"Federal Reserve officials believe the economic outlook warrants another interest rate hike "soon" but signaled they would allow inflation to go modestly above their 2% target - indicating they're in no rush to raise rates more aggressively.
That was the takeaway from the minutes released Wednesday of the Federal Open Market Committee, which met May 1-2 to discuss the nation's interest rate policy.”

The sad part about the record high credit card debt America has is that _student loan_ debt is even higher, and you can't even file bankruptcy on it. It's so bizarre how we financially punish people for wanting a higher education or for getting sick.

The economic recessions/crashes have been created during Republican administrations since Nixon, yet they continually claim to be the party of fiscal responsibility. Their tax giveaways to the rich hurt the rest and the overall economy. It has been the Democrats who have rescued the economy and put laws in place to limit future collapses. Those same laws are gutted as soon as the Republicans get power back, setting up the next recession/collapse.

I used to be debt free, had savings and investments. Today, I am sinking in debt just to tread water. This is worse than the great Recession. I have been at the same job since 2003. I was paid $115 a day, gas was $1.30, rent was $950, and a mid sized car $16,000. Today I make $135, taxes increased 4 percent, rent is $1750 A month, a car is $28,500 and gas is $3.85. Fullerton, California. 2018. I have a Master's degree.

As a retiree with a lot of extra time, I went to see a group of famous economists talk about the economy today. I mean, why not? It’s very cold air conditioning, free coffee and lunch, and it’s a break from learning stuff that I am never going to use. All of these eggheads said about the same thing: The economy is still growing, unemployment is down again, wages, investment, and spending are all up, and the fed is not planning on raising interest rates any time soon because inflation has stayed below 2%, BUT the economy is in a maturing part of its cycle, meaning that industry and housing are slowing things down. Because of the nature of capitalism, the economy will adjust and adapt, it’s just time to lower risk to about 50% of what I had. When Trump took over, I moved everything into high yield bonds and the rest is history. I asked if Trumps tariffs would do anything and they said that foreign trade was only 5%-10% of our GDP, so no. What Anna was talking about was a year ago, maybe it was true back then but, you know... MAGA! 🇺🇸Trump 2020🇺🇸 😎

Bloomberg founder and former Mayor of New York Mike Bloomberg told Donald Trump to hire people more intelligent than himself after the businessman and reality TV star was elected US President. Mr Bloomberg was speaking in Dublin yesterday at the launch of a new €80m building at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), designed to provided advanced healthcare education. The Boston-born businessman (76) is one of the wealthiest people in the world and has embarked on a major philanthropic programme. "The only time I talked to Donald Trump after he got elected was he let it be known that he wanted to get a call from me, so I called him," Mr Bloomberg told an audience at RCSI yesterday. "He said what should he do and I said, 'Build a team. Hire the best people because you don't know anything about this job'." "He said, 'Yes, I do', and I said, 'No, you don't. You're somebody coming in from outside, but there are ways that you still can be effective if you get the right people. So go out and get the smartest people, get people who are smarter than you are. And he informed me that there was nobody that fit that bill." Trump is an ASS!

I just paid off my 20,000.00 dollar student loan on July 2018 borrowed in 2003 for a Bachelors degree at a California State University. I never did get a job in the area of study from that college. I ended up working sales type jobs starting in 2004. I already was suffering from knee joint deterioration from over use of steroids used in the 80's to fight Ulcerative Colitis. Both knee joints had to be replaced in 2009/10, and then my back developed a compression fracture that became progressively worse until 2012 where I was forced to retire from working. In 2017 my back is so bad that I can hardly get around. Today I am waiting for a Neurosurgeon to operate on my back. Maybe then I can start my life all over again. I am now 67 years old. Isn't life grand!

You are talking about crony capitalism not true capitalism. Crony capitalists prey on the weak minds of those who don't know finance as well as they should at all. Like When the Fed Res. Board always talks in riddles to Congress and they then do what ever FED RES demands ,we will always blame our leaders for every economic snafu.But Fed Res and World Bank, IMF and all their siblings are the criminal element in every crooked deal. Obama and his predecessor were not given options that would ease every American encumbered wallet because you and I are pushed to the margins as their chattel. The song This land is your land Come to mind because it's a parody. Evil Financiers. buy and sell the same acreage over and over. Pay your mortgage on time or be ruined and be damned. Am I jealous because I did not know how to work that scam for my own betterment ?? A little but I never craved Villainy as my path to financial success. A sound contingency plan is to finally hold these institutions leaders as criminally responsible for the economic ruin they so irreverently impose on us every few years. Stringing them up and hanging them high may finally purge their vocabulary of deceit from the American Lexicon

Hi Ellis, Well, if you ALREADY paid it off, then that was a while back, wasn't it. May I ask, what Degrees do you hold? You see, a lot of the kids today, because there are no jobs worth stopping their Academic Careers for, simply take out more loans and keep in the University System until they get as far as they can go. And THEN they try to find a Career. You know, the situation has only gotten worse over time. Yes, maybe you made the right decision about limiting your exposure to Student Loan Debt, but how is your present career going. These kids running around with PhD's will be hard to compete against. Yes, they will have to Work to the Grave because they will never be able to put away the first nickle for retirement, BUT until they die they will always have had the Best Credentials for their Careers. So, we are in a Situation where it is BAD to have a lot of Student Debt, and BAD to NOT have a lot of Student Debt. So, that is what we call a REAL Problem.

AUTOMATION will be the big killer... I've seen estimates that unemployment (which can be calculated under different models) will go from 4% to 20% by 2040 and theoretically 95% of jobs could at some point be done by a machine or smart software application... exceptions including jobs like spiritual leaders. DRIVERLESS VEHICLES alone will kill the taxi and goods transportation system jobs! Assembly line workers are slowly being pushed out. Cashiers? Jobs lost already to self-pay stations... Already there are plans to have GROCERY STORES utilize robots to stock goods. So robots will make the goods, deliver the goods, stock the goods and YOU will check those goods out yourself and pay with... what money?

@photonboy999
@photonboy999 6 жыл бұрын
BlunderCity, I can't begin to explain the complexities of Japan's economy in a short comment, but LOGIC dictates that eventually automation will take over. Even in Japan. Japan is simply well managed with strong exports. They are even automating to offset insufficient labor. I'm talking in general and more long term. It all boils down to businesses wanting to make money. If a TRUCK COMPANY has driverless vehicles that cost less to run, they can charge less thus get the business. It's as simple as that. GOVERNMENTS will have to step in to distribute wealth and do make-work projects so people are "employed" at some point. Heck, we're stepping into potential Socialism models here but that's reality.
@BlunderCity
@BlunderCity 6 жыл бұрын
Oh you could explain how all this works if you knew anything about it. You are not limited in the number of characters here. Let's take your example of the truck company. They get rid of their drivers and have driverless vehicles do the deliveries, lowering their costs and hence the price for consumers of trucking services. Those consumers in turn have more money to spend it on other things. That creates jobs. And this is what happens to all the countries that have introduced automation. You logic that "automation will take over" (and we're all fucked) is a static view of the world and this is where you are wrong. You are simply using simplistic logic and assume that the world will be the exact same except robots will be employed instead of humans. You are ignoring the dynamics of robotisation and how it likely to change the economy. The introduction of robots, or rather, the expansion of its presence in the workforce (they already exist everywhere in industry), will make the economy far more efficient than it is now leading to higher purchasing power for consumer, increased innovation, leasing to the creating of new jobs, and perhaps even lower working hours. And it's a given that work will be far less painful and safety will dramatically increase. Automation in factories is one of the big reasons why we have computers today and far more engineers than we ever had.

Capitalism is undermining and destroying itself. This economic model is being used to stagnate workers' wages and increase layoffs to incorporate more automation. Like you alluded to - who will pay for the goods companies produce when no one can earn money? Our economy focuses on short-term profits at the expense of long-term prosperity.

States, cities, and school districts have $6 trillion in unfunded pension liabilities. The striking teachers you supported so vigorously rang up $1.5 trillion of that debt load. And yet you want to give them a raise and let them ring up more debt for the economy to choke on. If you want to list all of the debt bubbles that will crash the economy, you can't leave out the pension bubble.

The Volvo CEO said about 370,000 jobs they create in USA. There is also a bigger number employed by BMW. If these jobs are lost there is a tragic consequence of the losses by the local suppliers, be it for parts for these companies, or the grocers supplying to the workers and finally they become ghost towns. This is what happened in UK when they shut down the coal mines.

But if they don’t increase interest rates, people will keep borrowing. Keeping low artificial interest rates 4 2 long is the problem. That’s what created this bubble. The longer they take 2 increase them the worse it’s going to be.

They didn't even bring up the tariffs, which are killing the farm economy. No big deal, you might think, only 1-2% of Americans are farmers. But the farm products we sell overseas makes up a huge amount of our national income. You cannot ruin the farm economy and not have it affect the rest of the economy. It happened in the 80's, it will happen again. We will be in another recession in a couple years.

Why is there a credit bubble in auto loans? They didn’t explain that. If they are equating subprime auto loans with the GFC - they seem to forget the default swaps and derivatives built on top of those debts that caused the bubble to pop.

One needs to understand the accounting gymnastics that the government is willing to do to get unemployment numbers so low. If you work 5 hours a week, your counted as fully employed now. My personal favorite, prison labor is now counted as full employment. Seeing as we incarcerate more people than any other nation, it makes sense that we counted them as fully employed.
