In 1539, the Spanish began building a fort in San Juan to fend off attacks from European rivals. The fort was known as "El Morro," and as the attacks on it multiplied, so too did its defenses.

@@radrook4481 There's has been a nacionalist urge for independence since 1809. I think Puerto Rico deserves to be independent after being a colony for over half a millennia.

I've been there! It's huge! Quite an incredible fort. The walls are like 15ft thick!

It's amazing seeing visitors coming down here from all over the world to enjoy the history which involves these forts and the Old City of San Juan ☝🏾 Juan Ponce de León is buried here, he who gave Florida it's name ☝🏾 Should Puerto Rico ever become a State San Juan would take the title as the oldest city in the US☝🏾

My sister use to work for Defensa Civil at Fuerte de san Cristóbal in the early 90 so she had acces to every single tunnel that went from San Cristobal to El Morro plus she had the night shift and we went everywhere in does tunnels for hours and inside El morro closed tunnels..

Actually there were three forts. Because today called Palacio de Santa Catalina, it was first a fort with walls to defend San Juan. Hence it is also called Fortress. On the fort they built the palace.

Additionally, they forgot to add that Old An Juan was fully fortified all around until the US took over PR after the Spanish - American war, where they ordered to take down more than half of the walls. The fort, isn't even 'just' known as El Morro; it's full name is Castillo San Felipe del Morro.

I born in Washington DC, but live in mayaguez PR, proud from my place of birth. But much prouder knows of my blood. Love US, but very disappointed of they way thing goes since mr trump... like i always believe the time to become a state is gone, and the time to be a Republic is slim know, the commonwealth is pretty much dead. And is going to take many years to get in our feet, so when that moment come. Puerto Rican need to realize that is time people is time to decide what we whan we can't be girl friend or boyfriend for ever either we married or see you later. No more commonwealth is was the right choice back then, not anymore. And for the government of Puerto Rico is time to tight those pants and got balls and explain everything the goods and the bads of your proposal, Estate, Independent. Stop scaring people talking only about welfare, foods tamp, and benefits this is just part of a big picture there other thing that need to be explain. And the same for the independent party..once both party explain in black &white and straight to the point then and only then thake the people to vote....yes all this has to come many years ahead. Puerto Rico is like a person who is in the intensive care unite not only he lost his job(industries leaving) about a week ago, his wife left him, (no one whant to realy help )and just yesterday he got hit by a car( hurricane maria). O and i just almost forgot he was told by the hospital that if he don't pay he will be kick out ( la junta).see we are pritty much jodidos. But always pa,lante.

There’s many sources on the web with very concise information on what the political stance of each political party is in PR. It isn’t up to the government to keep us informed. In fact the less we know and the more distracted we stay the more they benefit in the long run.

The castle was built in the 1500s hundreds by the Spanish Black Hills Indians not the Dominicans sorry whoever did this video doesn't know about history
