Because a cars sale value brand new isnt an indicator of its resale market value? Resale market value depends on the markets value for the car which is impacted by multiple factors the brand new price is cost of development, manufacture, delivery and the fact its new so as seen in most cases a car costs significantly more brand new than it does second hand

Pre rona depreciation was represented in sales price for some vehicles. Compare an Acccord to a Chevy Malibu. Same class of vehicle that can be similarly equipt for the same MSRP, but no one was paying MSRP for the Malibu, and people were paying close to MSRP for the Accord. The resale value of the Malibu is terrible, but the Accord's is awesome. Also, look at Toyota Tacoma vs Chevy Colorado again pre rona. Compare new sale prices of Jaguar XJ's to S Classes and 7 Series' they are lower and the resale value is lower. When dealing with resale value, it should be looked at vs. other vehicles in its class. Not as a whole. I agree car pricing makes no sense.

Been the new owner for over a year now, have had absolutely zero problems,mechanic said it’s in amazing shape, no issues at all. and honestly nothing about it is expensive,for a vintage classic Benz everything is absolutely affordable. All that Bullshyt about parts being expensive....is 100% referring only to BRAND NEW MERCEDES, but only absolute dummies are getting those & they can’t actually afford them plus they don’t even own them, they get loans and blah blah blah. Just because the cars are leased doesn't mean they're thrashed 😂 the issue is poor preventative maintenance and accidents. Also, the reason for the depreciation is because of the short warranty and the fact that after about a year, something electronic starts to go bad. Out of warranty, trying to fix any of the electronic issues can be done costs tends of thousands, just so your active seat bolsters work properly. Then you have the cost of any work, parts, etc

The secret to owning a used Benz...do your own maintenance and repair. Edit: It's got the Sport Package...2-tone leather seats, stiffer suspension, 16" alloy wheels, flip down back seats...I can sell it for $5k easy at this point...😉

Most people are scared of the maintenance and running cost like premium fuel. Plus if you can't afford it new it won't make sense to buy it used unless it's not getting driven much. For me every car depreciates so it doesn't really matter when its got nearly 200k miles in 5-7 years. Even the most notorious value holders drop when you get to that point since they're hard to get financing and most don't want that kind of mileage due to reliability and more repairs.

It's not the leasing that is the main reason. It's the poor reliability over time and the insane repair costs
@channell11
@channell11 29 күн бұрын
There are multiple reasons. The leasing means there's a lot of them on the market. They are also used extensively for car service/livery business. They are also a status symbol, and people that buy them turn them in after a couple years for the next technologically advanced model. Expensive repairs out of warranty is just another factor that drags down value after supply/demand has done its job.

When I used to own a Mercedes I kept on bringing it the shop once a month for repairs. I asked my mechanic if there anything that’s good and he said just the engine, everything else you will have to replace. He just smiled. He did some replacements for free since he saw me so often. Was happy when I got rid it. Spent $14k in 18 months about 15 years ago.

Exactly, people love to run their mouths about how pricy the replacement parts and labor are, but completely ignore the fact that they're ordering 30-70$ worth of parts for their truck *every week.* In 4 years of ownership, I had to replace 1 part on my 2002 Mercedes. One. Other than break pads, fluids, and tires, I spent 800$ on repairs total. I upgraded to a 2016 and have spent $0 on the car since I bought it, except for gas ⛽️.

Typically, older cars are less expensive to insure, regardless of what it is, as long as the current value of the vehicle is less than a late model car. Insurance doesn’t pay for all the mechanical issues that pop up on these cars, so they don’t care

From experience driving a classic 1994 C280 myself as my first car in my life, unless you want to bankrupt yourself or if you’re really that rich for the newer Benz cars, stick to the old ones to offset that upfront cost. The maintenance on my C280, just for parts like the water pump alone, costed more than a pump that goes on a domestic or Japanese branded vehicle, despite the cheap upfront cost for the car itself. Consider your financial capability first before committing to a German luxury car.

I buy and sell cars for living and what many people fail to realize is that those S class benzs' require a major service/maintenance at 50k-70k miles which require power steering (TQ),differential and transmission fluid replacement. Along with service on the transfer case. Alot of people forgo that service and it causes an accumulation of issues, they always run through the auction with (50k-80kmiles) for much cheaper than the MSRP but often come with a $10-15k maintenance cost to repair those issues which more than often have ballooned into even more.

Leased cars usually are in pretty good shape. If you go to turn in a leased car and it’s thrashed at all you, the person leasing will pay for all the repairs…. It’s in all leasing agreements. If you’re going to buy a used car, than you want to get one that was leased.
