Yes the babies are so adorable! Have you seen videos of Tiny as a baby? He would curl up into himself like you described, so little, so cute, but also very sad as he was left on his own a lot. He became an excellent forager at a very young age out of necessity, and he’s a big healthy lad now so everything turned out well. But he sure pulled at your heartstrings as a baby.

Makes sense...we judge low rank moms for not giving babies open milk bar access, but reality is less food intake means less milk production. We can’t understand how they cope in bottom of monkeys society hierarchy .

Sometimes I feel like I'd do anything to be there with them, other times I'm grateful that I'm not like when Gypsy bit Knotty and knocked him out of a tree or when Tina keep raiding her starving little baby's pouches. I don't know if I could have contained myself had I seen that in person! But the other thing is that Arroz' channel is pretty much the only real one aside from JW. But Arroz puts a ton of effort into observing and presenting and helping them in times of need. JW does a nice job to on a smaller scale. But all the "Monkey baby" channels where they take them in as pets and who re them out for youtube money, mostly form Cambodia and Vietnam, aren't worth the bandwidth they waste and the lives of the monkeys they destroy. I don’t see other low rank moms neglectful or abusive to their babies like gypsy, but as torturous to reject her babies but always nearby is more confusing and painful , babies are by nature, aside from milk.....starved for comfort pacifier no matter how much they’d get attack , negative attention is better than none. It’s probably the way gypsy learned from her mother , besides cruel plucking habits....I’ve learned in life, sometimes parents can’t give you emotionally what they don’t have , instinctively.

I think all 4 of you who commented are more than likely right on the nose with your observations. I know in times when humans are pressed for money to feed their "young" they will go to all kinds of extremes to feed their kids. Then there are some who don't give a crap and do all kinds of horrible things while ignoring their starving kids. We are not all that different, but humans should know better!

Being new to the channel I have a lot of questions. Giving birth to girls improve the ranking of the mum? Is it because girls stay in the troop? Then what happens if a high ranking has only boys, or no babies at all? Do they go down in rank?

I think she has trichotillomania, an obsession to pull hair. She pulls it from her kids, and there’s a female in another troop that has the same disorder but she plucks her own hair, and her obsession is worse than Gypsy’s. What I find interesting is that Gypsy has plucked far less this year when there’s been an abundance of food. It would seem that plucking is a stress response (or stress reliever?) for Gypsy. Life is hard when you’re the lowest ranked, socially outcast and always last to eat and if there’s not enough for everyone they go hungry. No doubt this is very stressful if they have a baby to feed as well.

Rank is hereditary , doesn't matter what gender you have. Doesn't matter how many babies you have. It stays the same

@@jesussegoviano2813 You are right. But some ranking is flexible. I have seen members move up, and go down, either by sucking up or by displaying the wrong attitude. An alpha may not go down in rank for having boys, but a middle ranking may.

Arroz is a great site to observe behaviors of these monkeys and he is very respectful to the individuals and the troops. There is also another person who video's troops in the nearby area. He's JW. He concentrates on the troops that frequent lower on the hill from where Arroz films. He's also good to follow. I wouldn't bother with the videographers who film in Cambodia. They seem cruel and manipulative of the monkeys. There have been instances of poisoning females to steal the babies. They have been a great disruption of troop dynamic and have definitely gotten monkeys killed. In the mobility of a females ranking I have seen instances where females go down in rank. Dolly (I think) went down in rank due to a long string of only boy babies. Nora's (troops alpha) sister, who was previously a high ranking female and a sort of pseudo alpha for her sister's troop when Nora was AWOL (her baby died and Nora disappeared for a time) has displayed a distinct lowering in troop rank. She keeps herself to the fringes and in the trees. I have seen that she gets run off when goodies are delivered by the feeders. Don't know what has happened to her to get this treatment. I haven't seen instances of females rising in rank. Thou I imagine it is possible based on the opposite of the reasons of females being reduced in rank I'm wondering if there is also a possibility of rank changes due to an Alpha male getting ousted and the females who are very close to him experiencing a lowering in rank as a result. A female who is not birthing babies still has value to the troop and not necessarily to lose rank. She can defend the troop. She can babysit babies. I've seen that when a female gets into extreme old age she will lose weight. I imagine that could be a side effect of old age and decreased appetite. It could be that she has less access to food due to a rank decrease and she gets chased off from the goodies. Sorry for the diatribe but I like to respond to and encourage persons who are inquisitive of the macaques.

Shes just trying to shut him up all he does is scream and that can get him physically hurt. Someone will shut that trap of his for him and it will be in the form of a nice hard and possibly fatal bite. He's just more manipulative then his brothers were. Hes learned that if he does it enough she will give into his demands just to keep him safe. He's just an entitled little shit and it won't continue this way for long.

Anyhow, it's just un-PC to shame Moms for using formula. I guess not every woman is able to nurse, so we can't really blame them for not being able to produce. Re. macaques, well, I feel like on this platform, monkey mums are shamed if they don't nurse and nurse. But again, it's all my very unprofessional (and unpopular) opinion.

Hey Kim, nobody really knows for sure how Kailey’s fingered were injured since we didn’t see it happen. At the time Arroz said Gypsy bit her which was his assumption, but a few months ago he mentioned we don’t know how her fingers were hurt. I think he realized people were taking his assumption as fact. There are so many mysteries, especially when babies go missing or we see them dead but we never really know for sure what happened.

Why did gypsy dislike Kailey so much??? Didn't she basically bite one of her little fingers right off? And when she was still pretty young and just a baby still....what was the reason for her hurting her own baby so badly....and more over not even having any empathy for the pain she caused her poor baby girl....????
