Making their home in the Indo-Pacific seas 🌊, mudskippers are entirely unique creatures. There are twenty-four species of this amphibious fish, including the blue- and gold-spotted varieties, and all of them have adapted to live on land. ↠Subscribe: kzfaq.info...
But what exactly does a fish look like out of water? And what special features enable it to enjoy this unusual lifestyle? Our latest video dives into the tropical mudflats and mangroves to explore and discover how these bizarre-looking creatures have evolved to survive.

@forlorn9134
@forlorn9134 3 жыл бұрын
Probably not. These fish fill a very specific niche that they are specialized for. Unless there is a major change to the ecosystem that may cause animals that fill certain niches (in which it is beneficial to have fully formed legs) to go extinct then I don't see these animals evolving in that way. They have no reason to. There are already animals that currently fill that spot.

What about their respiratory organs along with cutaneous respiration are they lungs or gills
@terramater
@terramater 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Satyarth 👋🏻, Good question! As well as breathing through their gills while in water on land, mudskippers can absorb oxygen directly from the air; through their skin and through the lining of their mouth - which is why they are often seen ‘gulping’ air.

Personally, I think these creatures (along with lungfish) are different enough from actual fish that they deserve their own kind of grouping - not quite fish anymore, but not quite amphibian either. But something else that bridges the gap in evolution.

I feel like there use to be secret bipedal apes long before the dinosaurs and as soon as fish stepped out of water, they all died. Then these fish evolved in countless ways to eventually become the hip new bipedal apes of today who are now spending their time looking at fish stepping out of water.
