Rollo has the best take on it. He says that whatever aspect of masculinity that doesn't serve a gynocentric social order is deemed toxic, while any aspect of masculinity that serves women like providing , protecting, and being parental invested , now those are OK traits of masculinity. It's bullshit, of course. All the aspects of masculinity that served men, such as being territorial, having authority over your home, your children, having strong boundaries over the relationship, now those are " abusive, controlling, toxic, or insecurities " .

While true, Rollo's definition isn't as complete as it could be. You see, no masculinity exists that serves a gynocentric order. Because if it serves that then it is not masculinity. Therefore toxic masculinity is just masculinity and the word 'toxic' is simply used for political emphasis.

I was on a live forum run by a "progressive" (read: lefty) political think tank, and the subject of toxic masculinity was raised. In October, the Australian federal government announced $3.5 million to fund a healthy masculinities project trial aimed at tackling negative gender stereotypes perpetuated by dangerous online influencers. Google: "Tackling ‘toxic masculinity’ in Australia: We can’t afford to get this wrong". I asked in the chat how they defined toxic masculinity, and a whole bunch of feminazis responded: anything that didn't fit their gynocentric social order agenda was toxic. It was suggested that Andrew Tate was what typified toxic masculinity. I protested politely in a similar way to Rich and Moff, but was immediately met with claims that I was offending the snowflakes with my attitude, and was booted off the forum by the organisers.

You answered your own question Rich. Masculinity is absolutely necessary, as you explained. Toxic masculinity is when masculinity is used for nefarious ends. Just because the Gillette commercial was wrong and stupid doesn’t mean toxic masculinity doesn’t exist.

Rich is spot, toxic masculinity doesn’t exist. Masculinity by definition is the state of being masculine. How we define the word masculine is what should be discussed more carefully. I believe the attitude towards masculinity has always been positive or at least benign. Of course now masculinity is being demonized bc it doesn’t serve that minority of neo facist feminists. But what we can say is bad behavior is just bad behavior not matter whose doing it. A man mistreating a woman is just bad behavior. I’ll make the argument that catcalling is not masculine but just bad behavior. As men we desire and lust for things. But showing self control and not doing it when you impulsively want to is masculine
