I looked at all of the mid priced machines and one thing that all of them lack (except for Legcy) is the ability to clamp vertically for cutting joinery. The legacy uses R&P and I didn't want that. So, I built my own machine with a joinery cutting area, all ball screws, servos, and 5HP spindle for $4K. It was a task, but I'm so glad I didn't spend the money on a commercial machine! I gave up some cutting speed, but I'm OK cutting at 250IPM, fast enough for me.

Great choice. We just got our Pro510 a couple weeks ago and she is a beast. I ran a layered 3D carve project the day after we finished the setup and it was a thing of beauty. Next on the list is a type-1 pvc project that we could have never done on our old machine. Have fun.

Thanks for the look at the new Shop Sabre table. We are looking at getting the 510. How noisy are the 4 vacuum pumps? We are in a single phase shop and really don't like the cost of the phase converter.
@WilliamDouglasCo
@WilliamDouglasCo 4 жыл бұрын
Drifter Trailers I’m crammed in my single car garage with barely any room to walk around. Also single phase. They have a lot of options for the vacuum pumps but I went with the F4. They are.. kind of loud but not as bad as I was expecting. When I close the garage and stand outside it sounds like someone is in there vacuuming. The router bits are louder when cutting hardwood. I just wear noise cancelling headphones and rock n roll 🤘🏻 no regrets buying mine. For the price bracket I was in there is nothing better. If I wanting to drop $80k I might have looked into something els. This one had some really important options on it that the competition just didn’t have. I touched on those in this video. My old machine didn’t have those and the difference is clear.

Casey Wollin no way! Are you serious?! That’s badass man, I love my machine! I made a few stupid mistakes on my order that I’ll have to update at some point. First one being.. I didn’t get whatever piece was needed to control my spindle rpms on the ShopSabre interface. I have to manually do it on the VFD. I have to send in the board or something now and be without a cnc for a few weeks to get that done.

I'm looking at buying a shopsabre. I'm starting to do research. So many options. The reason I'm looking at shopsabre as an option is because a cabinet maker I know who has helped me a lot has one and it is what he recommends. So I saw the video and you mentioned a few things like ball bearing and servo drives etc. What was your 2nd option? What made you choose this machine/company (besides what you said on the video)?
@WilliamDouglasCo

My other option I was considering was the freedom patriot. It’s a badass machine but I went with the shopsabre because the specs were similar and it was a few thousand dollars less.

You’ll want to rent a forklift to get it out of the shipping truck. Not too bad in cost. Set it on some vehicle skates that typically go under car tires to make them easily movable. Roll it into place and use a car jack to lift it up and pull the skates out.

@WilliamDouglasCo

You can route the vacuum pipe anywhere and put the pump somewhere els if need be. The sizes very. Figure out which pump system you want to go with and have them give you the spec sheet for it. They have multiple options
@toro6692

Good morning say I have a one man shop and I’m ready for my first cnc. The 408 looks like the perfect Fit. I’m ordering it by the end of the month, do to some special they have. Your thoughts so far on yours? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
@WilliamDouglasCo
@WilliamDouglasCo 4 жыл бұрын
David Langenberger one option that I wish I got was an upgrade to the control board that allows the computer to control the spindle speed. I was surprised that I have to manually set my spindle speed on my vfd before each job and when I asked them about it they said I declined that option. I wish they did a better job explaining what it was because it was only a $250 upgrade.
@davidlangenberger8211
@davidlangenberger8211 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for getting back to me. What vacuum pump did you get ? I was thinking the F-4 Also the spindle motor I’m upgrading to the 10hp with the tool changer. Shop space is Limited for me and they say in the specs that the overall length is like 135” how much room do I really need with the pump? Thanks David
@WilliamDouglasCo
@WilliamDouglasCo 4 жыл бұрын
David Langenberger I have the F4 and am pretty happy with it. I didn’t get the tool change because I don’t have the power it requires at my house. The vacuum unit attaches at the end of the cnc which takes up a large footprint. You could buy extra pipe from a local hardware store and find somewhere els to put the vacuum if you needed to.

For sure. Real feedback is hard to come by. The machine is holding up great. After using it for a while my only regrets are that I didn’t vet more features. I bought for now instead of buying for the future and though you CAN upgrade, it’s a lot more expensive to do after the fact.
