Why White Rappers Can't Co-Exist In Hip Hop

Since they first entered the game, white rappers have always had to deal with their fair share of adversity and animosity from all sections of the hip-hop world. Suddenly the minority for the first time in their lives, caucasian rappers find themselves often held to impossible standards by some fans who’ll never accept them, while on other occasions, their own attempts to make amends for succeeding in the game often prevent them from being taken seriously for enough time for them to truly gain their foothold and carve out a legacy.
With all of these potential landmines to dodge to obtain a successful career, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the last thing white rappers would want to engage in is beef with the only people who can truly understand the trials and tribulations of the industry from their perspective. But, historically, unity has been in short supply.

Man you can really draw parallels between Eminem’s treatment of white rappers with Nicky’s treatment of female rappers. Both basically beefed with most of the old and new kinds of the rappers they are. Only Nicky just comes out a lot more bitter, whereas most of the time it feels like Eminem is forced to diss the wacker white rappers to differentiate himself from them

There is no parallel between the two. Eminem didn’t diss white rappers. He diss white rappers who DISSED HIM. There were a lot of white rappers he gave props to and even worked with and promote. Nicki on the other hand attaches herself to who is relevant at the moment and discard of them by starting a beef when she starts to feel threatened. Eminem doesn’t do this.

On without me Em said that he was basically elvis presley in hip hop in the sense that Rock and roll was black music then Elvis came and opened the door for the Beatles. The stones and a bunch of white artists that dominated Eminem did the same thing. He wasn't the first white rapper not by a long shot but he was the first one to open the door to the masses to the point where every white rapper to this day gets compared to him ( which isn't fair for them because he's one of the greatest to ever do it so they can't even be great without people saying that they're not Em) The difference is that the white artists that came after elvis really had their own sound and became huge through that. Many white rappers are just trying to be the poor man eminem and the few that have their own lane don't get talked about ( Brother Ali or El-p comes to mind)

@Jawnwickk 10 ай бұрын
Ice was the white Mc Hammer. There was a period in the late 80's early 90's where the labels didn't know what to do with Hip Hop and was branding it in a more "pop" way. From that perspective, Ice lowkey was the man if That "Style" of "rap" became the norm and dominated the way labels wanted it too. It didn't.. Thats why guys like hammer and ice "fell off". The likes of Pac, Big, NWA, Wu Tang etc showed the labels that the culture wanted Hip Hop to be "street" and "Pure". It stayed that way until Kanye West. The 50 Cent/ Kanye sales "beef" highlighted a shift where the fans wanted less "street"/ gangster rap and more "pop" or conciousness.

Honestly the whole "everyone hates white rappers" thing is totally and completely overblown and always has been. There has literally always, like since the early 80s, been white MCs. MC Serch, the Beastie Boys, etc all the way up through the 90s and 2000s with beloved artists like Mac Miller and Paul Wall. only SOME white artists get disproportionate criticism, and its usually the ones who get so big they distract from all the other black artists. I think people really overstate how serious the problem is.
@OfficialChrissums
@OfficialChrissums 11 ай бұрын
Like Paul Wall is so thoroughly embraced by Hip-Hop no one even mentions him in the conversation of "white rappers". I forget hes white half the time because its just such a non-factor. Other artists, Em included to a degree, felt the need to draw attention to being white, instead of just focusing on making good hiphop music that stands alone.

" its usually the ones who get so big they distract from all the other black artists." This seems like a non-issue. There is only 3 white artists in rap that have the top 25 record sales which is Em, Malone and Bestie Boys. The rest of them are barely making it main stream, everyone else sitting on top is black. Most white rappers have to rely on cult followings and an underground fanbase. While their fans hype the shit out of them, most of them are not sitting at the top of the charts in any category. Cal Scrubby, Lil Windex, and NF are all very skilled rappers and for the most part, are ignored by the rap community. ICP has been around for decades and relies on a underground cult following of dedicated fans, but it's not like their music was ever being recognized in the greater rap culture as a whole. Most of them just do their own thing, embrace their fans, and do their best to ignore the hate they get.

Wich totally justified why em banned him from shady 45, and also mgk sent shots at em on a radio freestyle and on a song with tech n9ne, and because of that em felt the necessity to dissed him on not alike.

Always hated that argument. Hip Hop in and of itself has become an international art form that started out as party music in New York. Nowadays, every country has their own respective Hip Hop scene. There's a world outside of the US, even it it all started there. At the very beginning, all DJs did was loop drum breaks while an MC hyped up the crowd by speaking rhythmically over the beat. Over time, that style developed into what we know now as Rap. It's just as much the voice of the voiceless as it is party music / mainstream Pop. It's just how art develops. That aside, white people have always been part of Hip Hop, whether you like it or not as white people struggle just as much as anybody else who has to grow up in less than desirable circumstances. Take for example Rick Rubin who worked on many classic records / albums or The Alchemist, The Beastie Boys etc

I'd have to go back and try to find it now, but the best evidence of this I saw was actually of Black rappers discussing if Macklemore was OK, with one arguing he COULD rap but was in a different category, because Black people didn't really listen to him and he wasn't really a part of hip hop, making his music OK for what alt pop it was! I'm not sure exactly what alt pop is, but the reality is that there hasn't been just Black or White culture for a very, very, very long time!!! Jazz was the first unique contribution of something new the United States contributed to music that would reach global ears. However, it came in no small part from the fusion of different genres many "Creoles" had been playing in literally "mixed" company when Jim Crow laws suddenly stopped them from playing with White musicians as they once had. Without Liszt's antics on the piano shaping the classical music Creole pianists brought to the party, you don't get ragtime or jazz, but those are seen as Black music, not descendants of Lizst and Chopin. Yes, you should see the irony there. Race is an artificial concept actually created to justify the new slavery twist devised to produce a desperately needed colonial labor supply, with a "sub" form of human "naturally" inclined to being chattel also birthing replacement chattel to fit expanding needs in perpetuity, but Creole society stretching back to that time was by very definition a mix of Black and White! The mix applies to music, and it always will, because musicians grow up influenced by what they hear. Eminem is the bestselling rapper of all time. How is it he wouldn't be part of raising the next generation of rappers, Black and/or White?!? Snoop Dogg just did a tribute to Johnny Cash. Which "culture" gets ownership of that?!? Like the Jim Crow laws ultimately proved, it's pointless to try to divide when the reality they couldn't hide is that there can be domination but NEVER true separation!
