I bought a 2010 S80 in 2013. It now has over 130k miles on it and I swear, I have not had ONE single problem with it. Never had such a reliable car in my life.

Agree, Volvos of this era, seem to have been a sweet spot. Or am I just saying that as the owner of a similar engined V70. My car's paint work lets it down abit, otherwise its pretty darn good. My second P3 V70. Both had to have exhaust sensors change (threw up code) and their radiators changed (very small leak). When I bought second V70 made sure I got one with Xenon headlamps. But also the lamps have active bending so they swivel as you go round corners / junctions. Reversing camera displaying on the pop out screen. Radar cruise control - very useful. Car will slow down and match the speed of car in front. BLIS for detecting cars in your blind spot. Lane monitoring and driver alertness. So it will bleep if you wander across lanes without indicating - do it too often and it will suggest you pull over for a break and a coffee. Electric boot lid. Has the PCC. So full keyless entry and start. Keep key in the pocket. Pull the handle and the car will unlock. On the 4 door handles are black rubber buttons, press one of these and will lock. To start the car don't have to put the key in the dash, just press the start stop. As you say winter pack - heated washers, heated seat (there is an option to have cooled seats as well - as well as heated seats on the rear bench) - in addition on the V70 the rear side screens are heated as well. I have two kids who would normally need car seats fitted, but my V70 has the built in booster cushions in rear bench so we just use them. Agree the sat nav really dates the car - but you can set it on mine so the screen does not come up or only comes up when reversing (for camera). So keep your eyes out you can get a car with a lot of useful kit. Ok so must stuff is pretty standard fit to newer cars thes days, but they weren't 11 years ago when this car was new. So all in all, apart from a couple of well know issues. Keep to the Volvo engines and not the PSA ones. Steer clear of the ford automatic if you have to get the 1.6d and you can't go wrong. A lot of car for little money, that if you look after it, should do over 200k miles or maybe more without too much hassle.

Coming from a truck, I picked up an s80 t6 awd a few months back and I’ve already put on 2k+ miles in the short time I’ve had it. Very comfortable and it doesn’t beat you up at all. Ready for winter with my awd too

Agree! I have that 1st gen P2 S80 you speak to... T6/US spec. Love it... it continues to love me back 200,000 miles + and 18 years later. I've taken good care, and she almost still looks and rides new. Nice review of your ride!

I'm daily driving a 240 wagon (2litre, manual, 1992). Your videos really got me interested in an S80, will probably keep the 240 in a dry storage and take it out on nice days.

Agree with you about the value for money as I'm currently running an XC60 from 2009 with 120k. Runs very smoothly and the auto gearbox is great after having it serviced. I can see this running for a few years yet 🙂

Paid £2800 for my 2009 V70 R Design around 6 months ago with 123K miles, and have spent around £700 on a few issues since. Its a 134 2.0d which isnt super quick but getting 50mpg. Great cars for the money 👍

Paid £14k for a 2013 plate S80 1.6 litre, back in 2015. This was already about half-price. We kept the car up until March of 2022. It had been an exceptionally comfortable car. The only issue we had, was that the servicing was just stupidly expensive! It was far more expensive to service than a Mercedes we had previously owned, and we were tired of being ripped off all the time. The point is that we sold our S80 for £4,000 after 7 years ownership so cost us less than £2000 in depreciation per year, which these days is exceptional value. Just make sure you have a friendly cost effective Volvo service centre.

Great video, I have an '08 S80 on 160k miles and the only thing that let's it down is a bit of turbo lag at low revs (single turbo D5) and a stiff manual gear change. Such a comfortable, quiet motorway cruiser though!

I have an 07 S80 awd v8 , it’s immaculate only had one owner before me and I love it , I have an e430 Mercedes yet I prefer to drive the Volvo, people think it’s much later than an 07 because it looks so modern , I drove a 2019 s60 and wouldn’t upgrade from the s80 . What a bargain what a car

Enjoy your videos. I recently bought a one owner from new 2012 version, but based on the fact it was from a Volvo dealer, low mileage, full Volvo history, mint and a top spec Executive model I paid quite a bit for it! Can I ask what those 4 LED type lights are in the front grill on yours as they look like those of an ex Police car? This might explain the worn leather seats, as been sat in more than driven!

My son's S80 2009, 1997cc is a superb, very economical,(it's manual)car and handles beautifully. The only drawbacks so far have been the o/s/r door locking motor packed up. Volvo part is £450+, so I had to buy a second hand one for £80, & fitted it myself. Then the dipped beam lights failed one at a time. It turned out to be a part that powers the bulbs which again was £430+. Something I was not able to repair myself, unfortunately. But the leather interior is superb & smells like a very expensive car. A brilliant car.

Great cars...I run an XC60 D5 AWD AUTO 2012. It's a 1 owner car with full Volvo service history and just on 91k. I get 31 mpg around town and late 40s on the motorway. Every time I drive this car I love it more and more. I have been a Volvo owner for 30 years and driven every variant of this great car.

I've two Volvos an S60 2005 & V70 2012. The S60 has 115k and drives like new albeit the suspension a bit rough sometimes. I'm the second owner at paid 5k 10years ago. I've just fitted new brake discs, pads and calliper around. Tempted to sell it now as now looking for something newer. The V70 has 106k ,had this from new excellent car drives like new 215bhp, has sport mode which is great for overtaking. Has built in sat nav. To many cars have too many bells and whistles which takes the fun and skill out of driving. I want to drive not the car drive me. Both cars are auto and diesel.

Yeah my 2009 s80 is great! The only thing is during an MOT it had a broken shock absorber but apparently my particular car had some kind of active suspension which meant I had to get the part from Volvo at over 200 quid rather than a bog standard euro parts part.

Same platform…different model, I’m loving my XC70. 2.0 (5 cylinder) D3 2WD diesel. Average mileage for 10yo car. Fairly economical given its size. Supremely comfortable. Handling corners is interesting!Amazingly safe. Wasn’t a “mega bargain”. …and have had to throw a bit of money at it…but worth it in my view. @DriveTime - weren’t you looking at XC70s??

I would argue that the S80 is a better buy than the V70. The V70 commands a premium for its versatility, yet it is surprising just how versatile the S80 actually is. I recently commented about a flat pack furniture trip where my 2016 S80 easily swallowed a full length wall unit, it has since surpassed itself with a 168 litre fish tank and unit as well as passengers. At the time I bought my S80 the equivalent V70 was at least £5k more expensive. Is it worth the extra £5k? Will anyone get that outlay back? Plus they're really the last of the era where the essential equipment is controlled by physical buttons than portrait style tablet. Reassuring that if one part ceases to work the rest will. I'm glad I got out of the PCP cycle. Get a well cared for one while they're still reasonably priced and underrated and you'll bag an absolute bargain.

I agree on this as well. I got the S80 V8 Exec and even I sometimes camp in it with the seats flat. The seats don't fold exactly flat so you might want to figure out a way to make your sleeping area flat, but it still remains a full length and width sleeping space. I share it with a rottweiler and it is quite comfy. The double glazing and proper isolation seem to really keep the warmth inside. I even slant the sunroof to cool it down in almost 0 C weather. All in all a V70 would make for a little more comfort, but not worth the trade off of a V8 and all that Exec goodness.

Maybe the Volvo S80 does not have such a high status in the UK. then people demand that a car should at least have an auxiliary input so that they can listen to Spotify or be able to connect an MP3 player. they probably also require Bluetooth. unfortunately, a Volkswagen that is just as old is probably more modern. When it comes to parking assist or Cruise Control, for example. and info system

It's easy to say it's a bargain when you only paid £1500 your talking £3600- £4300 for a 2008/2010 auto with like 140,000 -200,000 miles right now source motors UK it's a 13 yr old car , I have dyspraxia , autism which affects my cognitive connection like being not being able change gears with out actually looking at them the mind muscle connection is not there for me it's a big thing huge accompl, . I can only physically drive an auto , so I don't have a choice but to pay slot more for the auto version yet there's people buying autos that don't even need them and that are physically able to drive a manual selfish *** i which pushed prices up even more and choices of autos is slim right now the same other cars there's barely any autos prices are ridiculous , some people need auto to be able drive , have freedom get things done my hey can't physically drive manual I don't mean people choosing auto because it's easier I me as n they would be so dangerous driving a manual due to no fault of their own
Why I CAN’T sell my Volvo!
