Why we can't finish Anything.

If we know art is a volume game, why does the last 2% of a project take 95% of our time? Fear of calling something finished. If something is finished, it implies it is the best we could do. A direct measure of us as a maker - as a creator - a person. It is easier to have a bunch of unfinished projects that are "almost finished". "Look at all my potential! Not my execution." Move onto the next idea that we don't finish.
Finishing work shows the world that WE are the work in progress.

Fantastic take. Both pieces are beautiful, but my eye loves the black on the edges. In the right space, to another eye, the first piece is perfect. I have that book from years ago. I had forgotten about it. Just now exploring this new art form and trying to figure out what I'm supposed to make. Thank you. Thank you for sharing the vulnerable part.

It is a tough book as she makes you work - however, it is extremely effective.

you work with a laser as well, hard to not seek perfection and carry through with the detail. And the difference between clean finish and superb detail becomes more clear.

I have a laser business and I am struggling so hard with paint on the edges. Hang in there

We pre-painted everything before cutting. That tends to work better

@@Philip-Roberts nice. I had tried that but the mask left a reside. I think I need to try a different brand. I would love to chat more sometime if you’re interested

A few years into my laser engraving journey with entry level lasers.Hi Philip how do you get the edges black do you paint before cutting or after with a brush.

The black edges are just from burning through with the laser.

I was just wondering is this your original work? I've seen this being sold elsewhere that's why I'm asking

This is my original work but people have spent a significant amount of time in order to copy my work 🙁. I would love to know where you have seen it so I can check it out? Thanks for letting me know honestly.

I think the word perfect is misused a lot. In this context, you mean 'meets and acceptable level of quality', but that doesn't have the right ring to it for expressing your frustration.

wabi-sabi. i think most creatives and artists struggle with this same exact thing, but as easy as it is to say embrace imperfection, i think this striving also pushes our art at the same time.
