It's a must to heat and sound proof. Without this the 76 is noisey, wind noise is terrible and the floor gets hot in warmer Northern climates. Apart from that, I adore my 76. 😊

I hesitated buying a 76 series Landcruiser for years, but finally bought a 2020 model brand new, before I got too old to enjoy its capabilities on outback adventures. I instantly fell in love with it. It was a dream come true. I wish I got one earlier, but better late than never:) It’s perfect for our touring needs but if you’re after a lot of options, accessories and comfort it is not for you. I love the toughness and reliability. It’s great for towing a caravan, although, purely for towing, there are better options. It looks to me like you bought the perfect vehicle for your particular needs. Your excitement is very genuine. I feel that way every time I jump into ours. There is something addictive, timeless and special about Landcruisers. They are iconic. And older models are highly sought after. Congratulations! I just subscribed. Looking forward to watching the build.

@@TheLifestylePioneers mate.. what you bought is the best ''choice'', for aus.. because we have no choice.. only 4x4 truck id buy would be an oldish unimog. 6 cyl diesel, 1700 seriesish. if you considered a yank truck, new, then you must have 500k to blow.. a v8 jeep gladiator, would be nice, but, its gas & small, & has build problems.. toyota from factory, are lacking, they lost the plot back in the 80,s.. my s/duty, turns better than a 79 twin cab chunk.. for reliablity, requirements, 2 diffs, manual, no computer, coils if possible, leaf rear.. 6 cyl diesel, as they produce more torque than a v8..[ if built right]. which japs dont do..im looking at a 3.0 nissan, but ditch the motor for something decent, another 6 cyl. not jap.. not u.s. theres 1 truck, which wouldnt suit you, but, its a foton tunland. cummins 4 banger, dana diffs. there getting decent power from the cummins in u.s. cheap enough to buy just for the motor, which i considerd for another build.. then im back to computer bs..toyotas are like chevs.. buy it, then open your bank account.. get a winch cradle, with a winch,, & hitches around the toyota & caravan.. so you can pull backwards or sideways. & an anchore, there aint no trees in the desert.. for a highlift jack, id have chains or straps, with hooks, from the diffs to the chassis, so you dont have to lift 3 ft, to change a wheel..

All very rational except the ruling out petrol! The y62 is objectively better in all your categories than the 76 and for a similar budget. But these are decision of the heart when it comes down to it 😊

We don't tow a van anymore as the kids are grown now and we've gone full circle back to a Troopy. But for towing, 4wd ability, camp setup and family car duties a y62/200/300 is better than the 70 series. On towing and family duties there's really no comparison, especially for the kids in the back. And at this level they are all capable 4wds with the driver making more of a difference. Camp setup wise, well that's all in the fitout with the big wagons (maybe not the 300) being a better starting point as they are just bigger. But mate looking forward to the build, it's great seeing a well thought out plan coming together.
@scottcox8559
@scottcox8559 11 ай бұрын
@boc3499 you tell that to all the y62 owners that got stuck on the gibb recently. Fuel truck got delayed due to rain and because they don't hold as much petrol as diesel they ran out.
@boc3499
@boc3499 11 ай бұрын
@@scottcox8559 no worries mate but can you tell all the diesel guys who pick up bad fuel every single day to make sure and bring a spare fuel filter everywhere and have enough money in the kitty for a new set of injectors? I drive a diesel but I'd honestly prefer a petrol now for remote. It's available everywhere these days and at least I wouldn't have to worry about getting a bad tank.
@scottcox8559
@scottcox8559 11 ай бұрын
@@boc3499 so is bad fuel only a diesel problem? Pretty sure you get bad petrol aswell. That's why every boat is fitted with a water separation filter, I actually have one fitted on my truck aswell as a long range tank so you only fill up at major centres. The trucking industry uses diesel for a reason, my van weighs over 4T. I'd like to see your petrol y62 pull that at 20L per 100km.

Yes I would be curious on the Zone vs the Titanium as well. I just used the Zone app to build a 21ft 6 Sojourne Pioneer as I think you had. I did tick most of the options but it's weight came in at 3300kg empty bar 250kg for water in the tanks. There was no way even with some personal items I could keep it below 3500kg and Zone tends to suggest they are light weight. With most tow vehicles having a 3500 Max legal towing ability I would love to see the figures for your old Zone vs the new van

I went through a similar process myself late in 2020. I chose the 200 series in GXL form. The clinching reason for me was that I figured that by the time I did all the work to make it more comfortable it would end up costing just as much as modifying the 200 series to be better off-road. But hey, my wife and I are getting older and softer..😄. But you clearly had your heart set on a 76 series and I totally get that. You are spending a large chunk of money so you need to get something that you really want to own. Enjoy the adventure building up your dream rig. Chances are it will never be finished but that’s half the fun.

Imo you need to fix the rear end, track is too narrow, a jmac rear end will fix that and then there are those huge leaf spring packs, great for weight but no good for wheel travel, suggest a rear coil conversion, hope you factored the cost of these 2 things in.. Congrats on your new vehicle. I know how you feel with a basic Fourier. I have had my Iveco for seven years now and it puts a grin on my face every time I jump in. The only concern I have for you is the payload of 800kg from a bare bones vehicle. By the time you add the very necessary eg tow bar, bull bar a tank of diesel passengers and the 350kg caravan tow ball down load you would be over weight. Even with a gvm upgrade I font think you can change the GCM? Unless you plan on doing one of those dodgy QLD engineering mods. I will look forward to seeing how you pull the rabbit out of the hat. Too bad you missed a big opportunity! F150 will not be reliable enough for remote touring and its not suited for tight tracks. So fails the 4wd requirement. Also fails the family car test, too big and awkward to take anywhere. Even towing and payload, where it should really shine you still have to go and get a suspension upgrade.

Like you said only 70 series owner understand 70 series cruiser. Other previous 70series owners have moved along these days after realising their shortcomings. I do wonder why when you we’re comparing cars you considered a higher spec 200s and not the vinyl floor stripped out GX model which would be more comparable with the 76 including in price. The comfort level as the kids grow will be a test of the vehicle more than any thing else. I too went through a similar process in recent times and concluded that a GX 200 cruiser wagon was the answer but due to production stopping, I went with the 300s in the GX spec as it equally fitted the roll perfectly. As a stripped out vinyl floor 5 seat wagon it has a reasonable 760kg pay load and a good range of GVM upgrades on the market if weight was an issue. In the end I am extremely impressed with the vehicle as no doubt you will be with your choice. Just remember you can buy arm rests for the 76s if you find your arm resting on the door uncomfortable, oh and there are some good auto conversions on the market. Enjoy😀

Thanks Russell. I have to be honest, I didn't consider them seriously. For what we wanted, the payload was too limited. In the end, we've decided to do an upgrade to the 76 anyway but we didn't need to for GVM, it has over 1300kg payload from the factory.
@russellmartin6140
@russellmartin6140 10 ай бұрын
@@TheLifestylePioneers Are you sure of that payload as the Toyota specs has the car (GXL) empty kerb weight around 2275kg with a GVM of 3060kg which only leaves 785kg load carrying capacity and a 6560kg GCM allowing the realistic 3500kg towing.

@@TheLifestylePioneers that is a good upgrade for 2023. I assume the GCM is also increased. @johnjackman7622 you literally confirmed what I said though. It doesn't void your warranty, the bloke in the video you referenced just couldn't be bothered fighting it lol. Ask me how I know.. I went through it with a 2016 ford ranger, GVM/GCM upgrade, after market intercooler, Safari ARMAX ECU upgrade. Ford wouldn't warrant engine failure due to my mods, I pushed back and not only got a brand new engine installed. I then made a formal complaint to fords head office, and from I can assume was purely for PR reason, they took my 2016 PX2 ranger with the brand new engine back, and gave me a brand spanking new 2019 PX3 ranger. Your argument is so unbelievably invalid, you literally said yourself they can't do it, but they will try... ofcourse they will, who wouldn't lol. Doesn't mean you have to roll over and take it.

OMG, what is it with these70 series LC. I will say it from the start, the 76 is the best of the 70 series range, I just don't get the 79 LC, but what do I know. I did laugh a bit when you said, I really didn't like the interior of the y62, I agree it's a little dated, but you went for a 76, well, talk about a dated interior, need to change just about anything to make it functional, but could never make it look good, but that's through my eyes, yours will be totally different. My main gripes with these landcruisers is the price you need to pay for all this old school, shouldn't be this high when Toyota really had spent a dollar on R & D. The other is the small fortune you need to spend on fixing these design faults, another is the 5 speed manual trans, for towing and soft sand 4W driving, just not up to the task. As it is now, try towing your large van, no power, the brakes are next to useless and as you found out in the first few seconds, the turning circle is just pathetic.. But all this may change after you complete your build, will be watching to see how it finishes up, enjoy doing your build.

@Renegade040 Firstly, can I say thank you. This is precisely the response I hoped for from people who disagree with our decision. Respectful differences of opinion are what I thrive on, and it seems pretty rare these days, especially on the internet. While I agree with some of your gripes about the LC70s, funnily, these are the things many LC70 owners, me included, love about them. While I'm not a fan of the Y62 interiors, it's not that they're dated, it's just that they're, well, meh. I get the LC70 interior isn't a show pony, but that's one of the things I love about it. It's open to customisation like no other new 4WD on the market today. While it will never be beautiful, it will be rugged and functional (with a few carefully selected upgrades). I agree there's money to be spent to make the LC70 what we want and need, but it will still be much cheaper than other options we considered. It also allows us to put our personal touch on the vehicle, which isn't possible with other platforms. I'm glad to have you along for the journey and look forward to hearing more of your perspective.
