@ejdiii333

Exactly, you got that right, but it seems stores only open in places where there is already a glut of similar stores. And then they wonder why they can't do well? most franchises will not open in towns under 3,000. And there are tens of thousand of towns that such a store would do just fine in, but most corporations never deal in reality, and will continue to flood markets and do poor business it seems.

I think every town has at least one Starbucks or if not there is one on the interstate inside the Walmart super center just outside town. I swear they put something in their coffee to make people believe it is the best and only choice. Since starting to buy it directly from the store I have been unable to really enjoy other coffees without making it was strong and adding more creamer and sugar.

I live in Canada and grew up with Tim Hortons. Most Canadians will agree that the overall quality has suffered greatly in the last decade; and even more since Restaurant brands bought them. They are living on good will, and that wont last forever. This also explains why they struggle so much in the US. They simply don't have those decades of goodwill built up like they do here in Canada. There's no nostalgia factor for locations outside of Canada...unless it's in a location with a lot of Canadians. They used to bake doughnuts in-house, but now have everything shipped in...they changed their coffee blend a few years back, and not for the better. They used to be really good at coffee & doughnuts, and then the menu exploded with a bunch of low quality sandwiches, potato wedges, etc, and the company lost focus. Now it's just "meh" coffee and "meh" food.

The biggest difference is speed. Timmies in Canada may be a shadow of it's former self in terms of quality, but it's FAST. They have a dozen people working in an assembly line so as soon as you have finished paying, your drink and food is ready. All of the US timmies I've been to are painfully slow, they have 2 or 3 people working and nobody is in a hurry. I don't drink Tims coffee because it's good, I drink it because it's familiar and because it's the fastest drive through around. Take away the speed and I'm going to Starbucks or Dunkin

They are mostly filled with Boomers and Xers holding onto a bygone era and propping the failing brand up. 🤦‍♂️ Luckily Hamilton also has a healthy number of independent coffee shops and roasters with great coffee and baked goods. Donut Monster rocks as does Relay Coffee. 👌 Mulberry and Steeltown Garage are great as well.

We had a Tim Horton’s in Indianapolis earlier this year. They built it from the ground up and it was probably open for less than two weeks and then it was closed. It was so strange to see this newly built building and drive through empty. I’d never seen a business come and go so fast! I never even had a chance to try them but knew they had a few in Michigan. Ours news just said they left due to contract disagreements. A few months ago the building was made into a discount tire store. Interesting to see this story.

Timmies is a good mix of value, quality, and speed. At least in Canada every Timmies I've been through has beaten other chains on time. I can expect a full lineup to be handled in about 5 minutes while others may be close to 10. If you're a contractor this matters! Tim's quality has gone down but they are cheap and fast. I'd say they look worse now due to McD's quality going up by a significant amount over the last 10 years. McD used to be the worst fast food IMO and now they seem like one of the best.

Good vid, but the bit around 4:00 was a touch misleading as here in Canada, there are plenty of other choices as well. Our market is pretty saturated too, but Timmies has managed to adapt. Starbucks & McDonalds are doing extremely well here too. As are others...

I'm Canadian and would rather go cross the border to a Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme than to a Tim Horton's in my backyard. The donuts are simply better there since they make them onsite and Tim's get their donuts premade and frozen.

As a Canadian Tim hortons is overrated. It’s doing well because of saturation of the market in Canada, literally every 2-3 blocks there is a Tim Hortons store or in a gas station, definitely convenient but McDonalds guarantees consistent coffee all throughout. I might even add that a double double (2 sugar 2 cream for you Americans) from McDonalds is better than Timmies. Ultimately, Tim Hortons greatest strength is also its greatest downfall.
@littlemouse9586

That because McDonald's coffee is literally Tim's old coffee my dude. Tim's opted to get cheaper, worse quality provider of coffee beans and McDonald's was quick to pick up the provider Tim's decided to drop.
