Hello everyone, I hope you are all keeping safe and well! Please follow the advice of the medical Professionals and practice social distancing. Here in southern Germany we are in almost total lockdown, all none essential businesses and gathering points have been closed, including bars, restaurants and sport facilities. For those of you in countries that have not yet been so badly affected, you might be able to avoid this by acting now.

He’s correct on every tip there is one tip that never gets mentioned is the release at the moment of impact of the stroke . At the moment of impact your hands should be in same position as when your start and the speed of the stoke is crucial and lite release just after you stroke the ball

this video has fundamentally changed not only my putting but my golf swing as a whole. He gave me level 1 insight and I found out the other 2, 3 layers (hope I can find the other 4, 5 and how many other layers there are in the golf swing during my lifetime). But if you can't find the 2, 3 layers that are buried within this video, I suggest you get lessons from Mr. Taylor. And if you establish a good relationship with him, I'm sure he can guide you to the other 4, 5 layers way more quickly than the average golfer.

Rocking the shoulders up and down eliminates domination by one side AND it eliminates arm and wrist motion just to get to the desired ending position. Much more confident rolling it down the line with consistent accuracy.

This finally is the video I’ve been looking for. I’m a pretty good putter but I tend to pull putts, Without any rhyme or reason, and I know why now. I was swinging past the crunch, flexion, part of the putter swing. Now I just swing to the end part and hold my finish and I’ve been putting so much better. Thank you for this video

Brilliant! What I like about this video is the lack of explanation of individual technique to get to the position. Having the goal of getting to the position will allow someone to attempt to reverse engineer their stroke. You even mentioned that. If I couple this video with the other I just watched about hand position when putting ( also your video ), I have quite a delicious recipe for confidence on the greens. People.... this man knows what he’s talking about and he should have 400k subscribers...not 40k... excellent content!

I’ve always tried to reach this position but I always did it visually. Golf is a game of feel and this feeling is what I was missing. I went straight to the golf course immediately. I was able to repeat solid strokes time and time again as long as l maintained the feeling. Great tip!

Agree with this as i do it especially on longer putts, but ive always thought holding the follow through is as much mental as physical!Try to connect to the roll of the ball,like its on a wire,focussing on this position and the roll of the ball will connect you with consistent pace ,which together with a square face is the secret of good putting.

the challenge with this method is that to do it you have to trust your hands not to get involved. in stroking the ball. The shoulders do it. If you can trust the shoulders and quiet the hands this method works.

Thanks for all you do ! This video helped me to use/feel "both sides" left/right equally during the stroke. Not sure if this is recommended, but for me - one side always took over the other. When feeling both sides equally ...... it matches up with your full golf stroke training. I can feel it. Finally, what an awesome video link you added to Nelson James (below) . Respectfully.

Kevin Murphy unless putting is a glaring weakness then it should be the least practiced. Approach shots, drives ( long game) then short game...then putting. Mark Broadie and Erik Barzeski have clearly shown this to be factual in their books ‘Every Shot Counts’ and ‘ Lowest Score Wins’ respectively.

THIS WORKS. Practice it and trust me it really does. I spent an hour on my deck practicing the stroke and went out for a round a bit after and putted the best I ever had. I swear I made 8 long distance putts and 17 short range putts. I even made the 18th hole putt from 10ft. I felt like tiger sinking a masters putt for the win!!

Congratulations, I believe you are just as obsessed (or more) with analytical detail as I am, and I love it! Lol This video covers the stroke in extensive detail. Now we need to cover how to line it up to where you can consistently and physically see the line with confidence, then being left to judge how hard to swing the putter for the chosen line. I have recently discovered a reliable method for seeing the line consistently for me (and can prove it with results) and presently use an equal back and through length of swing for a given length of putt through testing similar to one used for partial wedge shots. Slope would also be needed to be addressed obviously, but a consistent method where your only concern is speed would be extremely beneficial. I would love to hear your analysis of these steps in future videos, or maybe you can direct me to previous videos that cover this. Thanks

I have read that there are 2 types/ways of aiming putter square to target.Work out which type you are,I like to aim the top of the putter face at right angles to target line.Most people seem to prefer aiming lines on the putter along the target line,get a putter to suit.

That’s a great video. Keep helping us hackers to become golfers. You should get a job on the Golf Channel where you could show the world your great teaching methods and replace the golf babes and the so called teachers who try to teach with their show and tell crap. Boring!! A Real golfer just need to be tweaked ever so slightly as your teaching methods do to help us. You and Chuck Cook are the only two that I know of, that teach this way. Watch his video, shoulder to the wall, shoulder to the ball, shoulder to the target. So simplistic but the only way to hit the ball with effortless power and precision. Thanks again for what you do to get golfers back to playing golf and not goof!

This really resonated with me. I could see how my stroke breaks down as my arms disconnect from my body. I literally have two different motions going on in my stroke at the same time. There is only a tiny intersection of the two motions that I must get to and time perfectly to return the putter to the ball on line and square. Wow. Your explanation of the two opposing muscle groups is genius. This is the first time I can say that I can truly visualize the proper motion I’m trying to achieve. Brilliant. I will never be the same again. Thank you.

Generally speaking if a low hdcp has around 27 putts and hit around 13 greens you are going to be under par.

To me the best way to putt is the bobby locke way: ball off the toe, inside takeaway, outside downswing and bang it off the middle of the face! More feel in the hands and makes you accelerate the putter. Hit down on the ball with little to no followthrough, cover the ball. On downhills forget the sweetspot, use the toe. Great info! I teach golf too. To me, this is part of the square back square through stroke that I think is best. I do teach to reach this position to insure the square hit through the ball. Of course, for long putts you must arc your back stroke a little for comfort, but you must still reach this position in the follow through for putting accuracy.

I actually have become a putting nerd now since being away from the game for a few years. Starting rewiring my brain on the correct method and process. I started doing this process a few days ago. It works. Makes everything and ball rotates / rolls beautiful and i make so many putts. If i miss its due to stupid things that i do that has nothing to do with this video which is seldom. Was makeing 50ft putts the other day which was amazing. Thanks Johnathan. My question is im a visual person with the process. At impact whats a good visual to think of in regards to shaft and leg matching

Maybe I'm wrong but I completely disagree with the idea of "rocking" the shoulders rather than "rotating". You rotate your shoulders around your spine just the same as with any other shot in golf. As the shoulders rotate, the lead shoulder will dip down on the backswing and will raise up on the follow-through. From the front view this will look a bit like "rocking" but it's just the result of the shoulders turning while bent over with your spine at an angle.

Jonathan, what parts of the position can you alter to further close or open face at impact ? I tend to have an open face at impact, and would like to know how to better close it.

Better is square but if you are finding that you deliver the club face in the position but regularly in the same open or closed position, I would look at your grip.

Great content. Question: is there any correlation between ball position and eyes? I’m left eye dominant and have been putting with the ball off my left front toe. I’ve always had trouble finding the confidence I need to roll in 4-6 birdies a round consistently. I’ve recently started to play the ball off the back right heel and it feels as if the arc of my stroke occurs earlier, and it seems to suit my eyes better. Would love your thoughts!

It is more important to think of where the ball lies in relation to the axis of your swing (this can change dependent on wrist action). If the axis is the center of your chest the deepest point in your swing is opposite the center of your chest and a ball opposite your right heel would be hit in the downswing, a ball opposite your left heel in the up swing.

I watched this great video recently and then I tried the technique at my local club. I have to say that the improvement in my putting stroke was immediately obvious, particularly on those shorter, tricky clutch putts. Thank you. Get yourself a putter fitting once the technique is solid. There is no one putter I would recommend without seeing you.

Hi Jonathan I’ve just been watching a recent video on KZfaq which contains very similar material to yours like word for word in places. Either way and thank you as it is really excellent advice. Ok I’m a lousy leftie putter that thought all I had to do was copy Brad S and pop putt my way to victory. Pop putting is good well until you lose a little confidence than bang! Now with a mix of styles I’ve really lost my way and three putts are so regular. I like the controlled finish point but my question is how far over the ball should I be. At 5’6” I’m not Michelle Wee but I am over the top will definite angles with my wrists. Today I tried putting taller with no angles but the direction control not so good. Any comment on wrist angles or do you advocate a taller straighter wrists and forearms. Thanks again from a crap putter!

The key is consistency, the majority of Professionals have their lead eye over the ball or within 2 ball widths inside the target line. To stop the 3 putts, concentrate on holing out from 3ft and less and then on distance control to get your approach putt within the 3 ft.
