I think without Jude, the Benzema absence would have destroyed us. He just contributed in every area when he played. Even when he didn’t score he was running tirelessly all over the field and making major defensive contributions. He doesn’t have the razzle/dazzle of Vini. But without him we would not have won the league or the CL.

I think that after Real Madrid won the Champions League, you should be backing one of Jude Bellingham or Vinicius Junior to win the Ballon Dor depending on what happens at the EUROs or Copa America for their respective countries. They’ve both had excellent seasons where they’ve been part of a team that’s been successful and have been responsible for scoring goals in a team that for the most part of the season didn’t even play with a natural striker. We can all agree that it’s Vini or Bellingham’s Ballon Dor to lose if one of Brazil or England do well at the Copa America and EUROs. Next season, Kylian Mbappe is at Real Madrid and we know that he’s gonna stat pad easily score around 45-50 goals a season with his performances and trophies no matter how well the others on the team play, Mbappe will get the most attention meaning that he’ll always be the frontrunner for the Ballon Dor and he also plays in a strong national team as well since in almost every international tournament France are favorites to either win or get to the final and since he’s on a team that’s guaranteed to win a lot of trophies it plays a massive factor in the Ballon Dor race for him considering how strong France are. We have to remember that Mbappe is going to Real Madrid and acknowledge how star studded they already are and the fact that a lot of players on that team have massive PR too. From Erling Haaland’s perspective no matter how many goals he scores, him winning a Ballon Dor especially with Mbappe at Madrid it’ll be difficult because he had a chance to win it last season since he scored 50+ goals and won the treble, but didn’t due to Messi winning the World Cup and I think his inability to deliver in big games worrying performances the potential of Kevin De Bruyne leaving Manchester City in the next 12-18 months and his lack of success at international level with Norway unable to qualify for major tournaments, I don’t see how Haaland can win a Ballon Dor unless he changes his game and becomes a more complete player. Still Mbappe at Madrid as the face of football, I think he can win 3-4 Ballon Dors at best.

For many months, there was this feeling that Jude Bellingham is the likeliest player to win the Ballon Dor if Real Madrid wins the Champions League and it made sense. At the start of the season he was the most in form player in the world and people were seeing him as the best player in the world after getting off to a crazy start to his career at Real Madrid where he was scoring goals game in game out and everything he touched turned to goals. Even though he was a midfielder, Bellingham was at a rate where he could score 35+ goals. However, Real Madrid have just won the champions league and because of that Vinicius Junior has a better chance of winning the Ballon Dor than Bellingham. Overall he had a great season 24 goals and 11 assists in all competitions and while he was great in La Liga, as usual he took his game to another level in the champions league and whether it was against Bayern Munich Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund in the knockouts he got a G/A in every game including the final. There were moments in those games where he didn’t play well, but did enough to put his team over the finish line. The advantage that he has over others in the Ballon Dor race is not just him winning the Champions League he was their best player and he was very decisive in big games and part of being the best player in the world should be about your individual brilliance and your ability to deliver in important matches and that should be separated from how many trophies you win because over the years people have put too much emphasis on team achievements to be the sole metric in winning the Ballon Dor as a player can win this award due to them being part of a successful team even though they weren’t even the best player at their club. Vinicius Junior was part of a successful team where there were periods where he was the best player when they won the champions league. The Ballon Dor race isn’t over because the EUROs will decide who wins the award this year because Brazil’s team isn’t as strong as their other teams and what if they don’t have a good Copa America and Vini doesn’t play well as he’s never replicated his club form at international level as he has 3 goals for Brazil. If one of France England or even Germany wins the EUROs, one of Mbappe Kane Bellingham Foden or even Kroos will be seen as the favorite for the Ballon Dor and we have to remember that in these individual awards there’s a product of recency bias that’ll play a role within the voting.
