Even people who are normally very nice tend to be, from close up within relationships, rather difficult and complicated. This shouldn't surprise us. There's simply nothing harder than trying to live alongside another human for the long-term. We should dare to understand the ways in which love makes us a little monstrous...

I wanted to tell you that the translation of the video to spanish is wrong. It should be something like "por qué le hacemos daño a los que queremos" instead of "por qué el amor nos hace decir". With other videos I've also noticed this mistakes in the translation.

Hey, I need your help. I like your content, I'm french and I don't know how and why but the titles of your videos are automatically (?) translated in french. That translations are just SOOOOO BAD! A lot of them are just absurd. This one especially. If I re-translate that french title ("Pourquoi l'amour nous veut dire") in english it's something like "why love us wants tell". It's a nonsense. Can you do something about that ? Why don't you let the titles in english, it's an english spoken content...

If I'm aware of this, then it is mean of me to ask the man I love (the man I want the best for) to love me in return since he will suffer through my imperfect moments. On top of that, he will experience my awful self more often than if he were less close. (But, hopefully, this is only mildly problematic, especially if he and I learn to argue well - the topic of another video. And this is true for all loving relationships, not only romantic ones.)

@@Chatoyancify ah, yes. Thank you! I guess I didn't understand, because it's so obvious to me that when you are together, the good outweighs the bad. I often think people get mad at their partners about things they're afraid of finding in themselves. Not only because it makes them feel good to pretend they are not like that (and feel entitled to correct someone else for being messy/forgetful/lazy/not very smart/etc etc), but also because they feel their choice of partner (and their "subpar" qualities and personalities) reflect "badly" on themselves, and they are very afraid of other people's opinions.

To be sincere, I think this belief can be very unproductive in relationships. Not that it doesn't exist, some people are prone to fall constantly in projecting behaviors. But using this as a generalisation, will make us always see the worst intentions in our partners, even when it's not the case. Maybe they are pointing us a legitimate issue. Even if they do it in a unnecessarily harsh way.

@laela6289
@laela6289 5 жыл бұрын
(edit) Ok, the reality is that your test is really stupid, selfish and cowardice. And the truth is, you aren't testing your partner's loyalty or love, you're testing to see how much of your cruelty and abuse they can tolerate before you destroy them. The other side of your “test” is a person who is extremely hurt, and whose self-esteem has been completely devastated. Please do not measure another person’s love, by being as cruel, selfish and inconsiderate to them, ESPECIALLY if you aren’t on their side when they are in need. Love is about what you can give to another partner. It’s how you can act selflessly to another person to make them feel loved and happy and wanted. If your “love” always works from an angle of what the partner can do for you, and how much of your abuse they can tolerate, before cracking and having to leave to preserve their sanity, you aren’t capable or love or ready for it. You got issues and you need to work on them and stay as far away from any friendship or relationship as humanly possible. Go see a shrink and fix your head, or you’ll be ending up very alone, very fast.

I have always wondered why I am so mean to my sister, who is my best friend and has done everything with me since I was a baby. We have the same interests, have shared the same room and done everything together for 17 years, and I love her more than anyone in the world. But I find that I have little patience when it comes to her and even the little things like asking “How was your day?” sets me off. I know that I am a grumpy person, but I never act that way with my friends. I have tried to change, but it’s something within me and I can’t help it unless I put the effort. It is as if I do it unconsciously and after I just feel so bad. In a way, she is used to it, but she is such a good person, she doesn’t deserve to be treated this way. Perhaps this should be my New Years resolution: be nicer to my sister.

To love is to value. Only a rationally selfish man, a man of self-esteem, is capable of love - because he is the only man capable of holding firm, consistent, uncompromising, unbetrayed values. The man who does not value himself, cannot value anything or anyone. ~ Ayn Rand

I like this. I'm a woman so I'll just repeat this as a woman. To love is to value. Only a rationally selfish woman, a woman of self-esteem, is capable of love -- because she is the only woman capable of holding firm, consistent, uncompromising, unbetrayed values. The woman who does not value herself cannot value anything or anyone.

I've had a crush on this girl for 5 years and I finally ended up being with her a while ago. Me and her shared everything in commo. Sadly, we share the bad traits too apparently. Laziness, self-righteousness, easily annoyed. I work on my problems but she just doesn't, not in the slightest. That sad thing is I can understand why, on anti-depressant medication and having to take care of her 3 year oId brother all by herself while her mother works and no future in sight after dropping out. I care for this girl very deeply, it would make me sad if she continued with her have habits even if I wasn't with her. Maybe I should be honest and end it. I don't know how she would feel tho, I'll try to help her while I still can tho.

I am sad that this person has never had friends with the “capacity to do much damage”. My friends have been a constant source of comfort and support for me through the years. I definitely love them. Different kind of love yeah, but without them I would be miserable. But I guess it still stands I often fight with them, my partner, and my parents for seemingly trivial things.

Before I would have answered this question by saying that we know that they aren't going anywhere or that we're too comfortable. After watching this video I can see other aspects like the anxiety that this is how you will spend the rest of your life and most people don't consider their own short comings.

It's helpful to change the prescribed meaning to your current situation. You say she hates you. Could there be another explaination for her behaviour. Maybe she's just upset. Maybe she needs time to cool down. Girls don't give up so easily on people they love. You seem lovable to me. Why think so low of yourself😉
