The biggest update for lightroom would be HSL on the masking section , really would be insane !
@SignatureEdits
@SignatureEdits Жыл бұрын
I'd love to see that too! My hunch is we'll probably see that in the near future. But honestly, once you get your head around tone curves like this you can actually do a lot MORE with the color than you could with the HSL. HSL is more user friendly though :)

My method is to first realize that I’m not doing math. This is art! When I adjust the curve, I sort of deep focus, almost through the image (like those old computer generated images where you could find the hidden rocket). Then I adjust to my liking, using the slider nodes below the graph by wobbling them back and forth in one general direction.

I think the best way to think of it is that the derivative of the tone curve is contrast. That is, the steeper you make it in one area, the more contrast you're pulling from that range, and conversely, the flatter it is, the flatter the image will be through that range.

does the weird thing you mentioned that happens for single-subject photos only happen for some of the presets in the AI engine preset toolkit, or does it happen for all of the presets? also, do the presets only work for photos with a subject(s)? or will they work for landscape photos as well?

I love this video! Thank you! I’ve watched it over ten times now! I’ve lost count.. So after watching, I updated to the newest version so I could try out your tips. In your video, you toggled on/off sections such as the tone curve section. In the previous version I was just using, you could click on the “switch” and turn things on or off and see the change and difference. For example, you could add a vignette and get all your settings just right, but then you could click on that button in the top left corner of like tone curve, HSL, detail, effects, etc., it looked like a vertical rectangle with two different shaded squares inside, and that was the on/off switch. Click on, click off. But now when I try to do that, for example on a vignette, there is now an “eye” and it always remains on, but if you click on the eye it just toggles on/off real fast and so you have to click on the eye and hold the mouse’s button down for it to remain off until you release the button and then it goes back to on. Is that how it is for you? I can’t seem to change a setting in the develop module such as HSL, effects, color grading, etc. and then turn it completely off if I don’t want it on but retain the settings that I just made. It remains always on now, unless I click and hold down the button(eye). Is there a way to fix this without having to delete all the changes I made or revert back to normal or 0(zero)?
@levelonup0314
@levelonup0314 Жыл бұрын
Sooo.. I found a kinda “work-around” for that. With that panel open, if you hold down ALT (or option on Mac) the original switches will appear and you can turn them on or off.

I tried using sync where the masking was used but the masks did not find the subject, it actually kept the mask exactly where the original people were so it left shadows of the people from the original image the mask was on. Is that normal? Also when I reset the image I got an error notification saying light was now having trouble reading the raw image and the only way to fix this error message was to quit Lightroom and reopen
@SignatureEdits
@SignatureEdits Жыл бұрын
The error would be just random bad luck, unless it always happens on that image! Sometimes the ai mask cant find the subject in a photo, but it wouldnt normally paste the same mask unless that mask had been made with a brush. Sorry, hard to say without seeing it!

Something very similar to this but even more automated exists in Luminar 4 and Luminar AI since some years ago. I got those programs because of these AI editing capabilities and I was very happy with them. Now with this added to Lightroom, I wonder if they will allow it to be part of a standalone software because as a hobbyist, I am NOT paying a monthly subscription for this. If that is the case, I will stick to Luminar.

interesting! yes from what i hear from others using the alternatives, adobe is a bit late to the party in many ways :) BUT im glad they’re making up for lost time! You keep saying emulate. The word is simulate. Educate yourself.
@SignatureEdits
@SignatureEdits Жыл бұрын
Interesting thoughts! I looked it up to confirm... Emulate: "to strive to equal or excel. : imitate. especially : to imitate by means of an emulator. : to equal or approach equality with." - this can be done within software which might emulate something in real life... For example, an airplane cockpit in a video game. So... 1) Emulate = pretty much a synonym of simulate. 2) Technically, this is software emulating a real life scenario (Blue hour) so a person could potentially use this word and be more accurate than the word simulate. While simulate I agree might have been a slightly better choice, what I don't agree with is random people on the internet leaving unnecessary negative comments that suggest someone lack's education ;) Let's keep it positive my friend! Cheers
