Indeed. Refusing to say yes to everything has made me a better negotiator. It's frightening at first to say "no" to your superiors but once you do it they respect you all the more for it.

I started working in B2B sales recently. The fear of my client saying "no" was chilling enough to avoid picking up the call. But one of my colleague just asked me, what's the worst thing they could, "no" and that's not the end of this world. This did not just change my confidence in my career,but in my day to day life too. Again this talk gives better insight to this topic. Thanks for the talk.

You can alter your environment so that it nourishes you. Start with something little, like leaving out your journal and a pen. Or having a clean teacup ready. Or a blanket that has a soothing scent. Or a clear path to the window to let in some fresh air. All these details may sound tiny, but don’t underestimate how things add up. Sow tiny habits into your day as silent as an unnoticed breeze.

It's called convenience and yes it has major effects on our habits and actions. People need to learn about convenience and perception and harness it's power, Apple does this at their HQ. For example making it easier to eat healthy food rather than less healthy food, even if it only takes you a few more seconds to get the unhealthy food makes you way more likely to pick the healthy food. An example is to put all the healthy food the first thing you see when you open your fridge and put the junk food in behind it or in an inconvenient location. There's endless use cases and examples.

omg, being an English learner it was so hard to understand what she's saying, especailly some of those native word like lowball or hand-wringing (last one even subtitles couldn't defien correctly). So I think I need some easier for now. Don't pay attention on this comment I'm just trying to improve my skills)

It seems like people are commenting without listening to Dia Bondi's TED talk. Question: What is the definition of "ZoFO"? What is the function of "no" in her examples? Who says no? Is it her or the person to whom she pitches the "ASK"?
@RichardCurryO

ZoFO ... getting to "no", then dialing down just one notch to "yes".

I said “no” to the American system a long time ago. Working away my time and life is a huge “no” . I’ve been “using the system” for 43 years and haven’t worked at all but for a few early years before I learned to say no to “the man”. It’s awesome! Unlimited time and free resources just for the asking. I’ve left absolutely nothing on the table. Thank you all for making this possible! ..guess I’ll go golfing…

Just watch out with that mentality, you maybe abusing people-pleasers, the people who have a hard time saying "no" to others. I know what it's like to be a victim of those "auctioneers" who are very comfy in their zofos, I call them "freeloaders" they push and push looking what they can get away with. They aren't thankful for special favors i did for them, they praise themselves for being so gutsy.

This can backfire badly. If you ask too much in salary, you don't get hired!. If you want to get a contract and you bid wrong, you don't get it. What you want, you might not get. You don't want no. Because no stays no. Sorry, wrong advice!
