I weighed our new van at 3470kg unloaded 🤣 full of diesel and adblue with basics on board with no water (full spec and every option including auto) so oops… plated up to 4250 now!

Greetings from Finland from a Finnish caravanner. This video was great! I am not sure if that 3500 kg thing in Europe comes from Geneva agreement 1949 or Vienna agreement 1968, but it's totally crazy. The vehicles and roads were something totally different those times and that 3500 kg hasn't been updated ever! Of course it's very easy to raise the licence class to C1, but that weight limit for B is still crazy low. In the USA you can drive 7.5 US ton vehicle which is about 6800 kg with a passenger car driving licence.

Thanks. Yes the weight limits are totally crazy. In the UK if you passed your driving test before 1st January 1997 you were given a ‘C1’ entitlement which allowed driving vehicles up to 7500kgs. However, when you reach 70 you are required to have some tests every 3 years to keep that entitlement. In UK we think everything looks big in America and to be fair, they have bigger roads to cope.

Thanks Paul for your informative video. We were concerned about this so took our 2022/23 auto model to a weighbridge fully laden for a 2 month trip including 2 bikes, 1 adult and 100l of water as well as a full tank of diesel. We anticipated, given the information circulating, that we would be well over and have to jettison some things. However, we discovered we were only 3240kg giving us another 260kg to play with. Very relieved!! If you ever want to see our van you are welcome. We’re based near Edinburgh although currently touring in Scandinavia (underweight!)

That is great to hear. It does suggest either RT have simply got the numbers wrong or, as confirmed by their sales manager, correct on vehicles with the heavy chassis. Would love to review the later van. If only we were touring Scandinavia… not jealous at all 🤔🤦♂️😂👍

If it works for you, we could be passing Birmingham on our way home around the 9th July. It would be great to meet you. Cheers

@@garrymacdonald8613 wow. That is a great offer thank you. We are ‘hopefully’ in Germany early July but thank you for the kind offer.

I'm on this at the moment. Just removed a heafty towbar that we don't use, and considered it unsafe due to the distance from the rear axle. My biggest problem is the Mrs won't tell me her weight! 😅
@LiveforTravel3 ай бұрын
I agree I would be concerned about the weight (distance over the rear axle… not the wife 😂). Too easy on many vans to exceed the weight limit too.

There are some discussions about this on a facebook group. They have been provided with a certificate from Roller Tram suggesting that this includes a weight for liquids (63kg) plus 300kg for passengers (4 x 75kg each). They have checked at a weigh bridge with everything in and only coming out way lower than 3,500kg. So there appears to be conflicting stories. I’m waiting for my new model to arrive so I’m hoping not as tight……..

Payload - the very reason we abandoned buying a usable motorhome. Almost everyone is driving non compliantly.

So have you got this wrong about the weights from the comments on here?
@LiveforTravel6 күн бұрын
@@01chittock the question isn’t if I got it wrong but has Roller Team got it wrong. Their website gives the detail and this was confirmed, by them, by email.

@@LiveforTravel yes I would really like to know, as the motor home I have been looking at is this brand! Maybe will have to do some more homework on it! But I do come under the c1 on my driving license, so I will be able to drive a heavier vehicle! One of a few benefits or being older lol
@LiveforTravel5 күн бұрын
@@01chittock the only thing with the C1 is it needs a medical when you are 70 and another every 3 years. I think it is likely Roller Team have overstated it. Has to be some benefit as you said about being older.
