempting to push forward interesting tech into a fairly repetitive field is highly commendable. Anyway. Thanks I guess :) P.S. - Double analog is the shit- so glad at least one dude is trying it out. :D

This is one of the most underrated gaming mice out there. I can only believe that the gaming peripherals industry is doing their best to keep gaming media from talking about this mice -- maybe because they are salty about the patents. Or maybe the gaming press is just kind of forgets about this gem since it is a 5+ year old product. It's a disservice because if you game across multiple genres (MOBA, MMO, FPS) and don't need to be extreme in your demands in any of them other than having convenient and natural feeling buttons, this is the mouse to get! If you're looking for a "lot of buttons" mouse for MMO usage, this is one of the best mouse over the two you called out -- I tried the Corsair. I purchased in 2018 (or 19?), and used the original software and it was completely fine. In fact, it's basically the "advanced" interface that exists today and I still prefer to use it. Not supporting XInput is not a substantial problem in my opinion. I've been a gamedev by hobby and have written consider DirectInput 7-8.1 code for multiple projects. I explored bumping up to XInput until I realized what it is: believe it or not, XInput is somewhat less capable than DirectInput. DirectInput supports up to 128 buttons per device, XInput only supports 12 or 13. The reason being is that XInput dogmatic in limiting all controllers to the functionality of an XBox360 controller and I'm dead serious about this. There are some features of an XBox360 controller that exceed DirectInput's capabilities, but they are rather specific, and not game changing in any way. It's a clear case of Microsoft trying to create an API to force people into their world view. I am a flight simmer and have a high end HOTAS(throttle and stick) with a ton of buttons, hat switches, and axes. Games like Battlefield 3 and 4 that use XInput do not work well with my gear at all -- unless I use my gear's software to emulate or map to other devices.

i think the thing is that, FPS games are incredibly common and beloved, and that's what the vast majority of gaming mice cater to. shape and weight are important for aim, and wireless lets you not have to worry about your cable ever hitting against anything. all these features are cool, but this would be a pretty shitty mouse to use for competitive FPS (and any other genre that emphasizes aim), compared to all the modern mice you compared it to, those games require a less is more approach for maximum performance. it's undoubtedly cool, but it seems mostly impractical to me. i guess i'm just not the target audience
@Sparkrdom

You nailed it! I'm very glad to see a mouse not catering to just MMOs and FPS games, and really going for something multi-genre for casual gamers like me who want something more premium than just a G700 or something like that. Mad respect to the FPS gamers out there who are way more talented than I am, and can strive for that maximum performance.

i bought this and for the same stuff in the promo video, didnt like they removed the case, the bungie, the mousemat and now bc of you, the removable cable! but its a damn good mouse, after paying so much i returned it bc the game profile wasnt great (play game, tab out, tab back > game no longer focus'd so all the bindings got ignored, worse, pivot in games like elite dangerous needed a key to be held for pivot. I returned it bc of the rubber being overly sticky and then you check their forums and LOADS of people have this, even replacing it with grip tape. They makers themselves, even on amazon said they'd replace it which is why im gonna trade in the razer basilisk ultimate to give this thing another try. I hope it works out for me this time

It's really cool. But i think an issue is how slow accessing a lot of the features are. Fine for something like photoshop or similar. But gaming? Only a handful of the buttons are really usable. For a shooter you only need a few buttons that any gaming mouse supplies so this mouse is overkill. But games that requires a lot of buttons like RTS or MMOs, accessing the buttons is just too slow. Then imagine the strains of incorporating tilt actions...

The shape has always been my favorite of all since the M65 Vengeance about 10 years ago, and with the optical switches, AXON SoC and 8khz polling on the Ultra, I feel it's fast enough to be an upgrade over the input freedom of the Z, for me at least.

steam controller is prob the first hardware that brought this stuff in
@xaytana
@xaytana Жыл бұрын
I can't find any information of the deep click stuff at the hardware level, and I can't find any good teardowns of the mouse, I've only found two partial teardowns so far and none of the Tracer. I'm not familiar with Wooting's DKS either, but I do know they're known for their analog key switches. From what I can tell from the partial teardowns of this mouse, there's the haptic motors under the switch board for the six top buttons that have deep click, this board doesn't have anything besides these buttons and the scroll wheel, then the top shell has a ribbon cable in it that disappears into the plastics. Unless there's an FSR hidden under the plastics in the top shell, I don't get how the deep click works, there's really no other component that'd allow for analog-like functionality. I just want to know what kind of sensor these mice are using for their force sensitivity, FSRs make the most sense but I don't see how they're packing six of them into such a small space, maybe a rubber dome with a capacitive board, but then the buttons should feel mushy and I haven't heard them described as such.

@@xaytana it's not a trigger?
@xaytana
@xaytana Жыл бұрын
@@jex-the-notebook-guy1002 Doesn't look to be in any way. Analog triggers are typically long throw components, which is why modern ones use hall effect sensors, pre-modern (and still common among cheaper third party controllers) used potentiometers, with Sony being the major outlier of using a variable resistor with a carbon strip. The only relation that the Swiftpoint Deep Click could have to a trigger is a variable resistor like Sony's design, though I doubt this is the case due to construction and reliability. Which is why I think it's an FSR, which is another variable resistor type but _much_ more durable, plus it's more or less an off the shelf part, Sony's carbon strip variable resistor is an entirely custom piece; which is why they use it, they're already spinning up custom flexible circuits for use in their controllers, have since the PS1 era. Whereas a more relevant controller design would be the Valve Index, which uses an FSR for thumb tracking, as the thumb is not based on a proximity sensor like the fingers are, but rather is a touchpad for detection and FSR for placement, similarly an FSR is used within the grip of the controller for grip detection while the prox sensor is for finger tracking; the Steam Deck also uses an FSR for the click function on its trackpads. The Steam Controller however only uses a tact switch under its trackpads for a true click. Stemming from this, trackpads can also provide a similar function, as can touch screens, by essentially measuring the size of your finger/thumb pad under touch, more pressure equates to larger contact; but due to the lack of truly measuring your pad size between light presses and hard presses, which would require additional logic and programming overhead, pseudo pressure sensitivity is a bit jank, which is why the Steam Deck and Valve Index use a proper FSR under their pads. Which leads into the questioning of Swiftpoint's design, the buttons themselves are not touch sensitive themselves, carbon strip variable potentiometers like what Sony uses wouldn't be the best solution in this case especially when you consider that everyone will have different finger placements and not to mention lack of robustness, which also brings into question where the transducer is actually located, are they under the buttons before the microswitch or are they under the microswitch where the microswitch PCB would be free-floating above the transducer that would be placed on a rigid PCB (which would also rule out triggers, triggers that are analog plus digital are always an analog throw before a full-pull tact switch, if this mouse is doing the opposite, and does look to be using the opposite, this would mean that the digital click comes before analog input); so far, everything logically points to an FSR, but I'm lacking information to confirm this, nobody has a thorough teardown of the various Swiftpoint mice that have Deep Click. I'll probably have to go diving through some patents and hope that they're detailed enough to give me an answer.
