Curly’s lifestyle of living it up in the early 1940’s contributed to the gradual decline of his health. He suffered a series of minor strokes in early 1945. The effect these had on him was quite evident from the quality of his performances throughout 1945 and early 1946. He suffered a debilitating stroke in May of 1946 ending his career as a stooge. He remarried for the last time in 1947 having recovered somewhat from his stroke but was never able to return to the rigors of performing again. He and his wife had a baby in 1948. His health began to decline again and he died in 1952 only 48 years old.

Though Curly WAS the favorite it took all 3 to make it work. The result was that, in my opinion, they were and still are, the best comedic team ever. Their comedy is timeless. The proof being that even in 2023, their videos are everywhere on KZfaq, almost 100 years later. Thanx for uploading❤ 😤🤯🤪 ❤

Still my favorite set of brothers is the Howard brothers I wish mental health care was better back then it is kinda sad that men who brought so much joy to people from their own time and our time had it so rough

ANOTHER INACCURATE video! "Sometime in the early 1950's Curly was replaced by Shemp". No bud, it was in 1946 and Curly died in 1952.

Curly's lifestyle contributed to his decline. A major reason for Curly drinking as heavily as he did was how self conscious he was of his appearance with the shaved head. The drinking, the cigars and the overeating eventually led to his strokes including the one during filming of Halfwits Holiday that ended his time with the Stooges. As mentioned, Columbia Pictures head Harry Cohn was a tyrant who forced Curly to keep working despite his declining health. When Shemp replaced Curly it was as a favor to his brother Moe and expected to be temporary as Shemp had a successful solo career making short films. Curly didn't just film one cameo for the Stooges after his strokes though. He filmed two cameos. The second was a scene for Malice in the Palace that went unused because of how frail Curly appeared in it.

I think the newer stooges didn't hit as hard in the theater because the actors seemed like they were trying too hard.. whenever the boys were together it felt much more natural..

Simply because Curly chose to let his shaved head bother him enough to drink 🍻🍷 heavily like his boss, Ted Healy, and indulge in unhealthy eating. Those two bad habits that caused him to fall ill and suffered the stroke that ended his career. Harry Cohn's refusal to let Curly rest didn't help, plus the grueling shooting schedule and head bops he took from Moe.

Out of all the stooges, by far, Curly, soitny, was my favourite. Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.

Because he had a stroke..Shemp filled in until Shemp himself passed away..Curly did do a few episodes after he recovered somewhat but Shemp was the 3rd stooge. Moe and Larry used Joe Dorita until the 70s. They made a couple of forgettable movies. What's sad is Curley's likeness was used on merchandizing and he never received a dime.

Alot of people criticize the Stooges, but they are on TV more than any other comedians. No one else is even close.

Here's a gentle correction: Hypertension and "high blood pressure" is exactly the same thing. That's not two problems, it's only one. That's a medical description (hypertension) of a layman's phrase (high blood pressure), meaning the same thing.

Curly just flat out drank himself to death.
