I like MW2's campaign a little more. Sure COD4 campaign created the cinematic formula, but MW2 perfected it. It also has some of the best music I ever heard for an FPS game.

Because there weren't microtransactions and jet packs.

2007-2008 were such great years for video games. That was when the XBOX 360 and the PlayStation 3 were finally hitting their stride. Modern Warfare, Bioshock, Halo 3, and GTA 4 came out within months of each other.....Man I miss high school.

This game was so revolutionary for its time and is still better than most fps games absolutely loved it

me playing COD4 when it came out: holy shit!! this is so much better than COD2,I wonder what COD would look like in ten years from now -10 years later- Kids spamming voice chat,shit gameplay,micro paying system taking over the game,uncessary futuristic setting that feels like the developers shove up our ass to say they change the series,guns look like toys,bas killstreaks and 3 million dislikes :)

Modern Warfare, World at War, Modern Warfare 2, And Black Ops 1. Those were the best call of duties ever. They were simple, and you could just play without asking what every little thing does. Not to mention the campaigns were fantastic.

When it comes to legit fun. Cod 4, MW2, and WaW are definitely the top 3 Cod games of all time.

Cod4 was my first cod experience, and I loved it. I did try out the earlier cods aswell, but cod4 will forever be my favorite.

My favourite dialogue exchange in the game is: Price “Gaz can’t you make it open any faster?” Gaz “negative sir, but you can try pulling it if it makes you feel better” Price “cheeky bastard”

You said CoD4 was a simpler time in this video. This is exactly true and ironic because I was a kid when I played this game and we all know being a kid means better and simpler times that we want to go back to. There's my nostalgic comment of the day.

You forgot to mention the nuke scene in the campaign. When I first experienced it, it was jaw dropping.

With so many COD fans having called for a return to 'boots on the ground' no jetpack/wallrunning, I'm thinking people want simplicity back. People got their fill of convoluted game play and are ready for a nice palate cleanser.

Definitely my favorite. I remember playing in online multiplayer for the first time and I felt like I was in an actual battlefield. I was so scared to die! I don't think the majority of gamers really care about their K/D anymore, considering the majority are 12 year olds. It used to be simple and you had to work with the guns and perks that were available at the time. It made it challenging. You had to figure out how to use those weapons and perks more effectively than your opponent. Now a days you can add so much crap to your guns that it really takes that aspect of survival of the fittest away.

I can answer your question with one word: PROMOD - PC!

2007-2009. Halo 3, Cod 4, Gears 2, Mass Effect 1. Those were the fucking days man.

The nuke scene I think is honestly not only one of the most iconic scenes in video games but in all of entertainment. I will never forget my first time playing the campaign and witnessing such a well done sequence that had me silent and stunned even minutes after it. Most movies can't even make me feel that way let alone a video game. Hats off to you COD4, you will forever be a legend.

When you said “you feel like your fighting for a purpose” this is extremely true in one mission where captain price asks what the enemy is doing to hq and they say exacting the villagers and price says “not for long they are” that really makes you feel like you aren’t playing a game it makes it feel like you are in the game fighting for those villagers lives idk just all around was a very good game

I know people give CoD shit, I do too, but the Modern Warfare Trilogy, is one of my favourite video game trilogies ever, it's just so good.

But where are the killer robots, double jumps, unrealistic weapons and being able to shoot freakin' laser beams in space?.. #Sarcasm

The multiplayer mode was geared towards PC, instead of consoles. So it had the element of strategy and the feeling of achievement (albeit less than for example BF and CS) instead of the arcade feel of today's COD's.

2007 was the year for FPS. Coming off Half Life 2's innovations in FPS storytelling (and the release of Episode 2 w/ the Orange Box), we got Portal, CoD4, and Bioshock in the same year.

I just replayed the CoD 4 campaign for the past week...it's like the 20th time I do it in the past 8 years...and man wasn't it astonishing...the nostalgia and heart beats...the goosebumps flowing. This game made my childhood

You wanna know why we don't feel that connection towards the characters in FPS levels anymore? What was the last FPS you can truly remember that started you off as a nameless grunt where you're shooting bottles off fence posts and helmets and such in a training mission? That's because the game starts you off as nothing, being brand new, and works your way up almost in an RPG way.

One of the last truly LAN games. You could play with friends at a freaking LAN party!!! Love it! I wish game studios would still keep this in bloody mind when making shooters!

I love everything about CoD4. I don't even mind the grenade spam since it feels more like a war zone. I can't wait for the remaster.

For me this will never be topped. Multi-player was the kind of frustrating where you immediately loaded up again because you were still having fun. Everybody had the same kill streaks, and the weapons would go through a meta, where suddenly everyone would switch from the P90, to the M16, to the M40A3, to the Druganov, to the MP5… etc. But they were constantly changing because the situational use was constantly changing. Which meant every gun had a use. Nowadays I often use less than half the weapons afforded to me because they don’t have actual situational use. I loved this game. Best maps, too.

my dad played it when I was 3. Now hes 50 i am 15 and im Playing the Remastered next gen version. I playit now for 5 years and I still play it every week. I just love it.

I loved COD and MW2 but the franchise has changed for the worse over the years. Not a case of rose tinted hind sight, it was actually a better gaming experience. I think Battlefield has gone in the right direction with their WW I scenario instead of the futuristic super jump bullshit.

I 100% percent agree with everything you said about this i just the remastered edition for Christmas I needed that game in my life again. It was the simplicity that made that game great.

you nailed it to a tee; the gunplay and movement. Admittedly you slide around but it feels so good to do jump boosts and to jump and strafe and turn on people in this game. As for the weapons they could all be made to be good used by the right players and your class didn't need attachments or perks so you could win gunfights, killstreals were simple and overall it actual felt like you achieved something unlocking stuff in the game and prestiging - and as you said the maps, nobody will ever hate shipment and for me broadcast and crash

1- sees a cod video 2- gets nostalgic 3- installs and starts playing 4- gets rekt 5-uninstalls 6- repeat 1-6 a few months later.

One of the reasons why I think the cod games around modern warfare were so good was because we don't have any damn exo suits and gingerbread suits...
